Can't even pick out a favorite song, cause there's too many good ones, but Lonesome Crowded West is my favorite overall MM album.

Pitchfork is pretty lame, but I remember really enjoying this documentary:

And even though it's not a "proper" album, I really like Building Something out of Nothing.

i like so many songs. slow ones are dope but desert/tundra and cockroach are some of the best. and the one that starts w/ isaac talking 'what's up? make lover?' and ends w/ 'they [people] ain't made of nothing but water and shit. alright!'
i kinda played em to death and haven't tried to listen to anything they've done in the last 8-10 yrs.

the never ending math equation one is good.  Pretty neat band.  Good to put on when drinking.  I also haven't listened to them in 15 years.

I never actually listened to Night on the Sun, but have heard most of those songs on ....Nasty Parlour Tricks.
Good stuff yeah.

That Sun Kil Moon cover album of MM songs is worth listening to, if you're a fan of either.

All great, Lonesome Crowded West for sure however, for nostalgic reasons and things that I was going through at the time, Good News For People Who Love Bad News comes at second. As lame as this probably is, I love Shit Luck, that has to be my favorite song. It's the first song I heard of them through the Toy Machine ad in Misled Youth. I was 13 or 14 the first time I saw that video and heard the song. I'm 30 now and enjoy it just as much as the first time.

Absolutely love modest mouse. My favorite album is sad sappy sucker and i also really enjoy their demo tapes. One song mistitled "feelings" can be found on youtube and that has to be my favorite song ever. The whistling at the end is beautiful.
Rest in peace Dick Dale.

My favorite is probably Lonesome Crowded West with This Is A Long Drive at a very close second. I like pretty much everything they've done except for Stranger To Ourselves. It has a couple decent moments, but as a whole it just felt like another indie rock band you'd hear in a Zach Braff film or something. Even Good News and everything that followed I thought was a pretty smooth transition to being a more accessible band, because the songs still had lots of interesting layers and weren't afraid to get weird, but I just can't say the same about their last release.

Man, good thread.

Moon and Antartica was good too.

But must agree, Lonesome Crowded West/This Is A Long Drive are the favourites for sure.

Ugly Casanova was also super good. Actually got a bunch of the Thomas Campbell artwork from that album tattooed.

Only got to see them play live once and they actually played a ton of old stuff.

I have nothing personal against MM, they make really good music. But I have an irrational disdain for them because they were on the same record label as Duster at the same time and MM got big while Duster didn't.

Lonesome Crowded West. Saw them in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2000. When I went to the bathroom in the back, Isaac walked by with a tall boy in his hand. There was almost no one at the show, maybe 10 people at most. I didn't listen to much of their music after that time except when hearing the big hits like that float on song.

My brother's two favorite skate videos when we were growing up were Art Bars and One Step Beyond- both had songs from the Moon and Antarctica, so I may have to call that album a personal favorite. Lonesome Crowded west is a masterpiece, though.

I've made more attempts to get into this band than any other band out there and I still can't say I'm a fan. They've got great songs, but I have never been able to put on an album and stay interested all the way through. My wife recently played Lonesome Crowded West while we were taking down Christmas decorations and that was the closest I've ever come to enjoying a full album, so I might give that another shot again.

I think that I like them when other people play them, but I don't when I do.

a friend of mine the other day told me he's seen isaac around portland a few times, and one time told him to refer to him as mr. brock.

as far as albums go, probably gonna say *right now* its this is a long drive & sad sappy sucker. gotta thank cairo foster's real part for getting me into them.

the live stuff's where its at though!

One of my all time favorite bands. I have seen them three times at three terrible places to see a band, two festivals and a casino.

The first time I saw them I was 17 and they were fantastic. The second time they were pretty good but I blame Boston calling, nobody has good sets there. The third time was at Foxwoods and casino shows are the worst so I don’t blame them at all.
