Bs Crooks issues
« on: February 24, 2018, 07:46:22 PM »
Started figuring out back crooks tonight, and i've already encountered a million issues. Sometimes i'll just smash my truck super hard into the ledge and my board will flip out. Other times i'll grind fine, then start to turn out and boardslide by accident. The picture shows the best i've done yet. All advice appreciated.

First off, don't call it a back crooks... that just sounds weird.

Don't have much advice, just do what I do...

Jack off, drink a sixer of IPA, whilst takin bong loads.

Maybe watch some yoga pants, asian, or latina porn to get motivated???

Somehow when I skate after doin these things I magically levitate up, grind it, then roll away into the sunset, go try it an see how it works out for ya.

Sounds like you're either coming in at too much of an angle or trying to tweak it too hard after you get on imo.  Try less angle and to just let it sit where it feels comfortable and ride it out

Jump out and INTO the grind, don’t just pop and immediately throw yourself onto the side of the ledge. Also you have to commit to standing on top of your trucks/the ledge, don’t just bonk your hanger on there without your weight pressed over it to power through the grinding

I'm not great at them or even like them but I find it easier to glide into it. Don't drop down into it, Ollie just high enough to get above it and push it. Anytime I Ollie above it and drop onto it I stick or go 2 inches then fakie.

Slide into it smooth like the DMs of a girl you might have a chance with

This is the big trick to landing it. You can get away with grinding it and having your weight off the side of the ledge but you'll never be able to come out. you've got to have your weight centered over the ledge or the rail, pushing your front foot in front of you to keep the grind going. if your weight is over to the side, your board will flip when you try to land.

Point with the side of your foot or your heal. If you point with your toe you are a fooked poosey.

get a good noseslide dialed in. knowing bs 5050 helps.

I bend my knees more, put my foot further back on the board than a noseslide to prep.
Unlike the noseslide, you can't just bash it on there and expect it to slide. to lock in is to get your lead foot's heel right above the angle iron. The art lies in getting your truck to lay perfectly along the grinding surface, in the crook position, no foot adjusting mid-slide, (the noseslide allows this, crooks dont.)

for exiting the grind, i found the best thing to do is learn the easy 180 out first, it's like a noseslide to fakie, and once you get used to that feeling of being centered over your bent truck & sliding to fakie, you will get bored and learn it to forward by default. Or you can pretzel whip it and get a cheap 270 out, which impresses people who aren't on Slap.
I got beef with Brian sumner and it’s onsite for that fat fucking red coat.

i find that getting into crooks is the easy part. they're like feebles - once you've gotten used to locking in, it's like a magnet pulling your trucks to the rail/ledge. i've given up on crooks, though. every time i try to hop out the board flips. the only way i can pull one off is grinding 'til the end. i don't understand how people pop/spring out of them. i've tried turning 90 and pulling it back straight and have landed a few that way. then i decided that i'll just go to fakie. rolled my ankle doing the easiest thing. i had front crooks for a week, though. maybe i'll try to get those down instead

Hard to describe how to do crook pop outs but I’d say you lock into the crook, then you lean back diagonally away from the ledge, and right after that you shove your front foot directly to the side. It’s not so much a full on nollie motion as it is more of a sideways shift, if that makes sense.

Those are more fun anyway. Did one first try on a curb rolling out of my hotel the other day and I was stoked.

I kinda suck at these now, but was one of the first ledge tricks I learned. Come up parallel if your not already. just focus on locking in correctly at first not even grinding, then gradually up the speed as you get confident locking in. Coming out is hard at first do whatever is easier for you at first (fakie or forward). Over time they get easier and you won't be even think hard about popping out. If all that fails, learn them switch ha, I'm better at switch ones than regular these days.

I was trying these last night and got a couple....the key I found is try to do crooks to nose slide... If you're anything like me, you don't have the precision and will never get to nose...but you end up just getting out.

It's weird balance of leaning back while applying pressure on the front foot simultaneously. Go fast and keep shoulders closed.

I've lost them. Tried 10-15 times or so today only locked in a few times didn't grind 1. very frustrating. But I can nollie in which is fun but I wanna spend some time on these and get them back. Fun trick think slappying into them has ruined my ability to pop in.
