Just reading this makes me want to try this Krooked 9.81” shaped deck. I already have the ACE AF1 66’s (9” width, those are the ones you’re using, right?) and use them without risers and Spitfire F4 55mm Classics. Sounds like a fun set-up (my main deck is the Real/Krooked 8.3” Twin Tail Slick)

Yup, I'm on the AF1 66's.

I'd say go for it, it's a really functional shape. I'm on the shorter side (5'6" with around a 26-26" inseam) and have found that boards around 32" long with a 14.25-14.375" wheelbase "fit" me the best. I've been skating larger boards for years with varying widths/lengths/wheelbases and never went for this shape because I've had an OCD thing about being able to look down at the board rails and see axle nuts, but when I skated my friend's setup I fell in love with the shape and I'm now 2 months in on this shape and like it so much I could give two fucks about not seeing my front wheels. I have not felt this consistent on a board in years and I started getting back tricks I thought I had lost for good as well as learning a bunch of new stuff within the first few days on it. I tailblock a lot and the tail shape is great for that and the board gets wide enough in the front that even with the partial numbness I have in my legs and feet I don't really ever feel like I'm "losing" the board mid-trick. I also feel like the length/wheelbase keeps it feeling pretty responsive for a board this big, especially when paired with the AF1's. I haven't skated an actual vert ramp with it yet, but I can say it works universally well for me for the stuff I normally skate and that's a first for me. Over the past few years, I've had setups that feel great in my driveway (2.5' quarter) but absolutely awful when I skate anything over 6' on them (or vice versa) and honestly this has been comfortable on everything I've skated on it thus far. I'll be crushed if they ever go extinct because I have not ever been this content with a setup lol

5 sessions in I'm liking them, they ride closer to a Formula 4 99 a wheel then say a X formula wheel. They don't feel like a cruiser wheel at all but definitely not a super hard ride either. They slide good but need to be broken in. Hope this helps.

  • Krooked Family Affair 9.81"x32" w/ 14.37" wb
  • Ace AF1 Hollow 66's (Ace 91a top bushings as tops/bottoms)
  • Ace 7/8" Allen hardware

Been toying with the idea of going back to a 8.25 for a minute.
So I set up this Girl Griffin Gass. It’s 8.25 but tapers down to 8 at the tail. Pretty interesting shape. It’s pretty mellow compared to the DLX #1 stamped boards I prefer.

Same stuff as last one
Venture Throws
Sml wheels
Quantum Atoms
Jessup ultra
Bender Allen
We’ll see how she flips…

I saw the Venture throws logo in an 80s ad in Thrasher and wondered why the hell they weren't using it now. So good...

Update: This board is excellent. I wish it was a 14.25” wheelbase but overall it’s a great shape if you’re looking for a smaller egg.  I put the loose truck conversion kit bushings in the Venture lows and the turning is completely okay.  Some wheelbite though but it’s not horrible with 52’s.

It’s why I looked for the misregistered eagle graphic in this shape.

Fun fact, Una’s new Krooked board is this shape too.

7.75 Prime blank
Stage 9 Indy 139 w Krux IKPs
51mm 99a Spitfire classics
Black Magic.

Haven’t rode a deck this size since I started skating in 99. Got inspired from the 7.75 thread. Everything sans the wheels was my first setup, call me nostalgic.

Impressed with Prime’s blanks. Three colored veneers look like candy. Thought it was gonna be a pink bottom stain, universe treated me with Orange.
