I didn't want that article to end. The early 2000s was when I was first interested in skating, so I got a shit ton of nostalgia reading that.
By the way, whatever happened to shoe lace belts? I guess the high water/dickies fad of today killed that out. People started to buy pants that actually fit around their waist, kinda hard to pull that look when you have a belt that's constantly making your pants droop that you have to keep readjusting every twenty minutes, hah.
I remember there was a thread about shoe lace belts almost a decade ago where a ton of people were claiming they've been wearing one for years because of how easy to work they are, even before it became a trend, and that they will continue to wear one til the end of time. Right.
It got pretty lame towards the end when it became a fashion staple more than anything. Dudes were rocking shoe lace belts in their pants that weren't even tied because they wanted that long lace dangling look.

I still run a shoe lace from time to time, mainly when its hot and i don't want some belt buckle digging into my gut, Tom remillard seems to be the last pro out there doing this, all the expedition pants come with one as standard

Also the DC Avatar, influenced by Ryan Smith. I definitely did that a few times.

I never watched Bluetorch TV, though. Never heard that OPM song, either. I remember telling a younger kid who skated that Avril Lavigne was trying to cash in on skating with her song, and he just replied that she was hot. But the fact that Koston and Greco would skate together and Greco nicknamed Koston Sparkles was a gas. I tried wearing a Boulala-inspired leather jacket once while skating, it was just for the novelty. Wore a shoelace belt once as well, a cute girl remembered me because of it.

the shoelace belts part cracked me up. i definitely ran those and the studded belts depending on my mood. studded belt in the summer time was one of the most uncomfortable things though. take regular swamp ass and amp that up by 100.

most importantly, kids, if you dont know exactly what the blowjob video from kazaa is, definitely look that up right now. heather is the early 2000's koston of sucking dick. ive watched a lot of porn, and nobody is as good as she is.

and active erica is totally the poor mans leeann tweeden. leeann was such a babe.

Sometimes I still use a shoe lace as a belt, but for years i have evolved from it and started to use a cotton rope for most of the times, I only dig up the belt when I have to put on a suit. No one ever knows that I rock a rope around my waist, but the other day I had a doctors visit and you can see by the way the regular people glimpse on it that they think ''oh this poor young man doesn't even have the money get himself a decent belt''

but this just feels way better than belt and you have unlimited options for preferred tightness

That was more of the mid 00s transitioning into the late 00s hip skater look, at least that's how it was where I was at. Maybe the trend hit a bit later for us.
Brown cords, shoelace belt (preferably with excess shoe lace dangling as much as possible), beanie (extra points if it's neon orange) dangling on the back of the head, half cabs or some sort of half cab rip off shoe, and a flannel overshirt no matter how warm the weather was. I remember there were flannel apreesh threads where people would make excuses as to why they were wearing flannels when it was summer and hot out too.

The 1st ever Flip video at last comes out, making Arto my all time favorite skater.
McCrank and Koston killing demos together.
Es was the best brand (reissue some of that gold please! Accel is essential but not enough, need some K1, Creager and Arto)

15 years old in 2000, I miss the times.

Agreed, mid-late 00's for the cords era.  I had so many pairs of the Krew Spanky cords & Emerica cords those days but the later in the decade it got, the pants started to loosen up.  I think Fully Flared was around a changing time for that.

Loved the article.  Totally forgot about bluetorch!  I still remember thinking the PD logo was cool before even knowing what it was, around the time TIS came out.  A bunch of kids in a year older in middle school went to the premier and I remember them parading their tickets, showing them off.

Also funny enough, my friends in middle school were SUPER into Jamie Thomas and the bible, always super hyped on going to church.  They went to those weekly skatepark nights at the church parking lot, too.  Ironically enough, these are the same kids that ended up into drugs in high school, meanwhile I stayed more or less away from that stuff.  Ahhh, the feels of nostalgia!

I also forgot about ideepthroat Heather. But art bars on bluetorch was the best. I remember being blown away by Jon West skating to modest mouse.

Brown cords were actually a nightmare come to think of it. Skating in hot humid weather in fucking cords. What the fuck was I thinking? I totally looked like I was on Habitat though so it was all worth it.

Great article, definitely can relate. I remember being 12 and not being able to get skate video often because they were 20-30 bucks so anytime Bluetorch showed any kind of skating i would record it with my VHS player. I remember being stoked when i was able to record Art bars, the Jon west part with the modest mouse song was so sick and was the part i would re watch the most.

Speaking of Bluetorch, does anyone remember an episode that had a BMX guy self claiming himself as "The Gonz". I always though that was weird.

Kind of forgot about rollerbladers. My crew would always run into this Asian group of rollerbladers at different spots. They usually drove around in a Civic hatchback with a super loud exhaust. We'd hear them coming and immediately start bitching about how much wax they used.
