Anyone have experience with Scumco's silver spoon concave? How does it compare to their deep dish and kiddie pool concaves? I'm wanting to try a Pennswood Scumco board but I have to order online since I'm far from any shop that carries them. I dislike flat boards and tapered/pointy kicks, much prefer a lot of concave and fuller kicks. Am I gonna like it/any pointers on other boards that meet that criteria?

silver spoon is like a slightly mellower in the middle of your foot dlx concave. nose and tail are still there, but i would say go for the deep dish, its my favorite. kiddie pool is tooooo flat (including nose and tail) for me.

They definitely have shorter wheelbases, which is what first drew me to them, but DLX has started making shapes that are comparable. They started making lengths around 32" and below and the shorter wheelbases as well. The FA/Hockey 8.25 has a big fat nose and tail and short WB, but the concave can be a little much. Whenever I venture out and try something else, and it doesn't IMMEDIATELY work out, I go right back to a DLX or Polar because I know that's my shit.

Of course I'm talking mostly about the 8.25 shapes and a couple of 8.5
[close]

the 8.5 all have a wb of 14,5, so it is not really short. Maybe the wb of the 8.25 shapes is different.
[close]

8.25 is 14.25 which is shorter than average
[close]

I'd say that 14.25" wheelbase is the average for 8.25" decks, certainly not shorter than average. It's pretty hard to come by with 8.25" decks with longer wheelbases. Main reason why I switched to 8.38" and 8.5" myself.
Most antihero 8.25” atleast use to have 14.38” wb that I can’t stand anymore, I thought it was DLX regular wb on 14 1/4”? If they are using 14.25wb nowadays that is awesome😊

14 1/4 vs 14.25 vs 14 and a quarter which is more bestest?!?!?

My sweet spot usually is 14.5 or 14.25ish

maybe this has already been mentioned but it looks like at least some scumco boards are being done by other manufacturers (PS Stix & Control), the majority look to still be Pennswood though.

Yeah, and Philly's board was PS Stix. Not sure why they do that, maybe Pennswood can't do certain stuff with graphics. I remember Scumco posting something like they used 11 different shades of yellow on Philly's debut pro model

My last Polar (where do we go from here? graphic) was 8.5x14.3. Loved that thing, but wanted to get back into flip tricks and go narrower.

On a Quasi 8.25 and don't love the way it pops.  Feels like the nose and tail are a bit steep.

I thought the Polar 8.25s were even shorter than 14.25?
My Northern co. is 8.25 x 14.375 but it still feels a tad long

The Polar Herrington i checked is listed at

8.25" X 31.875"
NOSE: 7.125"
WHEEL BASE: 14.125"
TAIL: 6.75"

if it were 32" it might may be 14.25

8.5 with 14.25 wheelbase is my favorite right now, Colony, Hockey, DOA, all make them for sure (all different woodshops). Alien might still make one but they do a lot of 8.5 with 14.1.

I have no clue why I am not getting on with these PS boards. I got a Quasi 8.25 and the general shape is cool, but it feels like my timing and pop are off on basically everything but no complies. I had a Hockey 8.38 and an FA 8.125 in the past and thought it was just wheelbase er something. Is it possibly just the nose/tail?

I had a Western Edition deck that was PS and didn't have this issue.

The G033 shape from Crail is 8.5 x 14.25 too. Grabbed two decks on a recent sale and I'm very happy with the shape. Now lets just see about the wood...

Anyone have any info on where shorty’s is getting their boards pressed?  They just put out a couple of old logo boards in sizes I like. I’m assuming it’s the cheapest shit possible, but would like to be proven wrong for nostalgia sake.

I only ride BBS pressed decks, for the most part, but it sucks that only the biggest brands get any leeway with getting different molds etc. Pretty much any smaller to mid size brand gets the exact same, mellower concave standards. I have a friend who I'd love to support but his boards are just too flat, I need more concave. Picked up another Sk8 Mafia 8.25 today that's perfect. Coincidentally, another brand new BBS pressed deck I grabbed, that was flatter, warped quite noticeably within 1 hour of being in my trunk on a hot day. Never leave your board in your trunk, in case anyone needed to be reminded.

Probably. Aren't their price point logo boards from China? I wouldn't be surprised if their Euro wood comes from China too since it would reduce shipping costs.

Nah, their North American price points are still made in Mexico BBS. The difference is the cosmetics of the ply's, usually more knotted discoloured wood which is why they have the cheaper full print graphics top and bottom, no stains. I've found them to last the same as normal DLX decks.

Euro decks, no idea.

So I got a different 8.25 Quasi, much shallower nose. Squared off shape. Like it a lot, did not like the "Muka One" 8.25 I had enough to where I skated it twice and it's getting donated.

same shit happened to me, but only on those decks that feel super solid if that makes sense. Bledsoe boards feel fine to me, but the Quasi can shape and the Al Davis one with his mom on it took some time getting use to
