There are too many pros in the industry now and it’s not like other athletic careers when athletes just retire comfortably at a certain age.  Most of these pros don’t make as much money as you think so they try to hang on to that check as long as they can. Some of them got lucky and found jobs behind the scenes in the industry or started their own companies or took over companies that they rode for years. But others don’t have that opportunity, nor have a college degree or any other type of marketable skill that will help them in the ‘real world’ post skate career.  I bet a lot of them didn’t even think about that when they were young and starting.  People like Jeff Lenoce and Heath did it right.  Unless if you’re Nyjah, Sheckler, Tony Hawk, or Koston, you should either take some college courses on the side, go to trade school, and/or invest your money in an IRA or something.

The pensions people get in other "sports" are ridiculous.  Plus the guaranteed money.  In skating if you blow your knee our, you're done, unless people like you enough to keep you around and let you pack boxes or something.

Plus young skaters on the come up are encouraged to do some of the most dangerous stuff possible to, "Make a name for themselves" with little to no heath insurance.
[close]

Yeah the health insurance is a whole nother issue.  It must feel like complete shit when you worked so hard at fulfilling your dream at becoming pro and then blowing your ACL or something crazy like that.  I completely back companies like Girl that hang on to their riders when something like that happens.

My friend's brother in law was in the NFL for 6 seasons and probably made somewhere around $800,000 a year. Now at 32 he's got a pension (that I could probably live on) and health care in perpetuity. It's no comparison.

“Gino milking it” is an inside joke in the industry and it has nothing to do with skateboarding.

Dude got sponsored for skating quarter pipes.. hilarious. I remember him saying in a interview he didn't really care for being a sponsored skater though, and would rather model because there's more money.

That being said, he would be a serious contender for Woodward's Mano A Mano

I disagree.. he was killing it on all those Tony Hawk tours, you'd be crazy to say he was milking it.

I'd say he fell off around 2012

I saw Mike V skate a demo with Ed during the TV days and he killed it.  Just huge grabs every time over the pyramid going super fast. Ed had the tech going on.  Pretty weird but cool combo.

People think skaters on Nike or Adidas make crazy money, but the most random NBA/NFL/Soccer players no one has ever heard of who are endorsed by Nike/Adidas/Under Armour, etc. make way more off them than your favorite skater unless their Nyjah or Janoski.

He's put out a bunch of instagram clips at the same park with the same lines, but they're very basic. Flip trick before rail or ledge, not much else to it.

He's just saving all of his good clips for when he gets last part in Baker 4.

I was hyped Devine Calloway was skating again, was a fan in the early 00s but haven't seen anything worth a damn the whole time he's been on primitive (which I'm not a fan of either). I feel like almost every team has a milker.

Mike Mo anyone?
