What to do when injured???
« on: June 29, 2017, 05:15:53 PM »
Recent minor injury has set me back to where skateboarding is uncomfortable and painful.  I know many of you have had more serious/long term injuries that have prevented skating for months on end, and for someone where skateboarding took up a lot of my time (besides work/school/etc), how did you stay sane? Besides minor rehab, what are some good ideas to constructively waste time?  BTW, it is tendonitis of the knee cap, any tips for healing??? Thnx slap fam.

I honestly don't even remember what I was doing last time I was injured (must've blocked out the memories), I think I was drinking/getting high a lot, don't do that!

I'd recommend painting, tap into your inner templeton, or gonz.

Have your portrait painted

Learn to speak a foreign language and make sure you use it

Go skinny-dipping at midnight in the South of France

Watch the launch of the space shuttle

Spend a whole day eating junk food without feeling guilty

Be an extra in a film

Tell someone the story of your life, sparing no details

Make love on a forest floor

Get a good paying job, talk to people about how you used to skate.

I just came off a minor injury (2 weeks off the board) & as much as I said to myself I wouldn't fall into the same old rut of smoking way too much weed, surfing Slap compulsively and playing Skate 3 all day, I must confess that was exactly what happened. Again.

Its just one of those things. Art, work out, drink, shoot pool, pick up girls or guys, or just whatever your into. Your best best is to heal up the kneecap, but if your still young, Im sure you'll find more fun shit to do. I recovered for 4.5 months from a skull fracture and broken collarbone. I quit drinking, took my meds and healed up. Was bored as fuck and outta work, but my main concern was to let my brain stop bleeding. Def had some cabin fever as they call it. I watched all 7 seasons of Archer 3 times and walked the dog. There is a college beach volleyball courts next to my apartment, so I lurked there with my dog till they kicked me out.

Word life.
I would suggest buying some books, good ones. Read those. Watch some movies.
And if it doesn't hurt too much, walk. Walk as much as you can.

depends on the level of injury; if not that bad going out on my bike helped a lot with the stress of thinking about skating... but when I get really fucked up, THIS:

I just came off a minor injury (2 weeks off the board) & as much as I said to myself I wouldn't fall into the same old rut of smoking way too much weed, surfing Slap compulsively and playing Skate 3 all day, I must confess that was exactly what happened. Again.

I blew my back out really bad in early September. I landed myself in the hospital for 24 hours, and bed ridden for a week and then on light duty for two months at work. I really didn't have energy for much else except Netflix and light reading. Once I was able to sit upright, I started collaging like mad. Art, reading and catching up on entire series of shows I'd never watched really helped. Kept my mind occupied. You've gotta rest and take it easy as much as possible. It took me six months to be able to skate again. So hyped to be back after that long.

you like music? learn to play an instrument. you'll suck at first, but once you learn a few basics you'll suck a little less. some used gear from the pawn shop and some youtube tutorials are all you need.

Lay off the booze, eat slightly better, beat your meat, play skate 3 then get itchy to skate and once rolling around and trying a trick or 2 realize that it wasn't worth it, play guitar, cry, listen to the Smiths, and binge watch tv

Focused my fibula in early February and I've only been walking for about a month. I've mainly just been watching a ton of skate videos, playing guitar, and biking now that I'm able to. If you have other hobbies I'd delve into them a bit deeper. Read some books; spend more time with people you care about; learn something new; clean up the house. Just keep yourself busy in a constructive way.

Ive been wanting to do this for years. I am absolutely terrible on every instrument, and been kicked off the drums and guitar to be replaced by an 8 year old. Cant even make it through a Ramones song. However, I still want to do it. Ever use that Guitar Smith game on Xbox? One day I'll try again though...
