Syd Barret is for sure in my top 10 musicians of all time. I wouldn't say all of his work was psych though.
-
Nick Nicely is good for some post '60s stuff.

see, that's funny because i was going to list comets on fire instead of six organs but, i like six organs way better. ben chasney is a genius though, whatever genre.

I'm suprised nobody's said 13th Floor Elevators.
-
I'm suprised nobody's said 13th Floor Elevators.
I'm not. Elevators are good but most people equate psych with the trippier, mellow stoner type stuff or more spacey proggy stuff. I guess I only say that because I see all of these music magazines that say "Psychedelic Issue" and all it is is a picture of Jimi Hendrix and then ten pages about Hawkwind.
-
grateful dead 1965-1972 were possibly the greatest psychedelic blues band.
syd barret was pretty nutty, good stuff when more bluesy, but got a little too bouncy for me
even phish was fun, go see them play and eat a few tabs, mmmmm! otherwise, they're not that great.....
-
ha, that's pretty funny considering your taste in music.
-
syd barrett
its awfully considerate of you to think of me here, and I'm most obliged of you for makin it clear that I'm not here
-
i borrowed this obscure compilation called 'my mind goes high-psychedelic pop nuggets from the WEA vaults' from the library.it's pretty good, im especially feeling a song called man of straw by john wonderling.

ok well then tell me what my taste is, if it's so in tune with the crappy ass grateful dead and even worse phish
don't act like i would have no idea what your taste is when music is pretty much all you talk about here. i was just saying some of the music you listen to could be considered really boring, too.

Check out:
Gandalf
Chocolate watch band
brian jonestown massacre
the dilletantes
witchcraft
dead meadow
and check any of the nuggets compilations, most of them are pretty solid
-
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jefferson Airplane yet.
-
chocolat watch band is good
-
Word.
Captain beefheart is also rad.
-
i don't "keep tabs on" you. you post here, of course i read it. i was just wondering what the point of calling someone out for listening to the dead in a "psychedelia" thread was.
-
The three greatest things ever: 1. Zombies 2. Robots 3. Now normally I would say Ninjas or Pirates, because they are both awesome, yet entirely over done, so now it is a tie between Egyptian Things and Vikings. I am also a fan of swords and hamburgers.
man thats so random

I don't feel the need to earn points with kids I already dislike to some degree by posting a big list of bands.

word, crossfire did a radio show on the nuggets compilations here (http://www.caughtinthecrossfire.com/radio/punk/1652). It's a good listen, lot's of good stuff.
-
good modern stuff = el goodo, apples in stereo, of montreal (adhilis aboretum (sp?))
-
beasties are pretty dope when you're tripping too. especially in a hooked up system, there are all kinds of random ass beats coming from here and there.
-
loud wizard's post is so on point.
-
never thought about the tripping to the Beasties idea....there is some shit that's on Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head that would be fucking ridiculous
We used to party to the beasties non stop when Check Your Head was out. I remember hearing a kid a few years ago say something like "man I hope they don't play something lame like the beastie boys" and thinking, wow, I'm that old.

i think raga, indian, and middle eastern influenced music definitely would fall under "pyschedelic" more than almost anything else.
-
music with sitars drums and whirling woodwind instruments, like middle eastern music is pretty trippy. hinustani/hashish based melodies... great stuff. Pauls Boutique is through the roof when you're sack is in your head, flute loop, the chant... wheeeweee, man even though you said you're 40, cop some mushrooms and throw that record on! hahaha Paul butterfield blues band is great, super session.......

I get stoned to this Ravi Shankir and Philip Glass CD I've got quite alot.
One time while we were getting stoned we poured a bag of grass seeds on the floor to make it look like sand.
My buddy passed out from too much smoke and woke up surrounded by sand with Ravi Shankir live playing on the stereo.
I can only imagine how he felt.

Funny seeing this again. I started this thread with my old account but I don't remember half of the posts in here. Dudestoffersons recomendations have indeed stood the test of time.
I was listening to that USA album yesterday. I think coming down may actually be the best psychedelic rock song ever.
Edit: except for venus in furs.

The leader of the group and driving creative force behind this album (Spider Barbour) lives right next to me. I always thought he was some sketchy Charles Manson look-a-like but it turns out he was a member of Mothers Of Invention for quite some time. The man is a mad genius similiar to that of Roky Erickson, someone who never quite got their due from music. Listen

I saw that this album came out today so I put it on for background music while I was cleaning my house and had to stop during the first song (this one) to check if it was actually as good as I thought it was. I had no expectations going into, wasn't anticipating it at all, but I comfortable calling the album an instant psych rock classic.

That Mainliner album posted above fucking rules. Was gonna ask if anybody was into the PSF Label stuff... like Mainliner, High Rise, Fushitsusha and Keiji Heino? That stuff can get heavy and experimental but still very psych.
They also put out the Acid Mothers Temple, which is psychedelic as fuck.
Of course, it all stems from this:

Saw Kikagaku Moyo on Friday and it wasn't a good as I was expecting. I think the acoustic breaks/parts threw me out of my "zone"
Also, just got the repress of Popera Cosmic on finders Keepers, often considered as first psychedelic French release. It's a one of a kind weird opera rock, for those who are into Magma

I went to Austyn Psych Fest in 2014 and king gizzard played their epic “head on/pill. I’d never heard of them before and it had a big impact on me. This is the most psychedelic song in my mind.

Psicomagia from San Diego dropped this stellar album in 2013. I was introduced to it through Jon Dickson's part in Emerica's Made 2 which is still not on Youtube. This album is amazing, from the flutes and horns to the mellotron to the vocal incantations in Spanish. Gold from start to finish

Just got this one on vinyl, a side project of Jon Anderson from Yes. Very psych-prog rock.
the artworks on the inner sleeves and insert are really great, reminds me of Arik Roper in a way.

This album is a lofi-psych masterpiece imo. If you ever stumble upon a copy of Stumpy... buy it. It’s magical from beginning to end. ”Up” is the last track on it and is quietly epic.

I know just posted about Gunk, but fuck I kept listening to their Self Titled release from years ago and would feel remorse if I did not include a psychedelic track or two. If you’re into bummer, lo-fi, experimental, psychedelic, punk. Check it out. From Philly. If you like it, listen to the whole S.T. from beginning to end. You’ll see.

NTS must be sweet, which station do you listen to exactly for random 60's/70's gems like that?
and sounds good man, let's swap some stuff. I'll PM you some links
-
fuck it ill post some here and pm you some more @habby
first things first ive said it many times before, i use mixcloud for most of my listening. although you can stream from their website, it functions best as an app, ad free, doesnt cost me a dime. you can search for tags or artists or mix names or dj names. from there its a bit like a social network, you can follow djs/artists (shoutout @GAY & @cricketclub )and see what theyve liked, reposted or listened to. some artists will list tracknames, others will post links to websites with tracklisting, some dont give any info.
some of my favorites in the psych zone:
https://reverberationradio.com/ -you can listen from their website too, all tracks listed. incredible mixes
humdrumhippies
psychedelicjukeboxx
from there i just look up their respective listens and reposts and likes or suggested mixes.
of course you can wade through the waters of youtube and find some good channels too but perhaps thats another thread

I've listened to the Grateful Dead more than anything else over the past 18 years. Lysergic music. Not even taking into consideration Hunter's early lyrics and mythology (St. Stephen, the eleven, mountains of the moon, China Cat Sunflower), they mastered throwing you onto the deepest rings of the universe and bringing you right back to ground. 100mics and get some
