first things first... DO NOT GO THE VHS STYLE ROUTE
Shit is fucking overdone!
I have a made a few full length videos, my advice would be:
Filming:
- Filming with your friends is key!
- I found it easier to get all the filming done first, then edit.
- If you're not having fun filming, what's the point? Footage will show that.
- Upload after every session, footage might be lost or corrupted if you wait.
Editing:
- I'd recommend Premiere Pro, works well with other adobe programs like After effects and Encore
- Edit each part under the same project file but in a different sequence.
- Keep your shit organized well.. folders and bins are necessary for easy work
- Understand the flow of the video, and how each part will transition together.
- Understand your composition and what your format is. Shitty quality will make it unwatchable
- [DVD] Export each part as a regular video file from Premiere Pro, and use Adobe Encore to piece it together for a DVD. This will make chapters, menus, and will eventually create your "master copy"
- [SINGLE VIDEO ONLINE] There are multiple ways to create a final product. You can also edit in one sequence, but i wouldn't reccommend it. If you're just putting it online, import each single part into a final sequence and export that.
- If you're serious about the editing, and wanna create something a little more detailed; understand your theme and what you're trying to put out. Are you trying to put something out that looks fun, gnarly, raw, artsy, comical? Have fun with it.
Premiere:
- If you're trying to premiere at a theater, figure out how many people would actually come. For me, Entry fees covered the theater costs, and I made like 100 bucks in DVD sales.
- See if your local shop would sponsor it and help with any costs. or even market for it.
- You can always premiere it at a skate shop
- If not, premieres at homies houses is always the shit, then you can get wild.
Thats all I got. Good luck, and have fun .
