Who started FA?
« on: October 28, 2016, 09:18:15 AM »
May have been discussed tons of times, but feel free to enlight me.

It was started on 2006 by Dill and Ave? Both or just Dill? They started producing boards on 2013?

Dill started it as a clothing endeavor about 15 years ago.

Cool. So you know when AVE started as co-owner?

Dill started it as a brand to produce all-over print hoodies in stupid colours in the early 2000s. I remember him wearing FA stuff in Skate More and probably The Osbournes.

Around this time on Worshop it was pretty clear to invest on the whole FA concept. And here we are today with that brand/team.  ;)

Slappies:

Oh yeah I remember thinking those Skate More-era Fucking Awesome all-over print hoodies were the coolest at the time
Bad call on my part. Good thing I was a broke teenager at the time.

But yeah, as far as I know, it was a really small-run t-shirt and clothing company, starting in the early 2000s.
I think my first exposure to it was in old Epicly Later'd blog posts from around that time, and I wanted that shit so bad.

And then, like you were saying, they started a board brand in 2013 or whatever, and that was my first time hearing about AVE being involved really, but I could be wrong.

Writing this, it occurs to me how weird it is, that FA is a project that has been growing/building hype for over a decade, before becoming a skate company. There's probably some other examples of similar things, but I can't think of anything really. (JT hyping Zero as a clothing company, while on Toy?)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Skate Mental start off as some sort of blog post thing through Crailtap? I remember being aware of it before it was ever actually a board company. HUF is somewhat similar, starting as a shop/clothing thing before becoming a full on shoe company. They made those DIE HIPPIE SCUM shirts people were running for a while.

Yeah, I dunno about Skate Mental, but the Huf comparison is a good call.

If you have the time and patience to play the long game, it's a solid way to already have interest and demand in your company, as soon as it really launches.

Skate Mental was a t-shirt brand originally, and done through Crailtap.

HUF was a shoe shop clothing brand. It wasn't a full line and mostly just shirts that went with shoes drops that HUF did. A lot of it was just shirts, sweatshirts and hats (new eras) which almost every other shop did when the SB craze was huge. It is pretty crazy to see where they are now though considering things. Their catalog is huge every season and I swear I don't know who buys their shit.

while we're on the subject of general questions regarding FA: does anyone know who the artist was for that FA ad where there's a kid sniffing airplane glue all zoned out and there's like a wasteland-type scene in the background?  I saw it in a thrasher a pretty good while ago.

Doom Sayers kind of went with the clothing hype pre hardgoods thing. They still don't officially have a team but it sounds like this is what Omar's going for.

It's strangely difficult to find the FA website.

This is not it: www.fuckingawesome.com

It's pretty funny, though.

Wasn't there a Savier Australia tour that was called "skate mental"? I remember reading that in a Skateboarder mag a long time ago. Stefan was on that tour as well I think
