Just got this in my email too. Pretty interesting concept honestly, I'm interested in seeing how it plays out. Might have to try a month or something

I'd do it for a company I was fanboy of, like hook-ups/JKindustries

I thought it would be cringy, but I kinda liked that ad. The praying in the cap was good.
If I was 17 and a fan of primitive I'd probably suscribe with a friend or two in order to have a fresh deck every 2/3 months. I'm not a fan of primitive but the concept is brillant. Does anybody knows about their wheels? Are they any good? Or just the regular deck brand wheel?

Edit: If it works, I wonder what will be the reaction of other big actors of the industry (dlx, dwindle etc...) but I'm pretty sure other brands like element or plan b could follow.
What they are doing is being sure people buy only from them even if it means less margin by each sell, if it means selling more products, at the end of the day it works.

If I were into tiny, flat, pointy boards that wouldn't be a bad deal.

$900 a year for 12 decks? Pretty rotten deal, even worse for skate shops.

Thats a bad deal, but a good pitch and business move.

Fast forward to kids focusing minty decks at the skatepark because they have a new one coming, melted wax everywhere.

I was thinking this as well.
Im sure Dwindle and NHS could do the cheaper.

I was also thinking this could just be another way to rebrand mystery boxes, which is just to move excess inventory.

Who even skates primitive wheels, and those who do, who needs a new set every month? New tshirt every month plus wax and random shit you may not even need sounds like excess to me. On top of that, you can't choose what graphics you get so they might just throw you shit graphics and ugly tshirts that theyve been struggling to sell.

I think you're better off buying a new deck of your choice every month from your local shop or online $50 give or take, and spend the remaining $25 on things you know you need. Pretty good business strategy though, some kids will definitely lap this shit up.

Do you think it took 2017 Good Christian Years to developed a monthly product subscription and dollar shave club finally made the breakthrough?

Monthly sub boxes are everywhere, from wine to razor and now, skateboards.

At SW, you can get a Primitive deck, free mob m80, a primitive shirt, shitty deck branded wheels and some wax for around $110 (no sale items and it include free 2 day shipping), so you do actually save in the long run.

That said, you know the wheels are bad (even if Prod does seem to sk8 them), and how much wax or primitive shirts do you really need?

If you're into the brand and if the wheels didn't suck, maybe it's a good deal? ::)

Oops. I just posted about this in "Useless Wooden Toy Banter". Deleted.

It's a spoof on that old "Dollar Shave Club" commercial. I thought it seemed similar, so I watched it and the lines are lifted almost directly from that.

$900 a year for 12 decks? Pretty rotten deal, even worse for skate shops.

Primitive Deck - $50
Primitive Wheels - $30
Primitive T Shirt - $25
Primitive Wax - $8
Primitive Griptape - $10

Total: $123
Yearly to buy that stuff: $1,476

Subscription for Year: $900

Savings: $576

Sell 9 of the 12 sets of wheels for $25 at the skatepark (who needs new wheels every month): $225

Savings: $805

Not really that bad actually.

Switching out wheels every month does seem a bit excessive. Even dudes who aren't skating F4s or STFs can still make their wheels last at least a few months.

Hahahaha. There used to be this crazy kid in Sydney, would only buy Girl stuff from CCS and fully come to the spot with boxes, saying he was on Girl direct. Even said he was filming for Yeah Right back in the day. Delusional, but very entertaining.

After thinking about it again, I wonder about the reaction of shops. If I was a shop I would stop selling Primitive. I mean why would someone would buy a primitive deck from a shop for 50/60$ if he can have a free t shirt and a set of wheels paying 20$ more?
Also, I just realized Tactics doesn't sell Primitive and CCS has all the deck brands organized in alphabetical order, other than CCS which is the first choice, and Primitive which is the second choice...kinda strange.

I think it's actually a risky move. Erik Bragg talked about that online shop he wanted to make with dlxsf, anf how Jim Thiebaud said it wasn't a safe move on the long run, because it would end up killing the scene.

Nah, but a similar type of deal. Totally delusional kid, lied about everything.
When the Lakai team first came to Australia, Biebel had just gotten on Girl as an am. This kid walked straight up to him and shook his hand, said "welcome to the team bro". Biebel being the kind of dude he is went "Ahhh, yeah, thanks bro...its tight".
Then the kid walked up to Howard, in front of everyone at the signing, and thanked him for the boxes. Same thing. Howard just went "Sure, no worries....", fully not knowing what this kid was on about, but not wanting to be a prick obviously.
It was wild to watch hey...

Back when the subscription idea started taking off I wondered if anyone in the skateboard industry would latch onto it. It seems better suited for companies like CCS / Active rather than a specific brand.

Even if you really like a certain brand, who doesn't like to switch it up every once in awhile?  Shit, even if you keep it within the same wood shop, it's fun to try different brand decks.  And who the hell wants a new tee every month from the same brand?  It's like paying to pretend you're "flow."
