I was curious, about the origins, and originators of all the funky deck types that are hip today. Who did them first, and who was/is doing them best

The first metallic boards I remember seeing were from Seek.

Alien Workshop did all the embossed stuff first with that hexagram pattern. then FA made it popular, now all these other companies are doing it. I don't think anyone other than FA have done lenticular graphics. They're also doing the slick bottom inserts, rather than the entire surface of the board being slick.

I had this Popwar deck several years back that had foil on the lettering, that's the first time I remember seeing it.  Really wasn't that much on there though.

Had this Appleyard board - it was covered in metallic sparkles/glitter. I thought it was hilarious.

New Wave? I thought that worked a bit, for what it's worth.

Santa Cruz and SMA had foil decks in the mid 90's, Consolidated had a devil head graphic that was foil somewhere in that decade.

The all time winner has to be the World Colvin Black velvet deck though...

those new wave decks in the early millenium were sick. i was a grom at the time and was very into buying anything i thought would enhance my skating (tensors, cored wheels etc.). i think i had a toy machine new wave, those boards used to smell really good.

had a seek or two as well. the foil graphics were sick, but the graphics would flake off really easily.

I had the one on the far right and I remember the graphics flaking really easily too. A lot of people hate on Seek now but I thought it was sick back then. But to be fair, the Sect could have put out a company called Garbage and I would have thought it was cool.
Man the long board truck thing killed indy for me. I was willing to set aside the racism, but long boarding, gtfo... - DH
