Dope, sounds like a Luke-centric film. But is he the last last, or just the last until Rey comes into her own?

Carrie RIP (rest in Prozac)
But I'd love to see Leia confront Kylo. Since they were probably saving that for ep 9, I'd like them to do a Leia stand alone and then have that actress portray Leia in 9.

Yes and she was supposed to play a huge role in the next episode. Sadly, we don't know what they're going to do with her. They aren't going to CGI her like Tarkin in Rogue One either. Only possibilities are killing her off in VIII which may require more shooting or using left over footage and killing her off in IX.

I'm sure there was probably another thread for this or something, but I saw it last night. Pretty damn good. Was a bit slow in the beginning to middle but the last half was really a thrill ride. Very visually stunning movie. A bit too much disney/marvel type humor thrown in though, the serious parts were the best.

SPOILERS

Interesting that Rey is just no one, unless Kylo is lying to her. Snoke being killed seemed too easy. Luke didn't really need to die but the astral projection was sweet. Leia floating was wack. Yoda was tight.

Huge Star Wars fan however this was probably the worst movie in the series. Yes the prequals had horried acting but at least the story moved forward. The entire Poe, Fin, Rose, Leia story line was maddeningly painful to watch and could have not even been included. It would have actually made the movie better. I think I am about to the point of giving up.

I've definitely been seeing mixed reviews about this one.

It seems like a lot of the really negative stuff is coming from alt-right types, mad about women and minorities being a part of the movie, but it also sounds like there's some legitimate criticisms of it.

I was actually looking forward to this one, because I like Rian Johnson (even though I've only seen the few episodes of Breaking Bad he directed, and Brick, which I really liked), so I'll probably wind up seeing it anyway.

Thought the movie was trash.  Hated with what they did with Luke and Snoke.  Finn and Rose's plot line was completely pointless. Script was terrible.  Plot was messy and all over the place.  Leia flying through the air was stupid.  Everything TFA set up for this movie was a complete waste.

Luke felt like Mark Hamill playing as himself instead of Luke.  The chucking of the lightsaber, the leaf bit with Rey, the brushing of the shoulder thing was all incredibly out of character.  They ruined such an iconic character and I will never forgive Disney or Johnson for that.

I agree with everything said so far, I left the theater wondering what the fuck was that? ...the most annoying thing is how Rain Jonson shit on every interesting plot point from the force awakens (snoke, knights of ren, kylo's training, Kylos darth vader obession, Rey's liniage). The one things abrams did well was set up this new movie to drive these plot points home. Johnson is an asshole or at best, an errand boy for disney.

SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet:

The Force Awakens wasn't even that bad!  I genuinely liked that movie and felt good walking out of the theater.  It may not have been what everyone wanted but at least it had a coherent story to it.  I thought it was a good way to spark the franchise again.
Rian didn't even give Snoke a chance to be the bad ass he was supposed to be.  He died in the most pathetic way imaginable and we never got a chance to know who the fuck he really was.  That force projection shit that Luke did was lame and then he just vanishes??  Why??  Terrible terrible writing.  I don't know how this movie got a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.  I'm actually glad Abrams is coming back to do Ep 9, maybe he can fix this mess somehow and get  it back on track.

I keep going through the whole movie in my head trying to figure out if I missed something. But that is not the case, I cannot even think of a single scene that made sense.

**********SPOLIERS**********

Reys parents are "no one"...garbage, what was the point of even having that as a plot line
Admiral Ackbars death was literally a throw away line
Poes mutiny and Fin and Roses mission had zero impact on anything that happened
Snoke just gets cut in fucking half...thats it? WTF
Yoda????seriously what was the fucking point
Vice Admiral Holdo again had nothing to do with anything introduced just to be killed, which is fine the character was hard to watch in the first place
Captain Phasma, what a fucking waste of a character
Luke milking some fucking creature
Speaking of creatures this had more unnecessary creatures than the prequals
Snoke was the cause of Rey and Kylos force connection even though they still were connected after his death?
Where the fuck are the Knights of Ren?

The more I type the more mad I get. Disney took away the entire EU and made it not cannon. Then introduce Thrawn in Rebels and we are supposed to be grateful? A Han Solo movie nobody has ever even asked for?

I loved TFA, and actually enjoyed Rogue One for what it was. I cannot get past what a load of garbage Last Jedi is.

Regarding Rey's parents, I'm glad that her parents weren't any of the main characters. I feel like it would cheapen her character, plus having every character related to each other would just be kinda boring. I think the fact that she's just some nobody coming from the middle of nowhere is cooler than another Skywalker spawn. People were speculating that she would be Obi Wan's kid, but that would contradict his character.

Some of the execution in this film leaves some to be desired, but thematically I really enjoyed it. I LOVE Kylo Ren's character, and I likewise enjoy what they did with Luke. They both hold conflicts of morality and they both have a troubled past that led both of them to tragedy. Kylo likens himself to Darth Vader who was such a cold and calculated evil, yet he himself is conflicted and unpredictable. On the other hand, Luke was trained by Obi-Wan and Yoda who are both very sage and methodical. But in a moment of weakness and brash judgement Luke failed as a Jedi Master and tragedy ensues for both he and Kylo. Luke is a very different person in this film than he was the original trilogy, and given the circumstance that makes sense. I appreciate when characters aren't so black and white which is why Luke and Kylo's backstory is probably my favorite theme of this film.

i was so glad when kylo said rey's parents were nobodies. i for sure thought he was gonna say some shit like "we're brother and sister", and that would've been soo fucking stupid. like how fucking small can this galaxy be if that were the case

I do not think it is a bad decision that her parents are nobody. I just do not understand why it was so much of a plot point if her parents are just Alcoholic Junkers or whatever. That could have been sorted out with one line and we could have moved on instead of almost 2 full movies of teasing it is something worth worrying about.

The more I read about people's opinions on Last Jedi, the more I realize how terrible it was.

It was great until Leia flew through space...I mean what the actual fuck was that? So much fucking cringe. At that point I was like "fuck it this movie can't get any cringier". Wrong. Incoming porgs. I though porgs would be fucking cool as shit. Wrong again. So annoying, cringey, unnecessary to the entire plot of the movie besides to sell a shit ton of toys and merchandise to kids. Total Disney fucking move.

Rose and Finn adventure was completely pointless, stupid and added more cringe (fathiers running through the casino with screaming aliens). DJ was pointless.

Snoke dying was so...unnecessary. WE WANT THE KNIGHTS OF REN!

Rey being a nobody is fine, but what's the point of teasing all the "my parents this my parents that". Waste of a plot line.

Luke dies, okay but we still better have his force ghost in IX.

Overall, 5/10. Thanks Rian for ruining plot lines, the movie, and the overall sequel trilogy.

Watched it with my drunk friend and he kept kicking the seat in front of him and saying 'Bitchhhhh' uncomfortably loud but that still wasn't as awful/regular as Leia flying through space.

This prick Rian Johnson need not touch another Star Wars movie, ever. Princess Leia flying around on an invisible broomstick like she was in the Quidditch Cup? Really bad CGI riding around on some animals backs, very prequel bullshit. And that 'can you hear me now' Verizon banter at the beginning? Trash. The funny haha bullshit needs to stop. Witty humor is fine, can you hear me now baloney is lame. This was a Transformers type of Star Wars film, all computer wow factor, very prequel.

But I left the theater with more questions than answers (ie "Lost")

I mentioned this to my wife as it happened. I thought it was a real "wink wink, nudge nudge" moment, and I loved it.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.
