Dude is fucking gnarly.

If I didn't have the image of him trying to smash Raven Tershy in the head with a skateboard over a slashed tire I'd appreciate him more, but that's kinda burned into my brain.

From the interview on the Thrasher site:

Quote
Expand Quote

CLINT WALKER IS NOT A VILLAIN—no matter what the cops or the Internet rebels say.

Did you and Raven ever squash the beef?
Dude, I don’t know! I don’t know if he’s still mad. I’m not. I haven’t been. It’s so funny because to me that’s something where I wish I hadn’t done what I did, but I wish he didn’t do what he did either, you know?
[close]

Yea man, if someone slashed the tire of the team van I was riding in, that I wasn't financially responsible for, and comprehensive insurance or $100 would cover (or just put on the spare), I'd totally want to smash them in the head with a skateboard as well...

Quote
Expand Quote
It was just something that happened and that’s it. I told him, “Sorry,” and he was, like, “Fuck you,” or whatever, but I’m not mad. I don’t even care about any of that shit.  I don’t think about it and I don’t think they—well, yeah, I think they do still think about it. There was someone the other day that texted me and told me Elijah was talking shit on me on some webcast or some shit. I didn’t care or get mad. It’s just weird to me that it’s still even a thing.

So that being said, how does it feel to be the bad wrestler of skateboarding now, the villain? How did that happen?
Ha! I don’t know. I guess it was God’s plan.

Yeah, the editing gods of reality TV.
I don’t even know. I don’t think so.

Well, you’re only the villain to the people who only see the side of the skater they like more. Pretty much, right? Is it a popularity contest?
I think sometimes shit just happens and that’s it. It’s just the way it is. I’m not bummed on it. I don’t feel that way. I never meet people who are bummed on me. No one’s ever, like, “Hey, fuck you, dude.” Kids are just hyped to meet me. Maybe people are bummed on the Internet, but fuck them. I don’t even know who those 12 year olds are. The only time anyone brings it up is in interviews or something. It’s never affected my real life or anything. It’s all TV stuff. It’s not in the real world."

[close]

The fact that a human can't be bummed on themselves for an action that literally could have ended a fellow skater's life over something that could easily be fixed... that's the part that personally gives me no reason to forgive the guy.

Of course, no one is going to say "Fuck you" to your face in real life. We've all seen how you could potentially overreact in a situation. It's some scary shit dude.
It's insane that Clint offers what seems to be a half-assed apology after braining someone with his skateboard and doesn't understand why people have beef with him. Beyond KOTR, his entitled behavior in the Wilshire fiasco really soured me on Clint -- asking someone to hold back coverage so he could reap the benefits from his doing it, and than having his cronies post the ollie and the date he did it like it's some game-changing maneuver was weak as shit.

With that being said, this dude's spot selection is always worth a watch, despite his off-the-board antics or on-the-board posture.

So I just watched his part
https://youtu.be/TKwihHXLKhs
And have concluded that much like Nyjah, had I never heard or seen him off a skateboard I'd probably be more into his skating. Yes he is gnarly and the spots he skates are pretty fucked, buuut he is who he is,whatever.

Damn I left my bubbler at my parents house

Ok also have to ask-

Did anyone else feel that the clip placement/maybe editing in general was just way off for this section?

I like the part and the song is good (wish more people skated to modest mouse) , I just feel like it could be SO MUCH BETTER...

Weird cuts, off beat, strange tricks back to back, slo-mo.. etc

I remember J Hernandez always posting about his computer crashing when he would edit... I’m wondering if kind of just sent out some pretty strong rough edits and said fuck it ...

Video edit is pretty tame and slow for the first half. Should spent more time finding a better song and editing it in a slightly faster and more dramatic way

HOW does he get back up from those slams?
I'm guessing he's young still but damn.

that rough cut vid might earn its place in skating history honestly. It's just uber-gnar and the quantity is nuts too. Not only that, but I thought trick and spot selection were really interesting... and that does not fit the jock narrative does it?

The only drawback for me is his style ain't the greatest but damn. What a maniac. I don't know why but that 5-0 fakie into huge bank with landing on dirt might be the one trick that sticks out for me. who'd think of that trick on a "spot" like that?

Its all about that bs 180 into that bank then switch heel.

I fully expected he was going to die on that mach 5 switch heel. His footage is dope but this part didn't really work for me somhow, Ambig part was better.

Been a fan of his since Modern Art.  I think its hard to judge someones character from a reality TV show, even if he is a douche his skating is fucking amazing.

But Ill be the first to admit that Wilshire beef was lame as fuck.

agreed. i don't see how he's any less likable that forest.

that switch heel after the back 180 in the bank was crazy and trying to back five 0 that huge hubba in the pouring rain was so gnarly. all the no comply tricks on to rails were nuts. really enjoy his skating.

Okay, he really does not seem to be the most likeable or smart person ever, but his skating is completely psycho and I love watching it. The rough cut definitely brought this out better than the part itself. He puts everything on the line 100 per cent of the time.
[close]

I've had one of my patented changes of heart. I like the guy. I think Clint Walker is probably a pretty cool dude in person. If my antics had the same kind of scrutiny his did, people would hate me 10x more.
[close]

Clint is pretty normal in person. He's definitely a smart-ass, and that prob contributes to the villain image. No way he would ever ACTUALLY smash another skaters brains out with a skateboard, that's just ridiculous. He's also a really good skateboarder that does insane shit on a daily basis.
[close]
Yeah that'd be like beating up a homeless person, no way would Clunt do that
[close]

He didn’t even beat him up... dude got what was coming to him (whatever that was)...

People soooo soft

Dude broke the contact barrier when he put his hands on clint, clint wrestled him down and swung a bit. Been in similar shit with my friends :P

Also this was amazing and made my day.

I also have a change of heart. Wish they would have used an alternative angle as well as the drone shot for that last trick because the drone perspective flattens that hill.

Some of the filming was weird, but honestly I love skateboarding and I appreciate that jocks like clint have a place in the culture.

Clint you the man ✔️

"Braining" him? He hit him in the back, and nothing happened to him at all. He didn't go to the hospital, he didn't get hit in the head, he sustained a minor injury
Team van he was riding in and not financially responsible for? It wasn't the team van, it was his friend's (David Loy's) car. Slashing a friend's tire deserves more than a stern talking to

Again, dude in tent attacked him first. If you want to go in on him for bothering a guy by skating next to his tent, ok, I guess (you and I bother people every day we skate the streets), but y'all again are exaggerating what happened for the sake of drama.

heres the thing man
if i was living in a tent and didn't skate i would be upset too if some cowboy kept skating by my head.i wouldn't come out swinging but the truth is  just because the dudes homeless doesn't mean he shouldn't be treated like a human. there are plenty of spots out there clint can go film his "throw away line" at. would it have ruined his day to just move on and find someplace else to skate? i doubt it. clearly the homeless guy is having a hard time in life, clint knew he was in the tent and kept zipping by his head. that right there is a dick move and i can see how from the dude in the tents eyes he might have felt threatened by it all. anyways i skate for fun and for me pissing people off isn't all that fun. if i ever feel like I'm pissing someone off when I'm skating in the streets i just move on. there is a whole world of shit to skate i don't need to ruin anyones day with my fun.

Wild stuff! On a semi-related, semi-unrelated note, I was really happy to see actual slams in one these "Rough Cuts", and you know things besides just trick, trick, trick.
Feel like every other rough cut is just 10 minutes of landed tricks, cool but no substance man!

I'm not going to pretend Clint should get an award for citizen of the year, but y'all are a bunch of overdramatic gossipy bitches who like to turn everything into a bigger thing than it is and will literally change the facts of the story to feed your bullshit internet outrage.

Shit, if it was Loy's car, I fucked up and was wrong about which tire got stabbed. This doesn't change the original story of: "Clint Walker assaulted Raven Tershy over a tire".

The logical thing would have been to say: "Hey man, you need to pay us to fix the problem you just created".

Ronald Wilson.... you do realize you are justifying a fellow skater attacking another skater because the skater who got hit didn't get sent to the hospital. That's like saying: "Oh, that dude shot at me with a gun, but he missed, so it's all good".

Jockstrap showing the hipsters how it's done with the body varial and no comply variations. It's a shame it can't be discussed without degrading into Raven vs Clint or Homeless Guy vs Clint debates.

I want to like Clint Walker and fully appreciate the talent he has on a board, but when you do something fucked up off the board, that's going to stick with me. I was hoping he would redeem himself in the interview Thrasher posted to go along with the clip, but he pretty much just said: "I wish that didn't happen, I said sorry and I don't even think about it anymore".  Doesn't seem like much reflection or acceptance of overreacting to something so trivial.

He's not alone in this thought process. How many times have you been with someone who does something fucked up to someone, but they act like they played no role in the process? I'm sure we can all relate to not accepting our fault in the situation.

Side rant:
Needless to say, these forums hold power. I can't help but see this every time they are referenced in a negative light. Sure, fucked up opinions float around from time to time but this is the last remaining resource out there where we can continually discuss shit that happens in the skateboarding industry with relevance.

If you come here expecting a bunch of clones agreeing with one another about how rad everything about skateboarding is, you have come to the wrong place.
