Whatevers clever man. Post up. I seen some pretty amazing stuff on iPhones within the past years. Not totally par with DSLRs but definitely with point and shoots.

I started a new job in August and a startup package just came through allotting $1600 for a DSLR body/lens. Any recommendations? I've gone numb reading reviews online.
[close]

what are you going to be using it for?
[close]

Documenting my work--shooting photos possibly for publication. I work doing local food production/urban agriculture stuff. Camera bodies seem fairly straight forward but I really want a good versatile lens.

I'm thinking of getting this lens:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/12140-USA/Canon_2515A003_50mm_f_1_4_USM_Autofocus.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw06GfBRCR9tDI4t6n5_MBEiQAFo6kuDaSqb5VgOrqqrk8bz8PhKK8TF-Mdg9Zsnv0tp9sjg0aAs8P8P8HAQ

And this body/lens:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital-3-0-Inch-18-135mm-Standard/dp/B0040JHVC2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1407821979&sr=8-2&keywords=canon+60d

I'd love feedback though.
I just bought the 50mm 1.4 for my 7D and i'm pretty stoked on it. Had the 1.8II before cause it was cheaper and i wasn't quite sure if prime lenses are my cup of tea. But nowadays i mostly use the 1.4 for whatever im shooting. Really depends on what you want to shoot. I haven't used a 60D ever, but its probably a good choice. Do you wanna shoot skating? Sequences?

definitely. some guy i follow on tumblr just created an app that lets you shoot photos with your iphone in a "manual" mode, so you can select your own iso/shutter speed/white balance. its only $2 which seems worth it to me, but i dont have enough space on my phone to download the new ios so i havent tried it out. might be handy if you shoot with your phone a lot.

^^^I saw that. Hopefully people can get some cool night photos cause the auto ISO is what really kills the iphone. Will download that soon.

Open the sd card with a sharp knife and try to let it dry. It should work, it's quite robust. A friend of mine had his sd card spend a whole night in a puddle and managed to get back all of the photos. I wouldn't trust the card after that though, just copy the pictures (if you can) and buy a new one.

Got it this time.

And somehow this came back as one of the digital prints. Not sure why it was cropped like this, but it looks cool, so...?

DMH, that first one is striking; I like it.

nice stuff DMH! everything looks awesome.

heres some shots i took with a stylus epic. i dropped it right after i got it and i mustve fucked up the seals because everything after my first roll i shot has gnarly light leaks. it was kind of a bummer because everything that i purposely composed on the left side of the frame got fucked up. i threw some electrical tape on where i think the light is getting through so hopefully it helps. anyways, here are a few shots that i thought didnt get totally fucked up.

I just bought my first digital camera - a used Canon 7D. Anyone have experience with zoom lenses, thinking about either Canon EF-S 15-85/3.5-5.6 or Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM. Thanks bros  :).

before getting rid of all my zoom lenses, i had the 7D and the 15-85, and i was quite happy with it. price/range/image quality is great, and the 15mm compared to 24mm on the wide end leave you with a lot more possibilities..

If you want something really wide, there is a 10-18mm that is a good price. Not the fastest lens but good nonetheless and good for a crop body.

There is also a new 24mm pancake lens as well. Good price if you want yet another wide angle lens:

shot this on my way home from a wedding in the north of finland at roughly 4 a.m.
didnt think too much of it, freehand shot, not too much colorful stuff going on.

then, 2 months later, i decided to try and convert it to black and white, and suddenly i really liked it. another case of "if it sucks, convert it to black and white."

also, i love the alf picture JB!

That's definitely one of my favorites of yours Cadillac. I imagine you shouldn't have any trouble selling a good sized print of that.

I really dig the one above it too.

I didn't mention it before, but those bridge shots are really awesome bullet. Great timing.

Everyone's stuff is seriously awesome. I get a lot of inspiration from the stuff you guys shoot. Definitely makes me want to try harder.
