$900 a year for 12 decks? Pretty rotten deal, even worse for skate shops.
[close]

Primitive Deck - $50
Primitive Wheels - $30
Primitive T Shirt - $25
Primitive Wax - $8
Primitive Griptape - $10

Total: $123
Yearly to buy that stuff: $1,476

Subscription for Year: $900

Savings: $576

Sell 9 of the 12 sets of wheels for $25 at the skatepark (who needs new wheels every month): $225

Savings: $805

Not really that bad actually.

I could save $1300 on $1400 worth of primitive shit and it would still be a loss

Plus who actually would buy primitive wheels from some rando for $25?

Well obviously you don't like Primitive and wouldn't buy this, so it makes 0 sense for you, as it is meant for people who would like Primitive stuff............ Kids buy product off each other all the time at skateparks. They used to at mine... Shoes, boards, wheels.

To me, Primitive is the no brand, brand. Nothing overly offensive and playing it safe, nothing memorable graphics-wise or t-shirt-wise (for the most part). T

The skating, however, speaks for it self.

I remember talking about this to a skateboarding sub box ceo while working at his company in 2015 but he didnt care and now prod/primive launches this lol. Looks like he now got some competition.

Also as usual lots of ppl judge really quick. They will have time to iterate on what's in the box, and work on the offering. It doesnt have to be perfect at first. They're probably doing this to crash test the market and see who the first subscribers are, where they live, age, etc. They will get feedback on the products and the offer.
Another thing some people here need to know is that slap users are not representative of the market. A teen from the suburbs doesnt think like a west/east coast teen or a 35yo-9.0-slappy skateboarder who writes posts on Slap.
Also, they probably know that the 1set of wheels/month is a problem but decided to launch it this way while thinking about a more suitable package.

Anyway, curious to see how it goes and people reaction.

It's a $75 deck in disguise.

"Can we even afford this?" YES! Nike skateboards will survive these trying times.

So this could be coincidental but Socal Skateshop is having 25% off all their primitive stuff, maybe depleting stock because they heard about this thing?

Monthly subscriptions are shitty for skateboarding imo. I like going to the skate shop and seeing different shapes and graphics and choosing what looks best. Wheels are basically a once or twice a year purchase, and wax somehow always finds its way to me even though I try to not use it (pushing faster is better). I don't think I've bought a skate t shirt in like 5 years except for a Doom Sayers shirt because I'm egotistical as fuck.

I have to say fuck Primitive for this one. Your shit is already in Zumiez, your shit is already in REAL skate shops, and you STILL have to go for even more territory. It feels like a big middle finger to the dying breed of skate shops.

im quoting Prod from the nineclub on this - but your wrong about "big middle finger to shops" - we as consumers have already set the bar on where we buy most of our shit which is why amazon bought whole foods out..

amazon, ccs, tactics etc have been a way bigger middle finger to any retail shops (beyond skating) a good decade before this skateboard subscription came out
Skateboarding is like jacking-off, it's that good- Jeremy Klein

This gave me the impression that P-Rod doesn't give a fuck about skateshops. Possibly because he already regards them as "history"? Being a person who buys boards in bulk (from shops only, though) I would probably not want a new, monthly deck that I have never tried before. It would be hit or miss especially with the shape, even if the board size is selected during the subscription process.

Why give a fuck about skateshops when you can smoke cigars though

I feel like with this subscription I could take these cool things down to Fairfax Blvd and become popular with the quickness so it's definitely worth it.

is this catching on?

I saw a 3 kids with the "exclusive" oneil deck. They were cousins. IDK if they subscribed or just did a one time purchase.

There's a difference between paying homage to something and completely ripping it off.

I have never seen this before. It's so much better than Primitive's ripoff.

Never underestimate the power of parenting...kids might have said ooh look for $75 we get this, if they are constantly nagging the parents to buck up the cash, as a parent, this is an easy thing...kids won't badger me, I'll save money. Done deal.
