I got into an actual argument with my boss about the Pistols  being just an (edgy)boy band. All he had in his defense was "They were GNARLY". No they weren't. They're the Beatles of Punk Rock and fuck the Beatles. Too much hype.

INFLUENTIAL TO PUNK - Iggy Pop, MC5, New York Dolls, Patti Smith

SP's influence in expanding punk - showed any idiot could pick up instruments and make noise

SP's influence afterwards -  post-punk scene (factory records, joy division, et al) were the few who showed to their Manchester gig at least according to 24 hour party people

The Clash is more influential to punk  music than the Pistols. Also the Ramones, even Blondie. And I love Nevermind the Bollocks record a lot but at the end of the day they were in fact a gnarly boy band.

"Influence to punk"

Pablo you have a guitar? Get a drummer and vocs and you could be the next Misfit band. Your favorite punker is shaking his damn head at all this what is punk conversation. It's like none of you were teenagers.

so you had the members of joy division there, the buzzcocks, tony wilson from factory, and morrissey plus some others that went on to define a part of music. there was some morrissey interview where he claimed that they were influenced to make good music after the show because it was a stripped down and uncoordinated version of what the sex pistols would go on to be. they were marketed as cool and you were part of something if you listened to them. they were still a manufactured boy band
fuck you bama

My favorite punker is the master of disaster himself, nobody beats Duane Peters with that. Im working on the band dude; we call ourselves los Tramones but thats a joke you cant get at all. Around town the name is hilarious, everybody laughs with a smile when they ask if we have a name yet. We just play some basic songs we all know and try to have a good time, whoever wants to sing can sing. The word Tramador means different things but usually refers when someone is a fool. Like hes a tramador so the name is super fun. Los Tramones. I promise if we ever have a gig under that name Im going to make t-shirts. Same font and style.

To be honest play chords is a really cool habit, give it a try if you dont know how to play Should I stay or should I go on a real guitar by now you should. You can have the Misfits band. I also have a bass and is fun to play Nirvana songs for a while. You also need to try the ukelele if you can. Make noise on whatever you can make noise. I bought a violin a long time ago and all I can play is Twinkle twinkle little star but its fun; you know. Fun in some similar way to skateboarding.

Hey pals, any of you have a proper band ?! Theres a thread about that ?! Im really curious now !

He just gave you 4. Dead Boys/ Rocket from the Tombs too but I guess this is all pre-punk type stuff.
As for your original question though: CRASS, at least in my mind, are easily the most influential to punk as a movement although fashion punks will probably fight me to the death on that one?

LOL, I know it's your thing to think you are smarter than everyone else, but shut the fuck up.
[close]
This has nothing to do with being smarter than anybody. I honestly assumed everybody knew the story with the sex pistols, but simply put, they were a pre-fab band created and given a look ? by a guy named Malcolm McClaren, which is very un-punk, but is identical to how boy bands work.
[close]

I see your point Gip, and I know about Malcolm McClaren, but a band with history that involves murder, heroin & violence (among everything else) can hardly be labelled a "boy band"

I don't know about murder, but most boys bands are filled with multiple stories of drugs and/or violence.

The term skinhead and neo-nazi are being tossed around interchangeably - I know this has been touched on, but come on -

This kid shaved his head and is dressed like a punk. I had plenty of SHARP friends who dressed just like this - and if there was any racial altercation at shows, guess who showed up to back up any minorities being fucked with?

For being skaters 'open to all cultures' this is pretty embarrassing.

Don't get me wrong - I see where Manolo is coming from - but to me, (and I know this is an exaggerated example) that's like calling someone in a burka a terrorist - just because they're wearing something that often times falls inline with violent and extreme individuals, doesn't necessarily constitute its original intent or categorize everyone who wears one.

There was a dude that rocked the shaved head punk look at my local park, wasn't a skinhead or whatever. Cool dude, always generous and chill, but to be honest, I was always real sketched out to be seen with him, because he looked like a racist skinhead. Within the context of our larger cultural understanding of that look (think American History X or HBO's Skinheads USA: Soldiers of the Race War), regardless of his beliefs, Ben's look communicates racism. It's a fucking fact, otherwise there wouldn't be this thread. If it's debatably racist, then enough people believe its a racist look, Therefore the look unequivocally communicates such negative sentiments.
I’m a ghost that everyone can see.
