why is the nose larger and at a greater angle on some boards? does it help drag and flip when you kick your foot upward? when i was a kid i really liked reese forbes and donger so I thought that the tail needed a greater angle for greater pop.

I always thought it was for ollies, so your front foot can lift the board easier! And a flatter tail for quicker pop..

props to anyone from the olde school/anyone who prefers their deck sans-nose.
i just can't imagine the act of skateboarding without a second tail. it's basically a different sport. I can't imagine why skateboarding was popular before the twin tail. too difficult.

Walmart has twin tail technology but sometimes they have a logo on the grip so you have to obey it. My trucks are different so its more about the trucks than the board, my front is more loose and carvy.

This. My trucks are always asymmetrical, so riding backwards is a no-go.

Jim Greco. Early 2000s transworld.
Pretty sure it was Muska who said this in an interview before. Not sure about Greco, but quite possible.
I remember my cousin who was older than me started doing it 'cause Muska was the dude back in the early 2000's. I remember tripping out on it since it made setting up nollie a little more difficult, but then I realized Muska didn't really skate switch or nollie too much.

I've always skated backwards. I tried to shake it once when I first was told I was and then again 5 or 6 years ago just to see. Never felt right. I always wondered if people noticed

I'm old, so I blame everything on my gear whenever I suck.

But seriously:
I can't skate of the nose, except for nollie stuff of course.
Everything else is strictly off the tail.

I also tried a habitat Guru deck a while back which basically was a double-tail.
I couldn't land shit becaus emy balance seemed off. I gave it away to a young kid (he's good!) and bought a FA deck with the biggest nose possible.

Sean Payne comes to mind as someone who rides their board backwards and he always killed it, so obviously it works for some people but I feel like it would be super weird to do this long term.

Millencolin - Use Your Nose

Use your tail as your nose going switchstance...

Anyway, tail stalls using the nose seem to work better for me. Weird.

Does everyone ride the nose as the tail when doing switch tricks?

Yeah, and I revert right before popping so everyone knows it's switch.
