Carpet Co fans be like “yeah it’s $90 a board but it’s important to support a local landlord who makes way more money than me even without his rental properties, also you need to consider that they don’t have a team or put out footage or anything. Plus it’s all ugly as shit so it’s totally worth paying $160 for a hoodie if you think about it”
carpet seems to really be trying to capitalize on the nu-metal resurgence

Trunk Boyz problem was that the ratio of “rich kid trying hard to be street” to actual city kids was 2:3 when most skate crews can only get away with 1:5. Didn’t help that the two trust funds kids were also the two loudest.

Who is the other trust fund kid?

My guess is they think Cory and Elijah were the trust fund kids.   I don’t think being from Santa Monica automatically makes you rich

Palace should do more for skateboarding worldwide (dunno if they do stuff in britain). Their presence in the community feels relatively meagre, it feels like they're just taking. I'm talking demos/contests/sponsoring/charity and such.

Supreme too.

Not certain about their financial situation but i'm sure they got millions

Not saying it's enough but iirc a few years back they opened a free indoor skatepark in London for a couple rainy months

I keep hearing that nu-metal is making a resurgence and fuck i really hate that. Nu metal is so fucking lame. Only thing worse is when country singers rap.

They donated a million pounds in 2020, and did a drop that gave all profits to the NHS and I see their logo constantly on event flyers in London..

Wasn't aware, but i'd file that under pandemic posturing. "in London" Yeah that's what i mean, nothing worldwide. Could be they keep it all on the low but their presence in worldwide skateboarding culture feels lackluster.

Cariuma and redbull 'do more' for skating then palace or supreme. Sponsoring tampa and stuff like that, while it shouldn't have to be like that. from an outsiders perspective ofc

yeah that’s fucking fried man. palace donated £50k to help keep a historic skatespot alive and running, they ran a free indoor park one winter, they’ve done stuff with the NHS, etc. it’s completely fine and appropriate for them to stick to the greater London area, since it’s a massive skateboarding hub and they all live there. just because something doesn’t happen in america doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist

i know red bull’s done some stuff with DIYs and shops but it seems like you’re confusing “doing things to support skateboarding culture” with “paying to slap your brand’s logo all over the place for maximum visibility during a webcast. who gives a shit about the tampa contests anymore anyways? when was the last time someone cool came up through those? what positive impact do those have on skateboarding in 2023?

what does sponsoring tampa do? that’s like saying john morgan does a lot for highways because he buys billboards all over them

Panera is a great place to get work done, way better than Starbucks or something. I once had to kill five hours waiting for a train in the dc suburbs, wandered into a Panera for the first time since childhood and was pleasantly surprised to discover they had free coffee refills and outlets in every booth. Not eating the food but it’s a 10/10 place to charge your laptop and phone

wknd kinda sucks now. what started as a cool project among a core group of friends turned into a bloated disjointed team with too many mid skaters, bad graphics, and videos with more skits than skating. hate to say it but i’ve lost interest
