In a roast battle, whenever you show that you're angry or you get super insecure and defensive, you automatically lose. Richie could've just shrugged it off and replied with some smart ass response and called it a day, especially for something like this that seems pretty trivial to be bummed about, but instead, that happened. Its obvious that brad and the bunch aren't taking this seriously at all no matter what Richie responds with.
Also, did zared just insinuate that he was going to fight Richie next time they run into each other? Oh Instagram, to be a spectator in your world is the greatest thing.

It's a shame Jack Curtin is on Skate Mental.
I got to skate with Dan at our local DIY a few weeks ago and it was one of the most enjoyable sessions I've had to date. Dude is fun to skate with and good energy. Helps that he's a bit of a local legend for us, but I admit I'm still not really interested in buying a Skate Mental board just because his name is on it.

It's childish, but I back Dan Plunkett on this. His footage is good and I really liked his "Part about nothing" part. Richie always comes off as having a superinflated sense of self and is famous for mostly doing circus tricks (not that he can't do some legit crazy shit like a 360 flip hippie jump).

The other highest video that year was like a million views. Therefore skaters gotta dig him, or people are embedding thrashers video player. He’s a fucking look in my opinion, but that’s really not a bad metric to gauge something especially if it was actually on thrashers site. Like he promoted thrasher then anyone else that year, which kind of is the prose of SOTY right? Not saying I bink he should have won, but it’s not super far fetched tbh.

The one time I had the displeasure of meeting Richie Jackson was at Jonathan Park's house in Los Angeles. That’s pretty normal if you’re spending most of your time with people who don’t have that accent. I dated a British girl whose accent was significantly thicker around her family than anywhere else.

That being said I’m not a huge fan of ritchies skating, but he obviously can skate pretty well, despite questionable trick selection, and social media presence.
Wonder who would win in a fight, plunkett looks tougher, but then again he is trying to. It’s pretty funny that they are both very concerned with their looks/appearances but take that in completely different directions.

Fair point, I was it saying the same, just reminicent. I really liked ritchies first part for death, but since then less and less. He's now in his forties and as you said, had the humility to retire spontaneously; in comparison Richie is just a sad clown trying to sell out, I just rewatched his Death part from 2008 where he hucked a little bit more to make sure I remembered how he used to skate and while - bad taste aside - some of it is actually pretty good (I guess he still needed to really try and skate at the time), none of the shit he ever did is nearly as gnarly as some of Gou'd old stuff which actually took balls and skills and had serious risk factor. Gou used to have very smooth style too (classic East Coast-inspired), as opposed to looking like Disneyworld's Aladdin. Richie's style in the Death video is contrived as fuck, even clothing aside you can tell he's more focused on trying to catch your attention than on learning how to push.

I tried watching that to see what he was like then... turned it off halfway in.
Slap has been responsible for me watching the most heinous skateboarding I've ever witnessed, far too many times. Richie is one of the worst though, because as you said, it's so, so contrived.

I think rolling away on plywood or up a curb with a sign is whack imo.
Remember when most the general public clowned on skateboarders? For the most part it's because we are doing something they don't understand. Well, I think the same goes for Richie.

I find the bumpers thing hilarious because I think if for some reason (ie. drugs) somebody ever tried that 'trick', the possibility of the board escaping the row of tables mid 'slide' (while they have no way to know what it's doing underneath and if they're going to land on it) is the only remotely 'fun' part I could imagine. Now it's just like the dude straight up went to work.

Both of them certainly used to be able to skate when they skated more traditionally, but just because one could do it better than the other, that does not make Richie's skating invalid or take away from what he brings to the culture.
Look, I saw Richie at my local back in the early 2000s and he was a total Ali Boulala clone, straight up, however he could skate. So while I thought he was the biggest try-hard baker-boy-wanna-be cosplaying for a pissdrunx convention there was no denying he had skills. What I will say in defense of him these days though is that at least he's NOT jumping/ following trends anymore - he's being doing the 70s pirate hippy with weird tricks for a good 6-7 years now and I have to at least give him props for staying true to himself in a industry where pant trends change quicker than they do on a Paris runway.
BUT, and this is a big but(t), we need freaks and weirdos in skateboarding. Like them or hate them, they are the ones who change the game. Gonz could be seen as a total kook and dudes like Guy thought he was out of his mind at the time when he was pushing for double kick boards and proposing nose blunt slides as a trick that was actually possible. Natas, Blender, Gonz and Ed/ Mike V, and all those dudes were/ are total weirdos and that's why skating is what it is today; because these dudes thought outside the box and changed skating as we know it.
Again, I'm pretty neutral on Richie in general and pay little or no attention to him but I'm certain his name, along with Gou's, will go down in the history of skateboarding ... for better, or for worse. Plunkett and Staba? Yeah, probably not!

This one a lot of people have forgotten about because everyone only seems to remember his Overground Broadcasting part, and this is in the same vein. No, I don't especially like Gou's butt slides either, just saying that one trick is pretty much the only thing him and Jack Sparrow have in common. I'm sure Richie can skate conventionally, there's no denying that, a lot of the shit he was doing in his Death part actually took some skills and to begin with I think it's sterile to be concerned about who can or can't do what. That's not to say I'd want to watch him though, whereas watching Gou's old, more conventional shit? Count me in. It's one thing to do fancy weird shit on a skateboard, and another thing to look like an interesting person. Gou's OG style was unadulterated aggressive street skating, no gimmicks and I can respect that so much.
I'm with you on how we need freaks in skateboarding, but being a freak doesn't necessarily imply trying hard to look like one all the while doing super kooky shit.

I remember the one time I hungout with the revive guys, they were talking about one of their buddies on Instagram who was getting like 2 grand a day off of the amount of views and what not. 2 grand a day gets you 60-62 a month, which would equate to roughly 600-700 K a year. Throw about a 50% tax on that and you’re looking at between 300-350 k a year. I don’t know how realistic 18 million is, but if he has enough fucking viewership he could easily be in the 4-6 million range. Shit supposedly fucking Aaron Kyro is worth 2 million(read that somewhere on here). Also the revive guys are rich enough to go on trips 24/7 with 10-15 dudes at a time. Where I met them up at, plane costs would prolly be like a grand or a little over. They all had hotel rooms individually too, so like a few grand for that a day. Then you throw in per diem with that many dudes you got about $500-$700 a day. Basically that means they can afford to go on 20-30 k trips whenever they fucking want. So Richie making bank(I have no idea I’ve never met him/skated with him), is completely plausible.
