Who's riding 80s / 90s style boards regularly?
« on: May 20, 2018, 06:35:47 AM »
I'm about to pull the trigger on a Blind Gonz Skull & Banana deck to ride, as i'm keen to ride a 90s style board again, & i'm thinking of also setting up a Natas reissue as a bowl carver with some 169s and Slime Balls.

Anyone else riding any reissue shapes?  Are you enjoying it or was it more of a curiosity?  I'm not too interested in looking down at a popsicle anymore as i'm just doing more riding and less flipping, so it'd be more fun to mess with different geometries and ride some old classics.

I’ve almost ridden the AH BA shape and the tired wandere shape more than popsicles. I really dig the coffin shapes with square tails.

How are the Tired boards?  I really like the look of the Wanderer shape.

I have the Natas Satan reissue and the one thing I'd say to watch is wheelbase....I don't know exactly what it is, but it feels like 14"-14.25  which is small and feels disproportionate.   You throw on bigger wheels and its a bit of a kooky set up.  I have the sluggo re-issue and it feels really nice.....I skate transition with it.  Wheelbase is bigger.

I exclusively skate the Polar P9 (Kevin Rodriguez) shape. It's only 8 5/8 at the widest and to me looks like a scaled down version of those early 90s boards like the Jason Lee Blind. Not exactly an 80s/90s shape but the look gets me stoked like that but it skates very functional to me.

I've ridden several Surprise decks over the last few years, but I bought a 101 Rodriguez and they sent a heat transfer instead of a screened one, so I'd really like to set that up.  But it's big, and I don't really dig the concave, but I'd like to give it a go anyway.

The Surprise deck I like is only $35 direct.  And it's screened.

I didn't know about Polar boards till recently, they look pretty sick! Yeah, i'm keen to ride one of these shapes without tiny tiny wheels and pants that blocked my view of the board...  I'm also stoked on old Dogtown Bigfoot shapes with 215s like these Gnar Cake boards that O makes.  They're so ridiculous it makes me wanna ride one.

Sorry about the giant pic.

I'm thinking of this one

which is 10.5 wide, 30.14 long & with a 15.375 wheelbase which is huge for such a short board, have always been curious to how they handle. Even looked weird in Natas' Wheels of Fire part.

I've got an older Scram board that I mess around on. It's fun, but every board I've seen with that style of shape is usually under 30 inches. It just feels weird to me. Also that dog town pic reminds me of a skim board.

I love those 90s shapes, I can only like wide boards if thief shaped, I hate wide popsicles they suck. I ridding zip zinger now though. Actually shaped boards all the way but not too shaped. I liked this one

that surprise board looks rad, who presses them and what are the dimensions?
I'm on an 8.25 popsicle at the moment but have one of these on ice:

Will probably set it up once rainy season is done.
Kinda want to give Mike V/ Street Plant some love too though...

Impish sausage is definitely gonna blow up as a euphemism this year

Danny at Factory 13 is making some pretty cool Street Plant boards, in addition to the regular lineup of pretty fun Mike V stuff

I'm riding this and it's my favorite shape of all time. nose and tail are nearly identical and it's slick.

im currently riding a polar 1991 shape. i really like the shape but it feels so long. im having a lot of trouble with it on mini ramps and have taken some gnarly slams because my trucks keep hanging up on certain lips tricks. i want to try the dane brady shape with a shorter wheel base to see if that makes a difference

I've been skating the AH Grosso 9.25 on and off for a few years. I go back and forth on either 159s or 169s. Long wheelbase but I'm old and 6' tall so it feels good on my mini-ramp, too.

I have a couple of shaped boards, I really enjoy them from time to time but I always go back to the popsicle. It's good to skate from the routine.

I'm looking forward to buy the big egg from Heroin, has anyone tried it? Looks really good

I haven't personally ridden it but I've seen it praised on the set-up thread a handful of times. Worth searching there.

This is the guy i'm getting.  Used to love my Blind boards in the 90s, so apparently it's the same shape & concave so we'll see how it goes.
9.88 wide
32.1 long
14.5 wheelbase
should be pretty spot on for me.
Apparently Gonz made it a point that they had to be USA made, does anyone know who made these boards?

Yeah that 1991 Polar board is really fun. I set one up and was using it at my friend's DIY indoor in the winter. Really fun ripper. One time I did a kickflip on it surprisingly easily. Must have just been on point that day haah. Now that it's summer I've thrown on my cruiser wheels and it's a goddamn good cruiser.

I picked up those re-issued Slimeballs but haven't yet set up my '80s board. Supposedly they use the same formula and same mold as the originals.

How are people attaching rails? I picked up some Rat-nuts since my board was drilled out for "rivets", but I remember that Rat-nuts also broke somewhat easily.

I'm just getting Rib Bones & using the screws and if they don't hold up i'll worry about it then.  Keen to hear how the slimeballs go, i'm eyeing some off.  Used to love them.

They’re great, I really love that shape, but I haven’t had much luck with their other shapes. The nose and tail are real mellow, which I like.
