Do you look down when you do switch tricks?
« on: May 17, 2018, 08:40:35 PM »
My sliding/flicking ankle has been hurting so i decided to try skating switch. I ended up did a few switch ollies over a water bottle and noticed that i tend to look down at the popping foot as i'm going over so i tried to look ahead and for a split second in the air i felt out of control, not being able to see the board clear the obstacle. Does anyone else have a similar experience? Is this just the nature of the switch stance?

I mean, do whatever works for you, but this is kinda interesting. I feel like most people look at the obstacle before and right as they pop, then shift their eyes to their board (front of the board or popping foot) as they travel over the obstacle. At least it seems that way in photos.

I find that if I snap a well-timed ollie, my eyes automatically shift to the grip. If I pop a little late or whatever, I'm usually looking forward/at the nose. Pretty much the same switch or regular.

This also reminds me of that Luis Tolentino advice to look "over/past" the obstacle rather than right at it for maximum pop.

I only skate switch on flat but I kinda just skate normally when I do my (two) tricks

I saw your mom do a ollie to cooch drop straight down the big black pole, it was gnarly. she defiantly shut that shit down.

depends on the trick and my comfort level with it, for switch heel or tre im looking down most of the time but for easier stuff like 180s or shuvits it doesnt matter
I can see why people think Slap is a bunch of retards; multiple people think Menikmati is the worst skate video of all time?

The buddy I skate with just told me yesterday that I look backwards when I switch ollie. Basically, I'm so used to doing nollies that I try to make my switch ollie feel the same.
