Gear that you tried and didn’t like
« on: December 27, 2017, 09:53:29 PM »
Basically anything you tried and thought was pretty shitty.

I’ll start this off with Bronson G3s. Was recommended them as a cheaper alternative to Swiss with the same performance. They were fast at first, but after the first month they felt like crap. Should’ve just stuck to Swiss.

Adidas Stan Smith vulc and Huf Hufnagel 2

Stan smiths hurt walking let alone skating

Huf 2 was slippery and "unresponsive"

Krux aren't all they are cracked up to be either

Been riding indy's exclusively since 96. Tried some thunders last year. Hated them.

Basically ride 8" boards and when I order them online, the majority work out. Had one Heroin I ordered and just never got along with it. Gave to my buddies kid.

Emerica Figgy shoe... comfortable, good cupsole support, flick felt nice, but the shoe upper is too thin for my taste. To me it felt like ankle sock boosted with rubber sole.

venture 5.25's - after coming off thunder 149's these things just sucked.

welcome soul splitter - love to love punk point boards but the nose felt small as hell.

emerica indicator - the whole cloth sole thing was not working out for me.

etnies jameson HT - i thought shoes couldn't be "too high" and then i got these.

huf socks - don't make you skate better.

any adidas shoe - just doesn't feel right ever.

good come sausage

Every few years I get it in my head that I should skate some Vans.  I like chilling in them and the outlet nearby always has smokin deals.

So grippy.  Such board feel.  Then I bail one flip trick, stomp on the concrete from 1 ft in the air and realize once again that I cannot skate this shit.

I've been noticing a ton of people have seemed to have bad luck with the Bronson G3's.  I've been riding a set for a while now and I thought they were pretty good.  I didn't feel like they've slowed down or anything like everyone else has reported, but it has made me paranoid that maybe I just "think" they're fast because I'm used to them.  There was another post where a lot of people where showing love for Indy Blacks, and I found a good deal on a set so I'm going to give them a shot.

I know I'm in the minority on this but I just can't get the setup right on Indy trucks.  I had a set and I kept changing bushings and adjusting the tightness all of the time trying to get it to where I felt stable.  Eventually, I got a set of Thunder 149 team highs and once I put bones medium bushings on them, the setup worked really well and I finally feel comfortable on them.  Someone gave me a set of Krux 8.25's and they aren't bad, but I am constantly messing with the bushings and tightness on those too.
I was addicted to the Hokey Pokey, but then I turned myself around.

Replaced them with 78duro 53mm ricta clouds and now I'm a happy camper

Reflex bearings back in 2000. I got the Abec-5s I think. The balks shot out of the bearings in about an hour. I sent them to DNA and they sent me back Abec-7s. Same thing happened in maybe 15 minutes. Went back to Swiss.

Also tried Darkstar wheels cuz Mullen and hated them intensely.

Ricta wheels felt like hard plastic shit when I tried those as well.

Lakai shoes are hit or miss to me. Team models I've liked better than pro.

Tensor trucks in 2001 I tried for maybe 1 day. Couldn't even ride those. Sold em on eBay.

I used to ride Girl decks a lot in 99-01 even though I knew the quality sucked? I just wanted Mariano and Sheffey boards. Then I'd skate AWS and feel like a dumb dumb for even touching those boards. Didn't like yet kept purchasing. Good times

I had the Indicator Low and they didn’t have the cloth sole. They were stitched in the right areas and had good cushioning/boardfeel.

Ha, they’re just comfortable and thicker...good if you have shoes that stretched a bit too much. The performance ones have grip on the bottoms, which is good when you get sweaty.

We have completely different feet. Adidas always feels good except for Stan Smiths and Matchcourts.

Did anyone ever give this stuff a try? I always felt like lighting your money on fire and watching it burn would be more effective use of the dollar.
Am I wrong? What does this one method accomplish that a sweaty hand with repeated heavy slaps can't?
I got beef with Brian sumner and it’s onsite for that fat fucking red coat.

I just haven't had good luck with indy. I love the turn when they're wobbly loose, but the axle threads always seem to get fucked up super easy, grind feel stickier than other trucks, and they require too much tinkering with bushings and washers before they turn well. Gonna get me some Thunder 151 when I get paid next.

Bought a P2 deck cause I thought it would hold up in the humidity. Nose and tail were chipped to shit after three weeks and the pop was completely gone.

I tried a pair of the Bronsons when I was given a free pair. Seemed great for the first week, then all the bearing cages broke apart at the same time. Went right back to swiss and have been on the same set for over a year now.

99'- I regretted a Blind board that snapped on a 180 down a set.
00's-Any truck that wasn't a Indy just didn't flow right or grind right,I've heard good things about Ace but I just bought new 149s so it'll be a while.

Same situation with any wheel thats not Spitfire, Revolution wheels sucked,Darkstar wheels were like riding jaw breakers,Rictas were okay at first then turned to dogshit after a month.

I also regret not buying Hard Luck bearings sooner, they are great.

Rowley solos fucked up my toes,I had bad luck in the AV classics a few years back. The last Lakais I had fell off my feet, literally. I dodged a bullet trying on Supras before impulse buying them, the insole felt like a sandal.

Damn I left my bubbler at my parents house

I realized in the summer that I like boards with a 14 - 14.25 wheelbase because I can't really nosemanny with a longer wheelbase. I tried a bunch of different type boards with longer wheelbases and never could figure out why I sucked at some of my normal tricks until I set up a baker b16.

I'm also not a fan of the tails on the shaped boards that I've had. Like on a nimbus 5000 the board is 8.75 but it tapers so much that the tail feels way too small and short.
That said, I really would like to try the Dane1 Polar shape because it has a short wheelbase, and those curves are sexy as fuck.
