How often do you re-grip your decks?
« on: February 18, 2017, 08:08:46 AM »
I used to think re-gripping your board was stupid (grip usually lasts as long as a deck right?). But this winter's been hell on my griptape, this krooked gonz board I have deserves some new grip.

Not since I was a kid. The razor tail has always come before the grip goes.

Once. Breathes nice life into an old deck. Doing it twice is a waste, you're praying a candle for a bad corpse. Unless you're really pressed for cash.

Never.

Right? I'm not poor. I should just hang up this deck when it gets too bad. That grip gum shit only does so much.

I hate regripping my board. I also hate throwing things away that are still working and I also suck at accidentally breaking my boards, so I usually regrip once or in some occasions twice. Got some really sandy spots and spots with some stuff between small gravel and sand in size and that shit kills your grip. And like you said Zimmer, grip gum only does so much. Gets most of the shit out for sure, but that shit has had time to wear the grip down also, so it's not really helping much with the grip.

I made the mistake of using my only 8.62 deck to try riding on dirt (with 70mm wheels). So My pushing spot got worn down soo bad.

Only once
I bought a board from an online shop and had them grip it for me. There was a comically large crease in it. My OCD wouldn't let that stay. The shop did make it right by sending me replacement sheet.

Once in winter, boards doesn't wear out that much indoors usually. Never on summer, unless it's brand new board and I've stepped on dog shit first day.

Usually once my grip is dust, its time for a new board.

I do occasionally if something sharp rips a chunk out of the grip tape and the board is still relatively new. If the board is near the end of its life cycle, it's not worth it. I like my grip tape completely blank and clean.

Yes! I think the rule is: Maybe one re-grip in the winter, other than that.. grip should always last as long as a deck.
