90s football complete
« on: November 27, 2015, 10:39:49 AM »
Finally getting around to building a complete based on the Program Skateboards Goat Skull football shape. It is obviously not going to be period authentic.

I figure Venture Highs are the closest to the original low Featherlights (it seems today's high trucks are still lower than pre-1992 standard height). Anyone have any knowledge of this? Maybe the lower profile of forged baseplates (high) will give it enough drop.

I've got a few of the Blind reissues that I bought for the same reason. I've got wide Ventures figuring they would come closest to the featherlights but I'm figuring the authentic feeling is gonna come from bearing cover wheels. I'm gonna grind down some old wheels just like we did back in the day.

I might have a set of featherlight at my toads house. (90's word for parents) you really need to find a six pack of Real small wheels.

I think the Real Small wheels were 53mm at their smallest. I'll probably get the new Spitfire Formula 4 49mm. Enjoi and OJ both make 42mm, but that was smaller than most skated, even when Toxic made 39mm wheels.

I will likely go with Venture lows, as the lower center of gravity would facilitate landing slow flip tricks in a sloppy pile.

They don't make Venture lows with a wide enough hanger to accommodate.

I think Spitfire has Formula Four's that are 49mm now. Not crazy small, but they would last awhile.

Was looking at those. I was also considering the Plan B Pat Duffy Reds reissue.

46mm Hook-Ups wheels.  That's about as 90's as you can get

101a and made in the USA

For trucks, consider going with Mini logo.  You could get the 8.38 or 8.75.  Both are 47.5mm high (exact same height as venture low's).  Plus they have great reviews

I haven't because I know they would be way too low for me.  my sloppy footwork doesn't go well with anything low haha

46mm sounds like the right size. 42s are too small (even for the '90s). The trucks have to be Ventures.

Have you checked ebay? I saw a barely used set of 8.25 width venture superlights from the 90's on there a few weeks ago. Maybe more will pop up. I would go that route as i can't stand the giant logos on the new ventures.

skating this, its a 9.2 and i love the shape. does anyone know of a similar shape maybe a little smaller? like around 8.5 and preferably generator (or wherever DLX presses their deck) but also open to PS Stix
would you rather read an abudabi post or have a screwdriver shoved up your ass?

The Program Goat Skull that I was considering is 8.875". Made by PS Stix.

You might like the Real Agah. Its about 8.6, short wheelbase (14.25") not quite a 90s football shape but rounded out, with a squareish tail.

yeah, you'll need 149s or 159s for this one. i'll probably use thunder 151s on it.
