I actually prefer a "wide" setup; I've run variations on the theme but as of now prefer an 8.25 deck on 8.5 axles (Indy 149s).

Right now I'm on an 8.3 with 8.18" trucks and it's working killer.

8.1 board with 8.25 trucks. Just enough hang over to lock into everything.

I'm with you. Like an 8.1 with 8 trucks. I think once you get to .25" difference territory it's a bit much. Plus I'd rather my board take the abuse on messed up flip tricks than my axles.

The golden rule is keep it within 1/4" either way. Usually I go equal to or slightly wider but I've been messing around on wider boards with too narrow trucks recently. Currently 44s on a 9". Its tapered though so only the front looks fucked. Not something I plan on doing permanently but its strangely addicting.

I like the same or a truck slightly narrower. Been curious to try a big board with narrow trucks though. if memory serves me correctly, Reynolds spent a lot of years on 8.5-8.75 boards with regular-ass 129-139 indy's. Friggin magic carpet/hoverboard shit. Sounds like fun for some reason.

i've been skating 8.5/8.38s with thunder 147s but when i'm going to buy new trucks i'm getting 148s, they weren't making those when i bought my current set. i like my boards wider than the trucks

I feel pretty much the same way. My daily is always an 8.25" on 8.18" trucks. I have an 8.38" that I might try next.

For what's it worth, between reading up on other people's setups and doing quite a bit of my own research lately, I've found that the magic # is .325" for variance in widths...I've seen other people go wider/narrower in both directions..deck to axle and vice versa...but for me that seems to be the magic #. I've gone as narrow as an 8.375 deck on 8.75" axles (Indy 159s) and it worked well I thought...I've not gone past .25" in the other direction but I've seen others do it with success...so .325" seems to be it....

Just swapped out Thunder 149’s with wheel worn to <50 for Ace 55’s with 60’s on a 8.5. Looks like a bloody monster truck haha
