Hahahaha alex olsen is an idiot. Glad hes voicing his opinion though, he has every right to.

Leetgeek calm down man, calling out the littlest bullshit and calling it racist must be exhausting

Ive been called a wigger before, and a skatefag and all the other shit skaters deal with. Kinda scared me when I was maybe 12.

As an adult I dont go sit in a corner and try to think up everywhich way what was said to me was wrong. I just carry on because IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER WHAT SOME IDIOT SAYS TO ME.

And I dont feel repressed or threatened in any way.

This whole trump thing is gonna skyrocket the sales of tampons because alot of cunts are bleeding over some trivial bullshit.

No, it's exhausting to deal with people with no reasoning skills and no perspective outside of their own alarmingly narrow experience. Even when things are plainly explained to them, their reaction is to get defensive and say it's somebody else's problem. Now we have a president elect that reflects that and I'll have to constantly hear/see him on all media for at least the next 4 years. I won't calm down. I can't calm down, and neither should any of you.
to me using wigger is like a black person calling another black person oreo. one race making fun of their own race for acting like another, nothing more. when snoop and chapelle do whiteface they act and talk nerdy as fuck (there is a history behind black face blah blah blah I KNOW) which is insulting,  but we just don't give a fuck about it. you look too far into things because you are insecure. now get over it, and go lose that virginity you curmudgeon

Imply whatever makes you feel better dood.

We have our own issues as indeiginous people.

Go to the source. Government, media etc.

Im not suppressing you, your shitty officials are.

So go ahead, get real mad if ya want to. Just direct it at the right people. Otherwise you're just perpetuating the same shit onto others thats been done to you

See this is where having this conversation over the internet gets tricky. Are you native? If so I'm doubly shocked by your indifference to term that reinforce negative stereotypes even if they are second hand by nature. If someone said something insensitive about your culture should you just shake it of or should you take a minute out of your day to enlighten them a little?

Happens often, I just dont let it get to me.

We teach and talk to people all the time about the issues. Its not whitey holding us down, its those in power.

Government and those above government love to divide people.

But we are skateboarders too. Ive never, ever had an issue with a skater. Ive slept on couches all over the place on skate missions, and vice versa. Skaters imo are super amazing humans in our lil circle. If only we and others were always like that.

Anyhow, indiginous have it super bad in many areas, same with other races or religions. So i certainly can understand. But real big issues make me insentitive to the lil shit.

There is amazing people all over the place. That I know.

And if any pals rolled through Id no doubt offer up my couch/floor and camper to help on your travels. Its always sick skating with people from around the globe.

Anyone see this?
Khakis putting the blame on the democratic party for ripping out plaza's. Is he low key telling us he voted for Trump?

[close]

i love Khakis, but that instagram post is so ignorant and makes absolutely no sense. Do you really think that the cops kicking us out of spots and beating us up are Democrats? gimme a fucking break. Lets see how well destruction of public property by a bunch of young adults on toys goes over in Trump's America.
[close]

from what I could tell in SF has had some hatred toward skateboarding...back in the late 90's i could remember spending half the night avoiding cops and or getting ran out by cops.  Once Union Square was gone I knew EMB was to follow...

I always figured it was due to tourists that SF remodeled and knobed EMB/Pier/ and Union Sq. not political party motives
[close]

I'll tell you this.. after dealing with a few different cities governments in depth... sitting at the round table with all city council members with attorneys and all that, day after day,
Everything is political party moves. No lie. Everything from who gets the bid, who gets the credit, everything. Politics suck. Thats my position.

I also disagree with shaming someone for their political stance. Nobody should ever be ashamed of a political outcome. You vote for what you believe... they vote for what they believe.. thats it.
My pops is republican, my aunt is democratic. My wife would lean Liberal, my brother is more socialist, they are all over the map. We talk shit... and debate.. but at the end of the day, we all have the same goal. To live happily and in peace.

I've only worked on skatepark committees on a grassroots level (much different than public spaces not meant for skateboarding). Looking back, our initial supporters were Republicans who wanted us off the street and into parks to support a law and order philosophy. It scared the shit out of us because we thought the next step was making it illegal, but things looked grim and we went with it anyway.

These days, all the city council members are Democrats and skate plazas are financed by taxing developers (Quimby funds). Our first public meetings in the '80s were filled with mostly hateful comments and almost nobody wanted to touch it, but now politicians see plazas as another project to put on their resumes.

Damn totally missed all this, conspiracy I guess, that members of the democratic party are responsible for shutting down street skateboarding in general or just those two specific plazas? And the demolition job is tied to the Clintons or they are just friends with those mayors? Don't skate spots get shut down in other countries? Is that the democratic party too?

Love Park getting shut down was pretty well documented there's a few threads too if I'm not mistaken. I'm really curious now about the details. Does that mean there were Republicans opposed to shutting it down?

Politics definitely has a role because both parties have different opinions on public land use, criminal justice, illegal drugs, the homeless, etc...

Are way of thinking is completely abstract because we look at a plaza as a canvas for creativity, completely left field than what government officials look at a plaza for.

As skateboarders we all want skateboarding to not be a crime, so now I'm really intrigued is that a left or right type of viewpoint?

ETA:
Skateboarding is in the Olympics, it's on TV and other forms of media a lot more now, lots of skate parks are popping up, tons more girl skateboarders, an openly gay pro, international skating has grown a lot, and this has all happened with a liberal-democratic President for the past 8 years. I have no idea if the policies President Barack Obama put into law trickled down to our industry to create growth or not? Maybe legalizing gay-marriage for Brian Anderson but the other topics I'm not sure? That is pretty interesting to think about.

I'm pretty sure I read President Donald Trump wants to invest more into the Police which won't help us and he has shared a lot of hatred towards specific groups of people where in skateboarding we have always celebrated diversity.

I could see some right-wingers see skateboarding as a means to gentrify neighborhoods. I guess there could be some behind the scenes "invisible hand" of the government at work here. Is it a coincidence that M. Justin Herman (EMB's namesake) displaced thousands of poor people, at the behest of the wealthy, to redevelop San Francisco? Did he know that Gonz would one day ollie the Gonz Gap?
