RIP Pitcrew Skateshop :(
« on: December 14, 2017, 09:04:28 PM »
The shop announced on instagram that they're closing down on December 31st.

Sad to see such a legendary east coast shop close down, they've been around since the 90's and have done a lot to build the skate community in Maryland/DC. They also have put on so many good demos over the years.

A shop of this size closing down seems like a red flag for independent/core skateshops still trying to keep up with the industry, and it's a bit discomforting.

support your local shop!

Never went there, met a couple of their riders - nice cats. This one hurts us all. They were a solid shop.

Somehow, at 15 and living in MI, I ended up with a copy of their Where Im From video, and uploaded every part to youtube. I randomly got a message from the owner, thanking them for uploading the parts and offering me a copy of their next video. Dude actually sent it what felt like two years later.

Always a bummer when this kind of thing happens.

You 'vintage sponsor' type mfs better let me get a Tshirt before you buy up all the dead stock for the 1000% hypebeast resale come-up!

I thought they were the strongest real skateshop still going that wasn't born within the land of Fruits and Nuts.

I'm about to pour all these bearings with some black cat fireworks into a makeshift suicide vest and head to the 100k, I can't take this shit much more. The Bad Guys stay winning in 2017.

This truly sucks. Can’t stress enough about supporting your local. Was in there last weekend on a lil skate trip and the shop looked so good. But as a skate shop employee myself everything is smoke and mirrors.

It’s shocking to see what I thought was one of the best and most pivotal skateshops on the east coast closing its doors. It’s scary as fuck.

As an ode to pitcrew everyone should go to their local this weekend and buy something, whether it’s grip, shoes, socks, board or a fucking shirt. And if they don’t have something you want, if you ask them to order it 99% of the time they can and will.

Noooo! They're my closests local shop. I used to work across from their pre-flood location. Great, friendly people there.

Waking up this morning and seeing this thread again makes me incredibly sad... Pitcrew was and always will be the best and was an east coast institution. I don't think things have been the same since the flood and they left the main st location or w/e the streets called. It I can't believe they're going though. If vú goes there won't be a single shop in the Baltimore area.

A bit inland in Maryland is Shrimptown Skateshop in Sykesville. They're small, but they're right next to the best park in the state, IMHO. So it's worth it for a road trip.

As a shop owner nothing saddens me more then seeing a local shop close it's doors, no matter how well you know them or even knowing them at all.  We all know what the "local" shop does for it's community.  Pitcrew gave so much to it's community in the mid-atlantic but they also gave skateboarding as a whole some amazing videos, helped us notice dudes Like Bobby, SPivey, Pat Smith, Zack Lyons, Mullendore, Rupp and so many more to list.
I hope everyone in and around that area will support the closest shop to them, or even a little bit out of the comfort zone.

Support your local skate shop & if you don't have one support a small independently owned shop somewhere else.  They are the backbone to skateboarding.

UGH!!!!!! this sucks.  Pitcrew was my childhood shop every though I lived almost 2 hours away.  Every couple of months my dad would drive us to the Hill St skatepark and we'd always make a stop at Pitcrew even if we didn't buy anything.

Anyone remember the skatepark video they made? I think Mark Nichols made it. I loved it and thought it had a dope soundtrack. It had its own place in my video rotation right in there with TIS and Skate More.

Damn R.I.P.  Over the summer I drove through Sayreville NJ for old time sake and discovered that NJ skateshop was closed down.  I know they have other stores in NJ, but that was the original shop and its weird knowing that its gone now.  I even passed by the skate park around there that was once packed with kids and now its pretty much deserted and deteriorating.  They used to have awesome demos there.  Glad I was able to experience them growing up.

It was never my local but I have cool memories of the Pitcrew team, or maybe just a couple of affiliated dudes, showing up at the Everson museum (featured prominently in the 411 clip above) in Syracuse and fucking up the place way back in the late 90s. I think it may have been during or before a Zero demo? Either way they killed it harder than a coked up Ellington at the time.

As far as them closing, they ain't in debt and are profitable, just other things going on in their lives that take precedence. They killed it forever, so someone else's turn now. Going out while the going is good, like Heath or something, so don't be too bummed.
