Bearing covers on or off
« on: February 04, 2019, 07:53:09 AM »
I have bones swiss for about 5 years, i usually try to clean and lube them twice a year. Ive noticed some of the bearings are starting to slow down a bit. Any suggestions on how to keep them running smooth. Ive heard that popping the covers off. Anyone have suggestions ?

If a bearing is clean and spins without the shields of but are slow with shield on the shields are bent.

Either reform them or leave them of (try leaving the inside shields of first if that helps).

Conspiracy: bearing companies pay royalties to pros who remove or say they remove their shields so that everyday plebs destroy their bearings with increased promptness hence triggering their need to purchase a new set.

Why stop at the shields?

Remove 3 or 4 of the balls in the bearing. It saves on weight

People think I’m crazy but it’s rotational weight and very advanced physics that prove it’s actually better in every way. I expect after the olympics NHS will disclose this minimal bearing technology.

Covers off, for me.  It doesn't make them faster, that's a myth of course.  But, I like the way they sound and feel when they're a little crusty.

how do ball bearings work? lubed metal balls rolling in a circle around the inside of a metal ring. I know what would be great for these. I’ll take the unnecessary and silly shields off so excess dirt and shit get in them. that will surely help them roll better. a better idea has there ever been one? me thinks not.

I have found I got a new life out of popping off the shields. Maybe not faster, but certainly back to original glory (I believe they get faster). Never noticed an issue with them decaying any quicker with shields off either.
You know I thought these forums were a for skating not discussing fetishes

That's a wild Internet Conspiracy I can get behind.

i personally use the stock bearingless tech deck wheels. regular cleaning and lube keeps 'em rolling like new
