I don't want to be the user: rob of the vegan shoe thread but after trying on the ryan lay's I don't know if I like them...
In other (terrible) news, my Silas 1's may have finally died :'(

Try those Soto's, you won't regret it. Won't break the bank either.

you read my mind (I just ordered them)! might chuck the Ryan lay's up on here for sale if anyone wants them?
don't get me wrong, I don't "hate" them but it's the middle of summer here in Japan and I put them on for 15 mins and was sweating up a storm just walking around in them. Also, I feel I'm comparing them to my Silas' which is just crazy because they're my holy grail of skate shoes

Bummer man. Maybe I should bolded the portion about having little ventilation in my review. Even out here in MA my feet are soaked.

Are they basically like a high-top of the regular jamieson 2's?, because those kinda suck...

all good mate, your review actually really helped me when buying them. I was aware about the little ventilation thang but they don't even have any holes in the faux suede. Honestly, if it was winter I probably wouldn't even care, it's just so fucking hot here at the moment and I can't imagine strapping them on to go for a roll.
Did your stretch around the toe area over time? length-wise they fit fine but they're a tad slim and I don't know if I could jam my foot in there after changing out the stock insole.

Are they basically like a high-top of the regular jamieson 2's?, because those kinda suck...
not sure... to me they feel like a hightop version of Leo's emerica laced model and I'm sure if I broke them in they'd feel a lot better  :-\ I think maybe I was in a mood too after having to hang up my Silas' which are just the ultimate skate shoe for me

For those who are interested, I don't really liked the Cons Crimson.
The material of the toecap is pretty much indestructible, but way too slippery, cannot flick a good flip.

Go back to Chucks.

sucks mate :-\ I saw them a while back and thought, "woah they look tuff!" but sometimes too much rubber isn't a good thing

Well aware that there are few people here who'd consider them legitimate skate shoes, but vans now have synthetic leather era's, old skools and sk8-his in their line, black/white and all white. Just thought you'd like to know.

what are they labelled as? or do we have to go on a witch hunt to find them? vans has always been weary of labeling anything but that black canvas old skool as vegan ever since Rowley jumped the shark (or in Rowley's case he probably shot it in the head)

Classic Tumble Era

or type, "synthetic leather era" in the search bar on vans.com

On the vans site there's a material filter, just choose synthetic

will check it out! I'm kinda of vans for a bit though I think, quality is all over the shop and they're not really trying in the vegan skate shoe dept. Will probably revert back to some Rowley 1's at the drop of a hat though just because they're so nostalgic to me...

Oh and the Vegan State Mercers are really nice, pretty cool how they put the little cow on the vegan colourway tags too

If you ask Nike/CONS/Adidas if their shit is made in sweatshops, they will reply and tell assure you that they don't. It's more about not wanting to lose potential customers, if they admit that they use animal-based adhesives. I doubt you would even get a straight answer, if you asked your shop's rep, but it wouldn't hurt trying.

SoleTech, Huf, State and Lakai are pretty good about it in their catalogs, as well as customer service...well, actually Lakai ignored me, so I got a pair of eS, instead, which was about 7-8 years ago.

ok boys (and gals) I literally don't have any other skate shoes at the moment so I took the Ryan Lays out for a roll the other day with a replaced insole and ... I don't like them. Not from a lack of trying on my part but they just aren't my cup of tea. Accordingly (and keeping with the theme of veganism/ not wanting to waste stuff) I'm willing to send them to a SLAP pal for free provided you pay the shipping from Japan. The stock insole is damaged now after ripping them out but it has been replaced with an OG (brand new) etnies marana set of insoles I had lying round. Size 10 but will be sent out in some random shoe box because I didn't keep the original one. Please PM me if you're interested.
The huf Sotos I ordered were a tad too tight as well so I'll be flipping them on eBay while I try and find something to please my fussy feet. At this rate I'll probably go and buy some Rowley 1s online because they're cheap and I know how they fit ... the search continues
