SOTY Breakdown?
« on: November 23, 2015, 08:54:23 PM »
Can anyone go through the nominees and list what each dude did during 2015?

My gut feeling is Ishod, but am hoping to see what the other guys did.

Thanks!

If I had to pick a top 5 most likely it would be Shane, CK1, Ishod, AVE, and Gilbert.

Personally I think AVE will get it.

I feel like Ishod, Gilbert, AVE, Joslin and Shane have the best chance considering the parts they've dropped. Still don't understand how or why some of the people were nominated when they didn't even release a full part this year.

Hoping for Ishod or AVE to take it though.

Am I the only one confused by Biebel being on the list? I love the dude but I can't think of anything he's done this year besides some tricks on instagram in his park.

luan part drops tonight on thrasher

personally i think rowan zorilla should get it. 2 covers this year for thrasher 1 for slam ( even thought it's a aussie mag ) and 1 for transworld ( doesn't  really count for SOTY ) and if ave can have one part and everyone is losing there shit then fuck it rowan should have the same hype too

For me this probably the craziest year to choose someone for SOTY.

AVE and Crocket had the best parts, and they aren't a fucking blockbuster

Shane goes part is insane, and there's a lot of hype on his new part

CK1 has one bullet, but i'm expecting a lot from this guy

Ishod was regular as fuck this year

Rowan Zorrilla part and covers are HUGE

Luan has good parts, but I think is not enough

I will go for AVE at the end, he's 36 and he deserve this more than anyone

Yeah I wonder how that list of contenders is made...

That would be interesting to cross check the sponsors of these dudes and the announcers who put the most $ in the mag.

Pedro Barros- "Propeller," ripped transition at mach speeds and prolly won a gang of contests i dunno

Elijah Berle- "Propeller," continued to demonstrate that he's one of the very best ATV kids in the game, skated to the best Circle Jerks song just for bonus points

Brandon Biebel- welcome to 2015. daily NBD's on Instagram, played landlord to a gang of A-listers at his clubhouse, set the world record for bench pressing bottle waitresses

Kevin Bradley- "Boys of Summer"/"Chronicles 3" upcoming, smoked dumb amounts of weed, back tailed the oakland courthouse ledge at ~137 mph super good, prolly could win off the strength of that alone

Gilbert Crockett- "Propeller"/"Salt Life," launched Quasi which by all appearances is an extremely dope and relevant board company, street skated in a stylish and creative fashion, got 30 news tattoos, was beloved of SLAP heads far and wide

Chima Ferguson- "Propeller"/"Through and Through," switch and fakie everything down and across and over everything, excellent at skateboarding but will have to settle for being nominated, will be wild posi and save Dustin Dollin from dying a minimum of three times at the SOTY afterparty

Greyson Fletcher- "In Perdition," turned pro for an increasingly tough to slander Element squad, one-foots and backside ollies that make 70s skate elders openly weep, benefited greatly from the single best filming effort of 2015, most likely to wear a tshirt repping an avowed white supremacist or national socialist splinter group

Jaws Homoki- "Push," managed to stay one step ahead of the reaper for another year, leap-of-faith level drops like it's some kind of hobby, prolly ruined at least one AYC trip blasting shitty music in the bus and for that we can all be thankful

Nyjah Huston- "OMFG," i'll let y'all take it from here...

Cyril Jackson- "Notorious Cyril Killer"/"Bad Luck," turned pro for Baker, late shuv'd black hubba i repeat late shuv'd black hubba, endured copious dirty looks and passive-aggressive remarks from the Boss and did not allow it to deter his weed consumption in any way shape or form

Jake Johnson- "GX1000"/"Trust"/i think "We Are Blood" maybe?, the people's champ, switch wallrides, unheard-of Thrasher cover, unheard-of consensus among core skate freaks as one of the absolute best, unheard-of human being in general

Chris Joslin- "True"/"12 Days in China"/"No Hope," skateboarding's version of an HP Lovecraft monster, a creeping, relentless enemy who will do every flip trick known to man down whatever the fuck he pleases in an utterly boring and style-less manner unless he is stopped but he can't be stopped one day he will kill us all

Cory Kennedy- "Chronicles 3" upcoming, got a pro model on the swoosh and miraculously did not retire on the spot, not a ton of coverage but is generally assumed to have went full the fuck off in the Nike vid, noted Hawaiian shirt enthusiast

Daniel Lutheran- "Propeller," turned in the feel-good part of the year, had the Toy Machine crew out to his house and everybody had a lovely time even Billy Marks, will bring his entire family to the SOTY party and everybody will have a lovely time even Billy Marks

Guy Mariano- "Boys of Summer," stayed flared for a minute there, broke 1994's heart and fled the crail compound for parts known and unknown, elevated fakie 5-0's to previously unknown heights, the only man to win multiple lifetime achievement awards

Luan Oliveira- "Push"/"Mic Check," speed freak, crushed ledges, crushed contests, quick feet and stupid pop, SOTY contender year in and year out for the foreseeable future

Shane O'Neill- "Shane Goes"/rumored awards-season Thrasher part, delivered prolly the best front-to-back part of his career, jumped ship off Skate Mental to the leviathan conglomerate known as Primitive for part-ownership and easier access to crucial software upgrades, switch double 360 flipped the Santa Monica triple set, switch kickflip backside nosebluntslide on the cover of Thrasher, switch i don't even fucking know anymore this dude is on some other shit

Ben Raybourn- "Push"/"Raybourn to Roll," 360s, 540s, lien to tails, properly stalled inverts, all on the tightest transition known to the bowl-skating world, with the craziest ability to roll away from sketchy landings and carry speed into the next wall

Carlos Ribeiro- "1947"/"Primitive Presents Carlos Ribeiro," card-carrying lieutenant in the ongoing Brazilian invasion, cutting-edge ledge combos and consistently progressive street skating, switch flip switch back noseblunt on a full-size picnic table as long as we're counting NBDs

Ronnie Sandoval- "Living Free"/"Our Life"/"Everybody's Clown," Pedro head word to Mike Watt and D Boon, Krooked's resident ATV killer, noted footplant and boneless one practitioner, 19 with the whole world in front of him so he's already a winner

Miles Silvas- "1947," this kid is FUCKED UP good at skateboarding, he's gonna be around for a long-ass time being ridiculously gnarly, he back noseblunted an 18-stair handrail what else do you want from me?

Anthony Van Engelen- "Propeller"/"Boys of Summer"/"FIGHT/FUCK," the betting favorite, FA co-conspirator, on a hideous and extensively documented tear, switch lines for days, switch crook fakie flip out on a picnic table, switch 50 on a triple-stacked bump to bar, extremely gnarly individual

Ishod Wair- "Sabotage 4"/"Push"/"Through and Through"/"The Most Push-up Dudes," footage-stacker extraordinaire, top gun of an absurdly stacked Real team, back smiths, front tails, kickflip 50s, i mean take your pick. the best skater in the known universe and SOTY until further notice but that's just one man's opinion

Kyle Walker- "Propeller"/"Through and Through," went pro on the Deluxe ticket, repped the Oklahoma City Thunder on his first graphic but for that he can be forgiven, locks into front 50s uncannily well and for excessive periods of time, front smith kickflip out over a sidewalk, impeccable trick selection, will be heard from again in these SOTY polls

Rowan Zorilla- "Propeller," Baker super-am, slightly kooked it during his big debut part by virtue of a prominently displayed Davy Crockett hat but overall came through with a fun and creative part, put it in front of him and he'll skate it, wallrides to big gaps, seems to generally be killing it at life

the field is large and the outcome is largely irrelevant but that's where WE come in. have at it, fellas...

Don't want to be that guy, but Biebel, Sandoval, and Cyril are listed, but not Tiago?
What the fuck?
We all know it's going to be between AVE, CK, Shane or Luan but at least talk about Tiago.

Was he covered in Thrasher magazine?

No matter what you think of him- Shane seems to be the odds on favorite in my head.
-2 parts
-a thrasher cover doing a switch flip backnoseblunt down a legit handrail
-Nollie back heeled wallenburg
-bigspin back tailed clipper for the win at the bust or bail contest
-Did that ugly switch flick and pray down the santa monica triple.

Phelps will notice all of this.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

Who is Cyril Jackson? Did they mean Cyrus Bennett? He has been having a pretty sick year, I'll vote for him. That's sick of Thrasher to back the young dudes, Cyrus has a mean kickflip!
