Manuals vs Nose Manuals
« on: April 30, 2016, 08:53:59 PM »
curious about this.

i've always been better at nose manuals.
seems like it's an either/or thing like goofy vs regular, or clockwise tricks versus counterclockwise (like being able to do bs 180s and switch fs 180s better than you can fs 180 or switch bs 180).

curb size is easier manual. something taller is easier on the nose.
my alter ego 'switch larry' only does regular switch manuals but riding backwards so it's like a nose manual in rewind.
it really makes my petcock leak when people skate switch off the tail [except that one joquim line in the aloha shirt, nice one guy. don't ever fuckin do it again!]
can't flip out but 180s and shoves are easier from nose wheelie whereas halfcab or flip in is easier to regular manual.

I've never had nose manuals well. I can barely hold them at all, and when I ollie into them it just looks like I don't know how to ride a skateboard. Lately when I skate I've been trying to hold them longer and longer though, so hopefully they start to feel more natural soon.

Switch manual is the hardest for me. I can generally manual/nose manual the same things with equal difficulty.

I've never really been too good at nose manuals ever. Hell, I can hold fakie manuals/switch nose manuals longer and with more ease than I can with nose manuals; I'm just bad at them. I love regular manuals though. OllIe to manual is one of my favorite tricks of all time. One of the funnest things in skating in my opinion is finding some weird manual pad and seeing if you can manual the whole thing. Really long pads, ones that zig zag or curve, uphill/downhill pads, you name it, it's all fun to me.

yeah, switch manuals are hardest for me as well.
id have to watch his parts again to double check, but im pretty sure every single manual clip of Brian Wenning he filmed is some kind of switch manual variation.

both.
but nosemanuals are easier for me, when it comes to a higher obstacle.

same. never had any luck doing tricks besides a standard ollie into nose manuals though.

i cant do either switch. even without ollieing, i probably cant switch manual or nose manual more than 3 feet.

Nose manuals are easier to balance I think, but normal manuals are so much easier to flip/turn in and out of for me.

Been trying kickflip nose manual for like a year and still can't do it.

Nah man, don't look at it like that. Just do stylish g-turns like Scott Oster and Hosoi used to do and was once a staple of street style skate contests in the 1980s to end their one minute run with finesse.

I can do both well ( thanks to a severely rolled ankle where all I could do was roll around for a while so I'd manual/nose manual on flat for hours ) but I can't switch or fakie manual for shit, I feel like I just started skating every time I try

I feel pretty confident at both thanks to these wise words from an older guy as a grom.
"NEVER practice manny tricks without a goal, always have a starting point and a finishing point."

for me it depends on the day. some days I can't even get into a regular manual, it just feels awkward for some reason, but I will nose manual whatever I'm skating pretty quickly and vica-versa. The best days are when they both work out. Can't switch/fakie manny really at all. shit is so frustrating.

manuals are easier

nose manuals are more fun; i can pop out better for some reason

switch manual - major contributing factor to razor tail

fakie manual - kinda but not really, i have commitment issues with that one

sw nosemannies come easy for me, even though i can't really sw ollie down or over things, but into sw nosemanuals they work
but i can't really sw manny anything longer than one or two meters.
i just can't control my board while in sw manny. the board rides me when in sw manny, i have to go where the board wants haha

My secret to nose manuals is keeping your head in line above your knee, which is in line above your ankle. You don't have to think about your back foot if you don't want to.

I'll try this....it sucks that part of my process is to under do it....then over do it...which is pretty much rolling my ankle.....

Good luck ollieing or nollieing out of either....can you guys do that?  I can barely Ollie out of a manual.....

I've just been getting them and nose slides lately after years of unknowingly being scared to commit. i was also placing my front foot at a bad angle and after adjusting said front foot and keeping it parallel with the board i find it easier to lock into nose mannys and k grinds.

just practice a shit load on painted curbs and never ollie higher than the ledge you're skating on, also watch you're fucking feet

Never was good at any of them. Even when I think I got my manuals down pretty good I go half a foot and touch the tail. I just need to practice more I guess.
