How many hours a week do you skate? Around 10 at the moment considering I'm on uni break.

Your favorite shoes to skate in? Lakai Fremont, or Lakai staple

How long do your shoes last you? Under a month (with shoe goo) always, probably about 3 weeks usually. When the ollie area tears through to the sock I chuck em, I hate tearing socks. That, or if the sole near the heel of my back foot starts wearing away from  me using it to slow down.. I think it would be really bad for your feet to be skating/walking around in shoes that are uneven.

How old are you?
just turned 39
How many hours a week do you skate?
4-5? depending on family/ schedule etc.
Your favorite shoes to skate in?
At this point? Etnies Ryan Lay high tops, make sure you change out the insole in them. Honestly I'd rather be skating some Silas 1's but we all know about that broken record. Also have a pair of canvas state madisons in the mix
How long do your shoes last you?
Now that I'm old, quite a while actually. Maybe a year? I rotate my shoes too so I'm not always skating the one pair. The Ryan Lay's are actually super durable and hardly have any wear on the faux suede/ rubber area which is surprising because they basically look like a sk8 hi homage. Definitely a tough shoe though!

How old are you? 43

How many hours a week do you skate? 3-15. It's all over the place. Street and tranny.

Your favorite shoes to skate in? Old Skool Pros or Half-Cab Pros

How long do your shoes last you? Assuming no Vans QC failure, about two months before sole on ball of foot is toast.

Side Note: As a kid I owned one pair of shoes (usually Vans). Wore them to school, skating, and everywhere else, and I skated a LOT more then than I do now. As a adult, I only wear my skate shoes when actually skating. Despite getting far less use, my shoes wear out so much faster now than when I was kid. Why? Has QC gone that downhill? Is skating more abusive now than it used to be (e.g. moving feet around for flip tricks)? Etc.? Any other lifers noticed this, too?

I'm the opposite, I rotate a few pair of shoes and only wear them to skate in and they last me ages. Maybe take a break from vans for a bit (hard to do I know)? Having said that, the shoes that we used to skate in (I'm 39 so pretty similar) were built like tanks.

What are you rocking? IMHO, nothing has the board feel of vulc Vans. I grabbed a pair of Busenitz vulcs awhile ago...they were...not Vans.

Noted. I have a hard time with cupsole, though. Feels like wearing two condoms or something. And I always replace the Vans pros insoles with Kingfoams. Those things are unbelievable.

Short answer: yes.

Skate brand shoes have always sucked, but recent times have made it even more compromising. Vans has to spread themselves a bit thin compared to a couple of decades ago, when they were the biggest thing in the industry and didn't have the threat of sportswear brands outspending them. Now they have to skimp out on quality to make up for volume, it's essentially the same story with Lakai, Huf, DC, and any other "core" brand. They don't have many resources to draw from to put out greater quantities to keep up with the bigger companies without sacrificing somewhere, and quality control is the first thing they're willing to compromise.

As far as decks are concerned, that's kinda yes and no. There are still good decks produced now by certain wood shops who kick the shit out of those awful pieces of garbage World used to put out in the beginning, and companies like DSM and Chapman are producing arguably the best boards they've ever pressed right now. On the other hand, you have companies like Girl who've downgraded their wood quality in an attempt to spread themselves around thinly. Girl/ Chocolate boards were all I rode, right up until it was noticeable that they switched from PS Stix to that China garbage.

At least when you're a washed-out hipster douchebag in NY, you can milk it at some decent looking, hard to skate spots. In LA you're just a tan-lined faggot in a school yard somewhere.
