Mariano is off.

Hmm based off his IG he’s at Nike HQ in Oregon with the rest of the team, but you’re probably right.   I mean, what right does Nike have to add or drop people from its team?   Skater owned companies would never be so disloyal.  If only the SB program was more like Nike’s basketball program where they list the hundreds of players they provide shoes for.   But I guess that’s it.  Nike SB’s 20 year plan to infiltrate the industry, build up everyone’s bank account at the expense of a few local skate shops, and then start start firing everyone because the Olympics are two years away

I'd like to see a "Top Trumps" set of Nike riders playing cards to get an idea of how their minds work.

Street Cred
Market share
Shoe Units moved
Olympic hopeful
Profitability
Hype-beast factor
360 Marketing deal
Exposure
Oh and skateboarding.

I imagine him looking in the mirror crying while he posted this. If it was a Sinclair call I'm sure he told him the reason why, even if it was a "It's not gonna work out." Tough up and get new kicks, that post is just attention seeking bullshit similar to when your girl dumps you and you pathetically air it out on social media.

that actually gives me a better perspective of it. thank the great sky turtle i didn't have social media the first i got dumped by a long time gf or the first time i got fired. if social media existed at the time i would probably have done something similar but even more lame. being a nike rider is kind of all he knows.  its his first "long term relationship," so Im not gunna judge him for posting that...  I would judge him if he made the the bitch move and went back right to nike before the Olympics or street league or whatever.   Remember, when someone does wrong by you-- you have to spend at least the next decade pretending they don't exist while simultaneously doing everything in your power to make them regret fucking you over and destroying everything they have built.

I attribute to a lot of my professional success to my inability to let go of a grudge.  the two driving factors in my life are resentment and guilt.

It was the same with Nike's Golf Team...Most of the guy's at the tournaments were Freshly Dipped, From Head to toe in Nike Gear, Yet only like 5-10 guys were actually listed on their Page.

The kid Yoshi is still young...Look's like he got his 1st taste of the real World. Ive been to a handfull of company Lay-Off's, Right before christmas, Dudes crying & what not.

On a side Note...Im surprised Tiger Woods didnt get cut after his Xanax & Pornstar Rampage. EVen Kobe got cut from Adidas after his little Ordeal

Nike golf no longer exists. I do not see SB being cut completely but they will have to right the ship to maintain, long time coming IMHO.

The teams huge, but I doubt it will be as black and white as is being hinted at in the original post.I mean, GT, and Koston are the biggest part of their branding, and while Anti-Hero is respected, it isn't viewed as a "cool" Supreme brand like 917 or FA. CK1 also doesn't fit into either category really, and I would bet if he is "let-go" it is more to do with his legal troubles than a long-term image play by the brand. I also don't really see how the legends fit into this like Lance, BA, Gino, Guy etc. They aren't street leaguers, but Nike firing them all at once would hurt their brand more than letting go of all their street leaguers outside of Ishod and Shane.

I also think the pointing to their only Ams ride for 917, Numbers and Skate Mental is just random timing. Yuri Facchini was down there like 4 months ago, but just got the bump. I'm sure Yuto and Zion are getting paid, and will be officially on in time.

They'll probably let people go. But, to think they will divide their team into two very distinct categories is probably way to black and white compared to the grey-area a bunch of riders fit in. Grant Taylor doesn't fit into riding for a trendy new brand or skate heavily in contests? Where does he fit in, in the idea laid out in the first post? Where does Koston or Janoski? Cory Kennedy has his own shoe and doesn't skate street leagues and doesn't ride for a trendy new brand either.

Nike got out of making the hard goods for golf. They still make shoes and apparel. They aren't in and never have been in the skateboarding hard goods market.

The other issue is, you don't have to skate to want or wear Nike SB, whereas people who casually rock golf cleats around is a fairly limited market. Considering how cool and trendy skateboarding culture has become with Supreme and Palace in recent years, its highly unlikely Nike, Adidas or Converse leave anytime soon.

well grant's grant. he just put out a thrasher part (of sorts) on one QP - and we all went gaga for it. he and koston ride for supreme, too. grant just had a shoe, and put out a part for collab for them. i think proximity to that company ensures some sort of security. also, antihero is probably marketable in that run-around hypocrite "major threat" way. stu kirst is on flow, and what's the space between brainbombs and no trend?
anyway, i think, say, daryl angel'd go first. he's not up to much and has abuse rumors sifting around.
i do agree that pro's will probably go, but not grant. it's pedantic

I was curious a while ago and  looked at their team page to see who their ams were. Was surprised to see it was basically the 917 team. Apparently even dudes like Zion, or lesser Olympic types like Midler are having trouble getting fully on. Maybe they're waiting for the 'roster' to be set.

The only skaters Nike SB considers "am" are Vincent Touzery, Darkness, Antonio Durao and Kyron Davis.

Representing each of the board brands they've reportedly invested in (917, Skate Mental, Numbers).

Meanwhile there's guys like Josh Pall who is pro, had his own Blazer colourway with his name on it, and is nowhere to be seen on the Nike team page.

I can see guys getting let go. Just saying that I'd be surprised to see it cut so distinctly. One because it'd be so blatantly transparent. And two, because they still have a bunch of marketable people who don't fall into either category.

I also don't think Grant is on Supreme. Volcom is his clothing sponsor and Stratosphere is his shop sponsor.

There's other guys too who don't really fit either criteria but are marketable as hell, like Theotis.

Also, if they let Lance go, they probably lose any good will they've gained among older skaters. And if Bobby Worrest is without a shoe sponsor again, something is wrong in the skate industry. At this point, they should just create Jordan skate, and send a bunch of those guys over.

Jordan skate

If they took their core guys and made a classics range (bruin/blazer/classic/fc/dunk) and keep them in solid colourways concentrate on early nike air type marketing it could be fucking incredible. This would allow them to have a more unabashed Olympic type team, more focused towards sports tech.

Essentially have your cake and eat it. Although they already do cos they are fucking Nike.

I vaguely remember a shoe from that era with really fat stripes that continued across the sole or maybe down to the sole. A guy at the park swore by them but they were pretty fugly.

We shall see. It would be interesting to see if companies like New Balance come in and take some of these guys in. I'd also like to see some of them jump over to a brand like Huf or possibly Vans. However it seems like Nike is doing well in shops and everywhere else due to the fact that they have wrapped themselves into these smaller brands, i.e. WKND, 917, and whatever else.

Nike sucks. Their blazers suck now. I've tried the GT blazers and the blazer low in the past year and they last me about one and  half weeks. Sucks for Yoshi but honestly getting free nikes for half your life isn't something to complain about.

not getting anymore nikes suddenly is something to complain about. if you live in a retail zone nikesb van adidas cons can all be attained at an outlet store. nike is poaching team riders from other brands, paying them while they burn their bridges, and dropping them. its part or the dominating the industry. there was a thread about it a while back.
