I think if you’re a venture low person and are looking at a 2024 alternative, it’s a 147….

Tons of people quietly love their thunders….they just never been marketed well, but they don’t need to.  In the late 90’s into the 2000’s they gained more market share than anyone else…..

Why do i feel it was in the 2000s when they became popular. Kids picked them up cause their was 3 or 4 graphic thunders per drop, they were the lightest truck at the time and were cheaper than indys. I would go to any shop here and they would sell you thunders cheaper than indys.

I love thunders, but I'm 230 pounds and when i do flip tricks i tend to lean a lot on the way I'm going to rotate, doing this makes my thunders turn and my fs 180 flips end up looking like 130° flips. Coincidentally my best fs has been on Thunders but i have to make the effort to not lean too much. It's on me not the trucks. I love how they skate though.

Venture lows don't turn as much so i could do the lean thing with out turning my fs flip to 130 fs flip. I don't know if it makes sense.

Also, I noticed thunder base plates dig into the board more than ventures. Easy fix. Just rounding off the baseplate a bit with a file or left over black magic grip ;)

PJ Ladd has been skating Thunders lately. You can see on his story.

Saw in a couple weeks ago (in person) riding Vents.  /shrug

(we were the only two people at this spot - and it's mostly flat and curbs; dude's super nice and we all know this, but his flat game is just so insane  :o

Anyone else notice how thunder and venture got rid of their team pages? No longer can see it from the menus on the site, but still accessible if you put /team at the end of the URL

Does Thunder make a bushing softer than the stock ones?

No they do not. 90du is as low as they make which is what they allegedly come with.

I've DM'ed PJ a few times and he always responds. He said he's trying out Thunder 147 and 148 lights. I'm not sure if he was actually on the Venture team page or just rode them out of habit. Considering Thunder 147 are lower they probably get him closer to where he wants to be. I've noticed a few Venture Lo pros now riding forged highs so maybe inventory and production is low.

I will also say, that I've put the white 90du bushing in a few sets of thunders and they feel significantly softer than the stock clear/blue bushings.

I agree, I have felt the same way. It’s why I said allegedly 90du.

They actually feel so different. I find as much difference from medium ace to hard ace than from red 90d thunder to blue stock thunder 90d. Sorry if my English don’t make any sense

You made total sense and your comparison is spot on.

Rode my thunders (Team Hollow 148s) today with the black 100s. Tempted to drop back to the 97s and forged plates just to see....there was a few times I had to jump off because I couldn't front foot steer.

Also tried some stock cast Ventures...that was very short lived.

Do some Thunder Team models have more / less grind clearance than others? I am on my 2nd set and it feels like my first set was slightly less meaty. They are both 148s.

One difference is first set is raw finish where the 2nd is polished. Doesn’t look like much from the picture but they seem slightly beefier to me. Wish I would have weighed them first

I would think not, but it is much the same as when people get new bushings / new trucks, so to compare them to the older ones, things just feel different and look different, or even skate different as well.

Going back many years, I had some raw versions that did skate differently to the polished trucks, but as to the mold being any different, I don't think so, but who knows?!?

There can definitely be differences in bushings, so even to have the nut down half a turn more, you would have better clearance than the kingpin nut up and off a bit - clearance being the main thing I notice a lot on Thunder trucks, compared to some others, like Venture stock, or Indy after I have cut down the kingpin a bit.

Some good wear on the old set there too!!

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I’m on forged 151 and 97 and these feel stable while still getting that Thunder responsiveness.

Dipped back to the 97a bushings, wheelbite everywhere. Back to the black 100a!
