!!!

Dude, that is perfect.

Yeah this is on Oahu, on top of diamond head.
Thanks dude! I'm really stoked on that black and white photo, never seen it photographed from that angle. We had to make our own trail straight up the crater and then walk on the ridge with big drops on the side, was so rad.

Haha thanks. I'm still in love with that camera, I've just been trying to shoot a lot of black and white so I can possibly include some more shots in an upcoming exhibition. I should have a good amount of digital work to post soon from the newspaper.

You've been killing it with your skate and concert photos, by the way!

Here's something I've been getting into lately. Doing gif from gifs from sequences shot at concerts.
Here's my two best thus far.

The first one is a Danish punk band called Commie Cowboys, second is a band from Black Country, UK. They're called God Damn! and here they're playing at a festival in Denmark.

I dig the gifs, especially the first one! Matze's shots fantastic as always...

Went out and had a good time. Unfortunately once again only a few were acceptable...

It depends on quite a few factors but shutter speed wise I would say 1/500 at least if the board flips, 1/250 should be ok with some sort of ollie.

^^^^I would shoot manual but of course you have to know how to shoot manual to make it work to it's full potential. If you don't action is sort of just a auto version but even on that mode, the camera can get it wrong. As far as settings, it really depends on the conditions of where you are shooting and what lens you have. I would shoot in as much light as possible. Aperture depends on what look you want in your photo (depth of field vs all in focus) but shooting open is always a challenge to nail your subject matter right. I would shoot like f/3.5 or so. Shutter again depends on the amount of light where you are shooting but shoot shoot the highest you can. ISO....I would stick no to pretty moderate level. Definitely not at a 1000 but maybe 600 or so. Your photos might suffer since you are only dealing with 6mp.

That's my opinion anyways. Maybe some other folks can share some other tips.

Very helpful, thank you. I'm going to Oakland and it's overcast today with a nice flat light. One more quick question. Should I always shoot on raw?

Edit: oh and the lens I got is wide angle 24-120mm

yes, always shoot raw. so much more potential for post processing.
if you arent used to process raw files, go for jpeg+raw, so you have something to fall back to if you dont like your editing.

but just go out  and shoot, youll learn so much stuff along the way. and if a photo sucks, you can always use my fool-proof method: convert it to black and white and call it art.

Yup.....like Herc said, I would shoot raw but you would need the right software to open them up though. You'll get more details in your photos in post. The only downside would be when shooting burst shots but I doubt you are shooting sequences with your camera since it's 3 fps.

That lens should be good and it has VR which will help since you are shooting handheld. Just shoot open at f/4.
