This thread is eye opening. All this time I thought I was trying something “new” but I was skating all BBS wood.

I’m looking for something different but still good. Any recommendations?

You might not be trying different wood, but what you are more than likely trying is different shapes. While the wood might be the same, each company has their own shapes that they like to use.

For wood recommendations though:

South Central makes some nice boards. A bit on the heavy side, but damn are they durable.

I'm currently skating a DSM deck and liking that a lot. Doesn't feel like it's going to get soggy anytime soon, and doesn't look it will be razoring out either. Probably going DSM again for my next setup.

PS is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a really great one, other times you get one that gets soggy as fast frosted flakes in milk.

I've been wanting to try a Moonshine deck since they switched to Drifter from Pennswood. How's your experience with their wood been?

Quality I give it an A, but personally, they have never made a shape I like. They make a lot of local/shop decks for the southeast so they're hard to avoid.

This is about right....it depends on what your range is...if you can skate a heavier board ie. mainly skate transition, chapman is good too....

On the lighter side....PS or DSM....BBS is the truth though....it's like Indy....DSM is venture.... PS is thunder....SC is Ace....

BBS is more hit and miss for me compared to PS. The variation in an 8.06" within BBS is much greater than the variation of an 8" within PS

I thought I saw somewhere that they were using bbs for some stuff now, but I guess I was wrong. The last PS board I had was a concave nightmare, but now I'm riding a Wade D board and it's so flat I can't flip it at all.

Thats what my skateshop buddy said probably 2 years ago. But kids still buy them so they still carry them. Some local rapper came through and bought 4 or 5 2Pac completes for him and his crew. Maybe there early runs weren't BBS

The concave is my only issue with it. Nose and tail are shaped nicely and the dimensions hit me in all the right places. I think these flatter boards are for people with a lighter touch than I have.

Numbers made their own concave, it’s called M43 mold. It’s BBS wood too. Definitely not flat like say Baker.

very flat every way, then to silver spoon being just mellower than a dlx concave, and deep dish being steep steep.

it cracked after 2 hours of skating flat.

That sucks.  I had a brand new welcome board and let my buddy ride it because he didn’t have a board at the time and snapped it in like 30 min.  Ridiculous.  I am currently skating a wknd board, another ps stix and am loving it.  I’m pretty light-footed though.

I am going to have to try the deep dish board.  Love lots of concave; it’s like training wheels for flip tricks. ;)

Where did it crack? What trick were you doing? I am so torn on PS boards at the moment. I stayed away for at least a year, but the Quasi I'm on has been great. Disclaimer: it's only been a week. Ironically enough, the length on this 8' is longer than the 8.125 and the nose/tail are also longer. Point being, PS shapes and dimensions are very strange.

PS stix is my jam but the past 2 I've ridden are from 2016. Can't say anything about the current state of the wood. Surprised to hear so much bad feedback.

Psstix is always a hit or amiss for me. Suck that have to step on 3 of the same graphic to find the right shape. The concaves are all fucked. When I do find the right one they are sick and really enjoyable. Just can’t buy any psstix board online
