Ishod, every year.

I'm still butt-hurt Louie didn't win 2017. The west end part was amazing.

I see the Ishod comments but that leads me to a point they couldn't give Rodney Mullen Soty because he won everything else

Also, David Gonzalez was a terrible pick. All I can tell you about this dude is that he has a fetish for rock and roll and he sticks his tongue out a lot. Couldn't tell you anything about his skating.

Jerry should have gotten it. And for good measure, fuck Emerica for dropping him.

“I don’t know anything about his skating but fuck him for SOTY”

Just doesn't stand out, sorry. There's no shortage of skill these days, or even then. When I think of him I think of him falling down El Toro, playing guitar, and sticking his tongue out. Real cool. Please enlighten me.

There are dudes I don't like that I know a bunch about. Motherfucking Nyjah 5/0 on the round rail with the kink. Jesus Christ. Kyle Walker surfing those insane rails. David Loy dancing in Nyjah's with Sinner.

I know things.

The award is silly anyway because people like SBN have won it

This is a just a shit take. Silas absolutely ripped through 2006-2008 so wrapping up with SOTY 2008 was appropriate. Who else do you think should have won it?

Ryan Sheckler ripped that year too with Superfuture, Bust or Bail and Slaughter at the Opera House but he was also in full-blown MTV Life of Ryan mode so "core" skaters brushed him aside.

Maybe David Gravette, but who knows if Phelps really counts the Transworld videos (And Now).

As someone who isn’t a huge SBN fan I actually like that he won because he’s one of the very few winners out of Thrasher’s comfort zone. I don’t even know what he did that year but I’ll pretend it was for his Away Days part, which was the highlight of that video and no one has ever mentioned it since the month it was released.

Holy shit dude what drugs are you on? You are on the internet obviously. There is a this thing called Google. You could easily look up the year Silas won (2008) and the year Away Days was released (2016) and then realize you are about 8 years off. Good thing you are not old enough to vote.

Shit, SBN continues to prove time and time again that he fucking rips at everything. He was the standout that year and I'm glad he got picked. It also showed you didn't have to be the biggest name to get it. You just had to skate at that level.

The idea that he ripped the hardest that year or any year is laughable

he’s a perfectly adequate skater

should be nowhere near SOTY, just like Daveed

SOTY is a stupid award just like the TheBerrics Year Award. Your votes don't count and its just a way to get more traction and run more ads for their company. Brainless sheep, stop taking this thread so seriously

I guess Jerry wasn't thrasher enough. His SOTY trip would've been awesome but pretty weird for thrasher. Then again SBN was even less hellride. Anyone know who went on his SOTY trip?

I know right? It’s a fairly simple question- who won SOTY for a year that wasn’t their best? But people turned it into “which skater should have won over someone else?” Which has been gone over like a million times

Silas deserved that shit. Same with David G. "Possessed to Skate" is a lame ass title, but u cant deny dude killed it.

I get why they get the hate tho. Up until that point it was like a legends only club...Reynolds, Rowley,Hawk, Arto, BA, Koston, Bob, Dway, etc.

Silas and David def earned that shit tho, but i think David g gets the most hate.

I wanna say dude got on flip maybe 04/05 and I remember watching him in those F'east videos( anyone remember those?) skating w all the sorry guys and I thought he fit right in. Natural talent. Some what of a Rowley protege to an extent. As he grew up he kinda went overboard with the rock n roller persona (imo) but his skating was always next level. I honestly enjoyed him more as a kid, had more "class" to his skating.

Also.....does anyone remember the 03 SOTY Issue. They had the Appleyard interview, a list of Pros who never won in the past but should/could of, and then a list they called "The Heavies". Guys who they predicted would win in the future.

First list was

Gonz
Muska
Penny
JT

"The Heavies" were

Jerry Hsu
Bastien
Then like 2 other dudes. Does anyone remember who they were? I wana say Cole & maybe Busenitz??

It was the 2005 issue, with the Danny Way SOTY retrospect. The "heavies" were Bastien, P-Rod, Zered, Chris Cole, Darrell Stanton, and maybe someone else I can't remember. Jerry Hsu wasn't included.

Also, it was Pat Duffy, not Tom Penny.

Ok bet, Duffy but no Penny, alright. Heath?

That heavies list is/was Dope and i do remember darrell being in it, but i swear jerry and bastien were on that list the same year. Jerry had a back noseblunt foto that ended up in bag of suck.  Pretty sure Busenitz was on it  too.

Also...to answer the original question of the thread, my initial thought was AVE, but "Jerrys Kid" pushed me towards team Tony '99.

I know this isn't really related to the topic thread, but since everyone is mentioning Jerry...

I love Jerry Hsu as much as the next guy, but if he won in 2006, then SOTY should just rename itself to Video Part of the Year because Jerry didn't do jack shit besides film for Bag of Suck. It was one of the greatest parts of all time, but the dude said himself that he only skated weekends leading up to the video drop and completely stopped skating after the part came out.

In 2006, Daewon put out his ender in Skate More, put out Almost Cheese and Crackers, and had a part in Get Familiar, all less than 2 years after he had the last part in Almost Round 3. Each of which involved a completely different style of skating.

Now it's common for guys to put out multiple parts in a year, but it was unheard of back in 06.

Which SOTYs had a better year than the year they won SOTY? Maybe there year where they threw down harder than the year they won SOTY but someone threw down even harder, kinda like Suciugate.

 ::)

Anyways, I wasn’t around back then but Carroll’s Goldfish part is not as memorable compared to questionable, modus, yeah right, or fully flared. I could be way off base here but why did he win in 94?

Also did Cardiel have a noteworthy part in 92? I mean he’s probably just always killed it, but it seemed like he was was on a tear when I started skating from 2000 to his injury.
