I was trying to figure that out too, he might have some insane homeowners insurance issues cuz of it, or even problems with neighbors, or something as simple as moving to a new house. That thing is pretty over the top, it could be that it just doesn't get used very much, and with him living in SoCal there is probably a park within a 10 mile ride with a good bowl.
