If there were any time for the Melvins to branch out into a more diverse fan base, it’s now. There is more diversity in people who listen to heavier music now than there was in the early 90s.

to each their own if you don't dig the music, but as far as heavy alternative rock goes they are very much "your favorite band's favorite band" kinda status. If you like any grunge/metal/sludge/prog band from the late 80's beyond, odds are they are taking some cues from the Melvins. They were freaks even by their peers' standards musically, and even 40 years after forming they still manage to sound fresh among a sea of Black Sabbath worship. And yeah, they are pretty incredible live. Worth seeing if you ever have even a passing interest. It's fine if you don't know the songs.



I'm not sure what tracks you've tried, but I'll just leave this 2011 set they did. In my opinion one of the highest points of their career, and that's almost 30 years into being a band.

I played with the Melvins once and got roasted.
Backstage King Buzzo was making fun of me because he thought I looked like "a wannabe bodyguard in a doom band!".

Good times though, they were all really really funny.

I once saw buzzo when I was between shifts working at a restaurant. He had a show nearby and we were walking to the same Safeway. I saw him from across the street and waved, he smiled and I saw his gold (silver?) tooth shining from across the street. I went over to his side and he asked ”you coming to the show?” I said I have to work a double shift and he said something to the effect of “get that money.” We both went into the store and parted ways, it was a trip lol.

They play their asses off live. Buzz and Dale have a sync that is pretty phenomenal to hear them play together.

Their live shows with Big Business are booming and massive.
