Thought it'd be tight to have a thread dedicated to the genre since I didn't see one. Big fan of the genre and love how it encompasses a wide range of bands, most of which are pretty obscure.
Stumbled across this album yesterday, 'Clown Pleaser' has been on repeat since

On a side note, are there any documented video parts of people skating to math rock? I feel like there's a massive untapped pool of songs that would be great in a skate video.

Really into math rock ! Discovered the genre few weeks ago (and I am 25... a little bit late to the party
Love Piglet

Arto skating to Battles in Mindfield is the closest thing I can think of.

It's about time you found out about these guys, Planman. They're from Chicago!

It's crazy to think how young these guys were when they made Spiderland.

Slint has been used a few times. There's gotta be some videos parts somewhere between 99 and the early 2000s that used stuff like this.

This song is nuts.

These guys seem pretty divisive, but I love them.
In the vein of American Football. Emo-ish math rock. Their guitarist is amazing too.

It's probably at least fair to say the bmx forums would have more threads about math rock than slap. I know that about math rock and also know it's got blink and bloop sounds.
-
Doesn't sound like you know much about anything.

Thanks for the Diagonah albums clamy! I'm about halfway through Battle Champions right now and I'm really liking it, reminds me a lot of Mineral.
Dilute album is great, I got my friend the Dilute/Hella live cd earlier this year bc she really likes them and put me onto it initially. Storm and Stress is great too, just listened to their first two albums recently.
Here's a couple more good ones:

Marty Anderson / Okay / Jacques Kopstein. been a fan since AH1, bought the Okay discography twice (once for me, one for a girl), all great stuff. Dilute was my introduction to math rock (not that I'm well versed in it). amazing songs on this album too. cool to see them get some love on here

I never knew Dilute had an album other than GBPSOG! I love that album, Sickroom blows my mind every time I hear it. Thanks, silhouette.

Duster is definitely not math rock, they're slowcore/space rock/indie rock mostly. +1 For loving Cap'n Jazz though

Always dug this band, kind of remind me a lot of American Football. Except without vocals.
Chon are another good math rock band, too.

Math Rock is great, led me to another weird genre of music I really enjoy, Midwest Emo

I really enjoy American Football, but Tiny Moving Parts I has been my favorite out of the bunch so far.

Marnie Stern is dope.

Nobody mentioning June of 44 makes me question this thread and I'm too stupid to know how to make a Youtube link post correctly, which isn't making things any better.

Came across this last night and listened to it twice in a row today. All the songs are great but especially the one or two with vocals.

My old band from high school/my late teens was ahead of the game on the midwest emo inspired shit, haha. We were called "oh my god elephant" (name changed to Rainbow Tornado for the 2nd release), we made tunes like 2005-2007. The craze seems to really have caught on a few years after that, dang it!
Anyhoo, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for math rock <3

Good shit, Chon is amazing! I listen to this along with a bunch of Clever Girl, Piglet, and a few others whenever I’m stuck in traffic and it keeps me calm through my commute.

Saw these guys at ATG. Incredibly tight live. Got a lot of love for this record and the second one.
Really happy to see Chon and Clever Girl mentioned.
Foal's first album is pretty math rocky.

Went into a rabbit hole of the old indy/emo/math rock stuff after a conversation with a friend about how I can't stand a lot of that scene anymore though I used to love it. This one still kills it for sure. Ghosts and Vodka might be one of the most underrated branches of the capnjazz tree.
