Merriweather Post Pavilion
http://myanimalhome.net/
?? :o
-
why are you so pitchfork
-
cut the ship.
-
why are you so pitchfork
-
haha, had to laugh at that. but i hate when bands get a bad rap from people because they're more popular now. makes die hard fans look like followers. frustrating.
anyway, so psyched on this. i hear theyre realeasing a box set of vinyl shit at somepoint?
-
FUCK YES.
-
ohhh shit that website posts music news. news. new stuff. i like new animal collective stuff. i get hard from it. they post news. new stuff. they like new bands. some new bands are cool. some new bands are on my itunes. some new stuff is good. they post news.

haha... you made my day posting that, so don't feel too bad holmes.
-
whats with the name? i dont really have a set opinion on it but i just hope its not like, an electronic version of campfire songs done at the merriweather post pavilion or something. are a lot of people sure that this is going to be the album that they were planning to release next year?
i hope deakin is on the album.
pitchfork 4 ever
-
wow, the track list is public now!!!!!!!!!!
-
soooooo psyched. a lot of new songs are gonna be on the new album that i saw them play live this summer. summertime clothes, daily routine, in the flowers, all so fucking good.
http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/2008/10/animal-collective-merriweather-post.html (http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/2008/10/animal-collective-merriweather-post.html)
-
I'm pretty hyped about this...
Hopefully I'll get to see them when they tour UK in January.
I wonder if the new album will sound anything like Strawberry Jam,or if they've gone in a different direction again.
Either way I don't really mind, any AC material is good material to me.
-
its supposed to be a slower album. as gordon said they have already played lots of the songs live and you can watch them on youtube. its not really worth it because of the quality though.
i hope it leaks
-
here are some of the better quality videos i found. so hyped. note that these are live versions so they take longer to get into the actual song, and there might be major changes to the drums or whatever as some of these are more than a year old.
flowers in her hair. apparently starts off the album. so good, very ballad like. i orgasm every time at 1:51:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIAlRvbEnXw
summertime clothes. im thinking will be the single from this album:

daily routine:

lion in a coma:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q1pf_t_IQo
brother sport. apparently this is closing out the album. a jam and a half. kind of a reggae/calypso flavor. so good:

moar leak
-
Man I had no idea it was coming this soon. More than stoked on this.
-
bummer no bear hug
-
that was the first thing i thought too, but summertime clothes is bearhug
and there had better be fucking yelling in the chorus on the studio version of it
-
Am I the only one that cant get into this band?
-
yeah. exit thread
-
I just listed to the strawberry jam cd and it was ok but so fucking weird.
Fireworks is awesome tho
-

this new cd coming is being called the most accessible album they've put out. you'll probably like it way more than their older shit. i'm a huge fan and still find their old stuff abrasive.
-
On some of those videos posted in this thread the comments say things like
"man this has got to be one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. "
"the lyrics right from 1:50 to "to hold you in time" are practically the most beautiful lines ever written "
"his is perhaps the prettiest song they have ever made, apart from #1. It makes me wanna cry. Such a visual song. Every time i hear it, i seriously "leave my body"..just as he sings. Took me a long time to get into this band, but now i'm convinced. Best band on earth!"
I feel left out :(
-
hahaha
it's a relative beauty.
p.s.- figured out why you can't get into them. this thread will help: http://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=33&topic=30454.0
id go with the shrooms.
-
i guess for virgin ears strawberry jam is pretty weird, but they can get much much weirder. i've never had to take drugs to like them, but listening to them makes me want to. its odd though, they keep getting weirder but at the same time more accessible.
have any of you guys ever listened to 'safer'? its from the peacebone single. it definitely could've made it onto strawberry jam but it fits better on that single.
oh and one more thing, i love when panda bear plays drums and sings. maybe because its brings some actual instruments in with the electronic stuff, i donno. fuck im getting too psyched for this and the album is months away
-

That's a really great song, but like you said, it's a much better fit on the single. I couldn't see it meshing to well with the stuff on strawberry jam.
Water Curses would've been great though.

Agreed. That whole ep was amazing and held me over to until right about now hah
here's a better version of my girls (formerly house and material things). fucking amazing performance. been in my head since i woke up this morning:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZMuSnbDsrk
-
yea water curses did have great single potential, so many ideas packed into so little space. just waiting and waiting for the leak, i'm probably going to try to get more high than i've ever been for that.
-
yeah, this shit needs to leak already
-
taste is such a jam by the way. well so are brother sport, my girls and on and on, i just thought i'd bring up taste cause no one really mentioned it. U can definately see the hip-hop influence there, like a recasting of what music with massive beats can sound like. a giant playground/zoo thing where the manipulation of sound is only limited by your imagination, pretty neat stuff
thanks for that video gordon! anyone seen them live. i saw them at pfork fest this summer (lol) and at the metro in chicago a couple yrs back, probably see them when they come back to chi in january. who knows what songs they'll be playing by then, that's (part) of the beauty of this band, always thinking about the future while most bands tagged as 'indie' are just retreading the past with ever diminishing results. but that's enough negative vibes for an animal collective thread haha
-
http://animalcollectin.6.forumer.com/
i know you've all been there.
planet xeno, is that name a black hole reference? sweet person pitch avatar, btw.

yea taste is rad. you ever see the blogotheque video they did? so weird but i love it. theyre singing into plastic cups for gods sake haha. it makes more sense now that i know what the song is supposed to sound like as opposed to when this first came out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB26sCD3tTI
yea i was at pitchfork too! me and my friends were itching to take a random trip to chicago so we chose a weekend and luckily the festival was the same weekend. so we drove from nyc on friday, festival on sat, then drove home sunday. pretty regular but it was fun haha. i saw them the previous summer too. i think new tour dates got announced, no? theyre playing a show in nyc the same day the album drops!
also, just found this. doesn't seem like it at first but yes its who could win a rabbit. comes in at 2:45. i love how theyre figuring out ways to still play their old songs but in their new style:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0vZNEEK8yI
-
crailtapper- thx and yea u got it, i guess i sort of have my own 'planet xeno' around here, a sweet park that's more like a small forest in the middle of a nasty industrial town
gordon-sounds like a sweet trip, not a great line-up at pfork but a.c. ending the night, that was tight. yea i've seen that, they're voices sound crazy. i think im going to see them on this tour as well, not sure if they have even newer songs up their sleeves. but yea when i saw them in chicago like a year or two ago they brought out that new version of 'who could win a rabbit' and also a revamped leaf house with like block rockin' beats, it was so crazy
-
stokin'.
i promise my slap brethren that if i find a leak first, you will all be jamming it within an hour.
-
tonycoxhox told me about these guys recently - have been listening to them ever since
-
Animal Collective is one of the most recent creative and innovative bands out right now. When listening just keep an open mind!
-
not sure if they're doing the same for this album, but for strawberry jam they did some crazy stuff to prevent a leak. with each disc they give to the press, they encrypt each file with the name of whoever they're giving it to. so if it leaks, they know who did it and will probably get a shit ton of shit for it. hoping someone finds away around this though haha
-
pretty stoked, i really like them. an old x got me into them a few years ago and i still jam it on the ipod.
-
I hope they leak a fake version that totally sucks on purpose so all you cheap assholes stop listening to them.
-

oh dont get me wrong, i'll still buy the album. maybe even on vinyl too

useless negativity towards harmless people's harmless decisions. good job mr. artistic teen.
ill probably download the leak and not buy the album. i wont feel guilty at all.
but the fake leak idea is one that i actually want to try. i was listening to really old merzbow and playing around with my sp-404 and synth and i was making sounds that sounded a lot like black dice. i wouldnt be able to think of the structures they came up with and all, but i could probably get some sounds that could be released onto the internet as "new black dice ep" if i could record a couple. im not sure if black dice would like that though, so i dont think i will.
-
useless negativity towards harmless people's harmless decisions. good job mr. artistic teen.
I want to piss off my parents but don't have the nerve to be gay, so i just act artsy.
i want to spread fake anal leakage all over the internet.
-
want to make a fake merriweather postpavillion with me or a new black dice cd or something with me and leak it so that everybody who downloads it will be covered in warm anal leakage?
-
we can just remove the mid and vocals from new order songs and replace them with screams of tortured bovines
-
http://www.lesinrocks.com/index.php?id=79
download this person's podcast, after about a minute you get a studio version of brothersport. the future is here and it sounds rad.
-
or just head over to pitchfork, they posted an mp3.
-
http://www.zshare.net/download/51482566c2f116a0
pitchfork took it down. rejoice!
-
crailtapper, i would hug you if i could (so homo)
just booked tickets to see animal collective in december.
-
donde esta poocrusher?
-
hah, sorry, seriously though, thanks
-
Thanks for the link!
-
damn! thanks.
i cant wait for the leak.....
-
apparently heres brother sport and 2 more song clips (don't know which as i'm currently downloading.):
http://www.mediafire.com/?fxgkydzizjc
also, rumor says we should be expecting a leak around midnight. fuck i hope so.
-
where did you hear that?! ?!! !? !
-
where did you hear that?! ?!! !? !
collected animals forum.
by the way, the two clips in the above link are both about a minute and 45. they are the songs "also frightened" and "bluish" and they are amazing. i'm about to get my hands on a studio version of "my girls". bear with me. nope.
-
oh shit oh shit oh shit, i think i have it. give me an hour and i'll let you know if its real. if it is the actual album, i'm posting the fuck out of this link!
-
DAMN im really praying hard right now. let us know home boy!
thanks
what are you downloading? a torrent or something?
-
i just got owned. i opened in the flowers and it was definitely "butterfly" by crazy town.... it was a fake. still waiting for midnight though. go to the top of page 2 riley, thats the forum i've gotten a few songs from just now.
-
ive gotten owned lots of times. i am a slave.
it says the forum is locked. maybe i need an account.
midnight where? eastern time?
-
yep, eastern. you do have to register but it's super fast, its a place to nerd out on ac, and that's where the like will probably be coming from.
-
ok if its easy i might sign up and lurk around midnight. thx. pray.
edit: shit! they arent letting new people register!
-
damn. well, at least we can all check out that crazytown link, haha
-
trust me man, it was lame.
-
please let us know in around 2 hours how things go
-
said leak was fake. it was chinese democracy (i think) with the following note:
sorry guys
I never had the album. This whole time I've been trying to find someone with the album to just leak their copy, duh. This last attempt was to have Domino possibly jump the gun on their streaming thing. It probably didn't work.
-pinkertonman12
i'll be back
i will kill people. i put off plans tonight just to hear this. i hate the internet.
-
yea im familiar with crazytown, that was a joke....i swear. that sucks though, it seemed entirely plausible after the mini-leaks.
-
holy fuck. loving those leaks. anyone come across anything new?
edit: i honestly cant stop listening to bluish
-
edit: i honestly cant stop listening to bluish
are you talking about the sample of this or did the whole track leak? i'm trying to put off listening to those samples again and just wait for the full leak. i'm even trying to not listen to brothersport again (aside from the half dozen times i've already played it)
-

-
that sucks though, it seemed entirely plausible after the mini-leaks.
exactly. oh well. as for holding off, fuck that. i love this band and even these samples and one track have made my day better! open up your open up your open up your throat MAAAATT!!! goddamn, that's a great song!

yea and so many of them packed into one song, all the counter melodies and stuff (i don't know music terms that well). it sucks that i don't have big enough speakers here at school to do these beats justice. haha, i just played brothersport one last time, i have to get through this 10 page yeats paper somehow.

hah seriously. cant wait til i get home from work so i can bump this shit! haha. im bummin though, it seems entirely too cold for this song hah. if they released this in the summer this would definitely be the summertime jam...actually nah neva that, it still will be in 09
-
but the fake leak idea is one that i actually want to try. i was listening to really old merzbow and playing around with my sp-404
how do you like that by the way? ive been thinking of getting a used 202 or 303. just for basic shit and filler stuff. i play keys in my band so it'd be cool to add in some noises/sound here and there
-
get a 202. i got one, pretty easy to use and cheap.
-
get a 404, more pads, more effects + features. plus the 404 uses compactflash cards, 202 and 303 use smartmedia cards and those are hard as fuck to find.
-
my friend djs for "indie night" at a local bar and is a huge ac fan. i sent him brother sport and he's definitely playing it monday night. i will get to hear this shit blaring while getting wasted in public. dudes, it will be awesome.

hah i was just thinking this last night as i was blasting it in my apt. "if i was a dj, id be the shit if i played this during my set"
drink a few during the song for us pals
-
that sounds so crazy man
-
hey for anyone who's into black dice, you should really check this out. eric copeland's (black dice member) solo stuff. more on the pop end of the spectrum than his band. It's a really dememted, sample-laden take on pop music, tho.
i've listened to this record a lot more, it's from '07. 'green burrito' is a choice cut.
hermaphrodite
http://www.mediafire.com/?flgwlmgf115
and here's his brand new record. i've only spun it a couple times, but i've listened to the title track a lot. it's so crazy. one of those tracks that i worry might be bad for my brain.
alien in a garbage dump
http://www.mediafire.com/?yqy0myz2iih
-
haha it turns out that grizzly bear leaked brothersport
and yeah eric copeland is great! i wonder if there will be a new black dice album any time soon.
-
haha it turns out that grizzly bear leaked brothersport
hah wow that's hilarious. hope no legal battles or anything happen, that'd suck
-
haha weird, i guess lots of labels hire web sheriff or whatever. i remember when strawberry jam half leaked, and they were just like, "we're not really pissed it leaked, just that u only leaked half of it. so please leak the rest so people can get the whole listening experience." they said something along those lines, which was so rad. yea im interested to see where black dice is going, load blown was so messed up. (in a good way.)
-
crailtapper here. i'm using this account until they get that login problem fixed. anyway:
this song is called "my girls".
http://sharebee.com/009c9d77
enjoy
oh fuck yes, great find crailtapper. made my day. anyone else notice how clear their voices sound on this record as opposed to previous ones?
-
im bummed i dont have an headphones to plug into the computer im at. i didn't like animal collective until i got into strawberry jam. i still dont like their stuff before that, but after hearing that and person pitch i think if the go in that direction i will enjoy their newer stuff. so now tell me, with this new stuff are they around strawberry jam (or better yet person pitch) or is it more like past stuff?
-
Thank you!
-
yeah, its definitely a rad song. i can't wait for summertime clothes though. THAT will be epic. i will probably trip balls and put that song on repeat.
oh man for sure. im bumming today though. slept on getting tickets for their nyc show and they announced a secret show at bowery which sold out so quick as well. the craigslist search begins
sven, it'll be very hard for you to not like new animal collective. have you listened to feels yet? theres some stuff on there you'd probably like i think

it's similar to strawberry jam and person pitch, but it's a different thing at the same time. closer two those two albums than any of their older stuff. download that mp3 i posted and check it out. i'll put it this way, this is their most accessible album to date.

it said that "taste" leaked on dec 12th the mmp wiki page a few hours ago but now its gone. maybe it leaked and then the web sheriff caught it before enough people could get their hands on it. its so stupid how individual tracks are leaking.

it didn't leak. it was the "take away show" version that somebody ripped an mp3 of.

lol for that pic. thx for posting that preview or whatever, i've been looking for new mp3s of 'on a highway' and 'from a beach' ever since i lost mine. both really good tracks, i hope they put out the traditional post-album ep w/ those two songs and 'grace'. 'grace' and 'beach' are so bubbly and cartoony and 'on a highway' is probably the AC song that freaks me out the most, who knows what the studio versions could be like.
oh man, just realized 'highway' and 'beach' are m4a, anyone have mp3's by chance?
-

check in that zip file for a folder. i downloaded it and it has the mp3 versions in a separate folder.
-
hahaah that pic is awesome. yeah their harmonies on no more runnin are so good. ive always said this, but animal collective sounds like a disfunctional circus or carnival at times, and grace further proves it hah. theyre on some other shit with that song. and how do you write a melody over that? truly talented people.
some news on the "visual record" theyre working on. theyre working on it with the same dude that did the who could win a rabbit video. hopefully its out soon http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/animal-collective-going-visual-in-studio-1003919508.story (http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/animal-collective-going-visual-in-studio-1003919508.story)

dude, the more links the better, but thanks!
if you guys like it you should pick up the cd when it's released. it's worth it for the packaging alone.

For sure! I think I might buy both the cd and vinyl versions, I'm that hyped.

Pre order that shit
-
just to let everyone know, a commercial quality copy was leaked after the album leaked, so if you are going to download it you should look for the 160 kbps. im not going to look for a link because i know there are tons.

holy fuck. best christmas present ever, for real. summertime clothes=song of 2009 for sure. and holy shit, in the flowers is such a good fucking intro track, those drums gave me the chills when they came in. looks like im having a listening party at my apt tonight! haha
only gripes with the album thusfar though:
-i wouldve liked to hear more live drum stuff on some of the songs
-although you can hear a little bit of their tribal sounding influence, its much less than on other albums, im missing it a lot. case in point, i wanted to hear more of what was going on in the first 15 seconds of 'also frightened'
-gets a little too panda bear-ish at times.
-not enough yelling from avey/vocals sound too smoothed over at times
that being said, i LOVE the album. pretty much what i expected and then some, and i had some high expectations for this album too
-
I concur. I really miss Avey's yelping on the summertime clothes track. I think in the flowers is a great way to open the album. I also think summertime clothes will be the album's hit. Maybe brother sport.
-
my girls
-
maybe so brother man.
-
this is the only thing ive listened to for the past 4 days. then i woke up this morning and deleted it off my computer. hopefully that makes it a little more enjoyable when i get my copy on the 21st. this is probably the only time in my life i've preordered anything.
-
i can't believe i missed the boat on this. fair enough though, i was out of the country.
any links still live/can someone mediafire this?
hit me a PM if you can, i can send you an album with live versions of all these songs.
-
ave you ever considered that the music by the animals collected that moves you may just be doings of satan or another evil force?

the more im listening to this album, the more i realize its like a weird r&b album haha. and i mean that in the best way possible.
from bluish:
when we're alone i wanna say
lets just stay in, no ones here in our apartment babe
put on your dress that i like
it makes me so crazy though i cant say why
keep on your stockings for a while
there's some kind of magic in the way you're lying there
the cleaner, smoothed over vocals are growing on me

hahah so good.
btw, although i hate pitchfork most of the time, they gave the album a 9.6. seems a bit excessive, but good for them
-
such a fun record. it's already soundtracked long boring drives, a drunken new year's eve party, alone time w/ ladyfriend, and of course 4 in the morning stoned close-listening inspection for me and was compatible w/ each setting. i can't imagine that i'll like another album from '09 better than this, haha
-
right on man. my vinyl didn't show up today.... it's like what's the fucking point of preordering if i don't even get it on the release date?
-
picked it up on vinyl yesterday and it sounds great. definitely heard a lot more things going on since its not coming through my headphones or dinky computer speakers, especially in guys eyes and lion in a coma. the album is meant to be played loud!
-
yea who else would have a digeridoo riding a huge beat haha
-

new song+my girls video, enjoy!
-
concerning the my girls video:
what the fuck?!
-
When this album first leaked, I listened to it once and posted on a local board about how weak they were, and how their "fans" were forcing themselves to like it for hipster points. I now feel like a big moron for saying that I can't stop listening to it. I'm not too big on a few of the songs, like Daily Routine, Guys Eyes, Lion In A Coma and Brother Sport. But the rest are all pretty amazing. Bluish is probably my fave right now.
-

i really don't like that video. at all.
it looks like a terrible blue man group video mixed with a coke ad.

this paragraph is the definition of a hipster.
-
lets not turn this into a hipster definition thread. the word is tiresome and more annoying.
kevs post is exactly what i thought this album would do to people. give the other songs time, they'll grow on you
edit: my girls is the featured vid on youtube which is kind of crazy. happy for them

been on steady rotation since i bought it

So, it's been two months since the release. how's merriweather sitting with everyone? Still love the album as a whole, not my favorite of theirs though. At first I didn’t like the lack of shouting/yelling, but after reading avey's reason why it makes sense. He felt the album didn’t need it, but they still add stuff when they play live. Personally no more runnin is moving up on my list of favorite songs from the album.
Read several recent interviews and I'm liking what im hearing. Talks of possible deakin return for next album, possibility of going back to more organic instruments, and they like whiskey.
Hmm what else, oh yea, live archive of stuff…not sure if its been posted before http://www.bansheebeat.com/ac.html (http://www.bansheebeat.com/ac.html). download panda bear at the bowery ballroom (6/18/07). In the first track he sings 'guys eyes' over what I think is an atlas sound song. Fucking amazing. Its labeled as 'untitled' and its in the middle of the track. That’s why live sets are a treat because you could be hearing future versions of songs and you don’t even know it! gah I've been finding so much rare shit its awesome. not sure if this link has been posted before too, but: http://www.brrrptzzapthesubject.com/?p=196 (http://www.brrrptzzapthesubject.com/?p=196)

been jamming it a lot lately. not a long time fan but definitely enjoying exploring their stuff.
-
i'm sure it's a metaphore for something deeper but the lyrics to my girls seems like perfect theme music for my life right now
-

I really like that song for sort of that same reason.
-
Try the prospect hummer EP.
-
There isn't much, that I feel I need
the solid soul and the blood I bleed
with a little girl and by my spouse
I only want a proper house
I don't care for fancy things
or to take part in vicious race
and children cry for the man who has
A real good heart and a father's grace
I don't mean to seem like I care about
material things like social stats
I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my girls
-
My girls is on constant repeat, I hated it at first but I came home high one day and just and just listened to it and now Il ove it.
-
i'm sure it's a metaphore for something deeper but the lyrics to my girls seems like perfect theme music for my life right now
usually, the lyrics have a deeper meaning. i think my girls is pretty straight forward though, so stoke away.
anybody going to the show in oxford, ms on june 6th? it's the only one that's close and not dallas (i hate dallas) and a large group from my town is going.
this album's not my favorite, but it's damn good. i've decided that daily routine is the best song in the universe. didn't really feel it at first, but after getting high and learning it on a sampler/synth, i have a whole new respect for it.
-

seems like hearing it on a system where you can hear the bass makes a huge difference also, at least for me it did.

yea for sure, its meant to be played loud. when its played on a good system you hear so many more parts/noises in the background that you didn't notice at first. For me at least, one of the best things about AC songs are discovering new parts and melodies.
also, prospect hummer ep is one of my favorites for sure.
-
i dig bluish
-
Listening to the album now actually.
