CHOPS IS FUCKING KILLING IT!!!!!
-
LITERALLY! :'(
-
fucking hell , dropping interviews like a baws
-
Holy shit. that was fantastic.
Ty squashing his bag of suck 'dork' around part is possibly the lamest shit i ever heard in my life. no joke.
-
Wow that part about the deleted Bag of Suck part is SUCH a bummer... Why the hell would anyone actually go ahead and do that though? Could have just stashed it away in a hard drive or something for a while and said it was "deleted". Fuck Ty Evans
-
TY is looking worse and worse.
Wonder if Puleo was one to go over to the girl camp. Would have been amazing. They should just do it now.
-
Ty is such a little bitch.
-
I almost wish I hadn't read that interview. It was amazing, but reading about all these amazing things that could have been is disappointing.
And an obligatory fuck Ty Evans: fuck Ty Evans.
-
Skate Mental was what MJ and enjoi crew couldve ended up on,
wonder who wouldnt be able to come along.
-
whats this fully flared arm shiiit?
-
The best thing about that interview is when he says he will do his own brand again, that made me happy.
-
i'm in a state of grief since knowing ty evans robbed the world of a full Marc Johnson part.
-
i'm in a state of grief since knowing ty evans robbed the world of a full Marc Johnson part.
and full parts from alot of other good guys in PS ...
-
Chops is on a meth binge and stole Whitley's cell phone.
Edit: Man .... I'm drunk right now.. but uh... Ty evens sucks.
-
Chops is goin out proper! But, wooooowwww Ty Evans is a gamy cunt. Before reading that interview I tried to take all the Ty hate with a grain of salt, but holy fuck... Fuck you Ty. Robbin us of a Marc Johnson part and shit...
-
guys we just dont see skating how he want's it represented
-
That was great. The back 40, whatever it is, I'm backing it.
Fuck Ty Evans.
-
ty blows dicks
-
why did he obey to shitty evans? rick howard (girl owner) was ok to release the part...
-
One of the best interviews I have ever read, both did a perfect job. The Ty thing is fucked on so many levels, I can almost see how Marc would have repressed that memory.
-
I had an awesome day of playing in a water park with my son and daughter with pretty damned perfect Hawaii weather while my wife finished reading a book in the shade. We had a great lunch of Korean barbeque with some bubble tea for dessert. This is how we celebrated the fourth of July and I even managed to sneak in some skateboarding.
This interview was the cherry on top of a really great day. Thank you.
Oh, and fuck you Ty Evans.
-
That shit about Ty is seriously heartbreaking. It just goes to show how much skating changes once it's a business. So with all that said, fuck Ty.
-
The man knows his way around a camera and a schedule, but how the hell did Rickk and Mike let that kook around some of the most important skateboarding to ever go down?
-
thanks ty- now i m heated. good job
-
thanks
obama ty.
-
Yeah it doesn't really add up...if Rick (essentially, The Boss) was backing the whole thing, but Ty's opinion is carrying more weight? I don't know if we're hearing the entire story. Just doesn't make sense.
-
fuck ty, rikk still seems like the best dude ever.
-
Mr. Evans deserves to be sent to the naughty corner
-
What earthly reason would Ty have to delete that footage entirely? That makes no fucking sense. Ty's a douchebag.
-
Chops going out with a bang
-
Why would Eversol delete it? Fuck Ty. Just keep it and don't release it.
-
I doubt he really did. Ty should stick to m0t0X xtr3me sports and not return.
-
I doubt he really did.
I don't see why MJ would say it was deleted if it hadn't been. He seemed honest/bummed about the whole ordeal.
-
I hope Evs kept it on a hidden jump drive or external hard drive or something and now that the cat's out of the bag, he'll be like, "Surprise! Here's an MJ Tiltmode part!"
And for everyone asking about why they listened to Ty, it sounded like he was making such a big deal out of the situation, not dropping it, and basically being a dick, that it wasn't worth the headache anymore. He probably wouldn't stop bringing it up and MJ and Evs just got tired of dealing with the situation. At the time, it probably didn't dawn on Marc how much that part meant to him and he just wanted it to be over-especially considering that he was spending so much time working with Ty and everybody on the Lakai video and stil had a lot of time ahead of him.
-
Well MJ also said that during the time he was a full blown alcoholic so maybe the conversations didnt end in the best way and maybe eversole wasnt trying to piss his friend off or get him in trouble. Just a guess. It really sucks that it wasnt in the video because bag of suck is hands down one of the best videos of the 2000s, just a tight crew of dudes that no one besides a few people really believed in. Hemmorrhaging that many big names and still coming out with that video? Damn.
mj and his son did get last trick in the friends section so at least theres that.
This interview was perfect, it filled in a lot of fairly large gaps in his epicly laterd.
im bummed that company didnt pan out but that probably goes back to no one thinking the dudes that were left on enjoi could hang. In a lot of ways maybe the way it turned out was for the best because all those guys had something to prove and mj had a lot to deal with. Still though, it wouldve been nice if rick and company had a little more faith in those dudes because enjoi is full of rippers. At least theyre all still good friends and the door is always open for other stuff. As a fan of all these dudes its like seeing a happy ending.
Also MJs pretty sweet part is perfection, it has all the best elements of his fully flared opus pared down to perfection with a song that wraps it all up very very nicely. Its easily the best part in the whole video.
im glad he proved everything youve ever heard about ty evans and then some. I guess rick trusted him a little too much.
-
Wow, he just buried Ty.
And Rick and Mike to a degree.
BA leaving could be just the first of the changes to Crailtap coming out of Pretty Sweet.
-
MJ has been my favorite skater for years, and getting to read that interview was really great. one of the best interviews ive ever read about skating. MJ to me seems like a really smart guy, and probably a genuine stand up dude now that hes cleaned up, and to me hes a real inspiration. im really excited to see what hes doing with the back forty.
and before this, i didnt have any hate for ty. i knew he was a bit over dramatic with his editing, but i was cool with it. the skaters and the tricks in his videos were still gnarly, and thats all i really cared about. but knowing that he not only robbed us of what we wanted to see in pretty sweet, but made matt evs delete what was no doubt an awesome MJ part makes me want to kick his ass. fuck ty evans. dude should be banned from skating forever. im not a mean person, and i never say hateful things to people in public, but i wont hesitate to tell him how big of a dick bag he is if i ever see him. that bummed me out so much. i really hope he knows how badly he fucked up with that move.
-
that also reminded me of some salabanzi interview where he said his best and favorite part of his career is somewhere on a hard drive at flip and they wouldn t even give it to him just to see it. only for top $
-
I can't understand why Ty would just wanted that footage deleted. There has to be more to the story than just that?
-
Chops, I love you.
-
Ty Evans the Osama bin Laden of skateboarding ...
-
TY EVANS stay getting dookyed on
i seriously wanted to stomped ty's ears together after reading that fuckboi shit he pulled
he had to much power over at crail......glad thats over
he told us all the OG niggas had full parts.....the thing everyone has been wandering
but ty prolly had that shit deleted too
MJ is that realness
i feel like he is bigger than just a rider
he needs his own shit
-
Damn. I defended Ty for a while, then sorta looked the other way, and Modus is still my favorite video, but...
FUCK TY EVANS
Goddamn. Biggest kook ever. Give me that fucking MJ part. (Please tell me Evs has it hidden away on a hard drive somewhere. He just has to.)
-
OK Chops. You're making me think you have a Gonz or Stranger interview in your hand somewhere. DO NOT LET ME DOWN.
-
Great interview. I love mj.
Ty didnt rob us from a full mj part... He robbed it from mj. And thats even worse...
I heard rumors about ty being a dick, but seriously... I didnt know he was that rotten.
-
These past 3 CBI's have been insanely good. It's interesting to me how personal each dude is willing to get. Agree or disagree, love or hate, it's pretty fucking killer to have something like that so in depth. A lot of pros aren't willing to open up like that.
Great work all around.
EDIT: Again, the deleted part...just doesn't make sense. No one, and I mean no one, could tell a pro that carries the weight MJ carries, to delete something. I'm not buying that. And while MJ is a legend type of pro I do always get something a little dark from his interviews. He seems like a dude that could snap at virtually any time.

I have to agree with you to a degree. MJ definitely has some demons and a darkside, but I also would not say that he is a liar. He was pretty open about his alcoholism, and Ty is definitely a douche.
-
Amazing interview! Kind of a bummer all you guys are taking from it is a deleted video part. I also doubt it was deleted, I'm sure Eversole has it somewhere. Ty is probably embarrassed at the whole thing now but the fully flared hype was big, im sure he was under alot of pressure, no excuse but think about it they weren't even releasing ads or photos with their best shit for years leading up to it. Also if you look back at Fully Flared I think a couple clips are in there, you can tell because they are dorkier "tilt mode" clips and not filmed as well in comparison. Its a shame because I think that part would've built more hype honestly but maybe Ty didnt see it that way. Eitherway MJ is the best! Sick interview, had food poisoning today and this is the only thing that made me feel a little better.
-
Incredible interview, MJ is on point.
-
Fuck Ty. Dude deserves to die a million different deaths.
My only question is why the fuck MJ was talking about their friendship/relationship in such an apologetic and nostalgic way in the beginning.
Evans completely fucked us. Robbed us of a Gino part too.
-
OK Chops. You're making me think you have a Gonz or Stranger interview in your hand somewhere. DO NOT LET ME DOWN.
-
saw a dude call him out on instagram, ty claims that the footage was used in his fully flared part. I dont know how to use webstagram.
-

I just checked his and didn't see anyone call him out
-
a Kareem Campbell interview would break the internet

Wow, he just buried Ty.

yeah it sounds like a lot is going on in the crailtap family.. would not be suprised to see even crazier things soon.
-
Where did he bury Rick and Mike at?
-
all the drama, this made me laugh though
"It's lame. I woke up one day and there were three McClungs, Heath Kirchart had retired, it was Battle at the Berrics 12, Element had a pro team of people I?d never heard of and there were all these new companies around while a bunch of other companies were now gone. It's surreal."
-
that was me who called him out on Instagram. Asked him why he deleted an MJ part when it had been given the thumbs up by rick and marc, he blocked me hahaha
-
haha good one! That says enough I guess...
-

Fucking seriously.
edit: just got to this,
"I think I got my wisdom teeth pulled, took vicodin for longer than I needed to and started playing Zelda on the Nintendo 64 a lot. " hahahha fuck yeah MJ rules life
-
Holy shit that interview was so good. Man MJ has logged probably 3x as much footage as your average pro and to think there's even a full length part of his that got flushed down the porcelain convenience!!!!!!11111 FUCK YOU TY.....FUCK YOU IN 1280p....SUPER SLOW MO..
I wonder if chops interviewed Blender?.....................................................

Damn you people are easy to please..."I drank a lot, I deleted a video part, don't forget I drank a lot."
Interview over.

MJ is a favorite but can't ignore the above.

I don't think he'd answer Chops' questions honestly.

There's more to the story. Believe that.

It's not complicated. Some of those clips ended up in his FF part--the whole thing wasn't just deleted. FF was a gigantic investment of time and money it was important to stay focused on making that project the best it could be.

Trying to keep a skate career core forever is how you end up with Phelps. Professional progression is a good thing.
And people not involved can judge all they want but it was a stressful time for everyone. New ground was broken. Everyone involved would have probably done things differently.
-
All these childish dick bags like ty and phelps have done plenty to fuck skateboarding up... Tiltmode MJ is the shit I want to see. hopefully this shit comes out in a few years with MJ's new project.
-
MJ is top 5 for life

Chops hit Ty up for a farewell CBI interview!

Phelps rules. You shouldn't have tossed that part Ty, even if some of the shit was going to be used for FF. WHO FUCKING CARES.
I am sure that there is more to the story, everyone has their take.
Good luck with the snowmobiles.
-
i got pretty rattled when he told that story about the video part.
Ty does have a history with footage of skaters he's working with going to other places. Wasn't there a conflict with AVE and Dill when they were doing the AWS and Transworld video?
And wasn't there a interview with cory kennedy saying after that beware of sasquatch, ty told him to stop putting footage into web and bro shit?
Glad to know he's forever gone now

You've obviously got a solid understanding of how the working world operates. Follow the Phelps model and you too can look 60 telling teenagers to bring it don't sing it.
Sometimes life ends up better when your career life ventures outside of skateboarding. Being paid well to travel, film, and edit is a good gig regardless of what you're filming.
-
Is there a legal issue involved? I don't get it. Why would Marc and Matt delete the shit? I would've told Ty to fuck himself. I would think that whatever filmer actually filmed it would own the footage and Ty would have no control over what gets put out where. Am I wrong?

Phelps has dedicated his life to skating, has seen the all time best, runs what is by far the best magazine (which is destroying everyone else online as well), and will be here after shit talkers have long gone. Following the Phelps model and you too can stay in skating your whole life whether it is dead or not. Disappear filmer clown.
-
I understand what you're saying about Phelps but skateboarding's a small industry and there's only one Thrasher.
And to be honest the only people who think working in the skateboarding industry is ideal are people who have never worked in it. A lot of people get pigeonholed in the industry because that's all they know. If you're a pro from your late teens until your early 30s you've missed out on the window where career development happens for most people.

This is so true. It's an industry where most people put a lot of talent and energy into stuff with very little reward.
If this actually is Ty, whats the relationship like with you and everyone at crail nowadays? Both owners & riders??
-
@ Jorge hold on, Thrasher is destroying online content? How my threads on here are about a Thrasher article? Despite some inconsistencies in the MJ article I'd say Chrome Ball is destroying it.
I'll give Thrasher their due for surviving in print but they're the outlier. Digital media is the new norm.

I'm a full time sommelier and I have a very healthy life outside of the skate bubble. This is on top of just opening a nonprofit indoor skatepark and managing a skate shop so don't fucking lecture me.
I would never want to be Phelps, I'm too open minded to pull it off even if I wanted too. That being said he is an awesome dude (if you've ever met him) and a fucking idiot (if you've every met him). Pretty much standard for humans, he's just more extreme. And it's nice having him around to call out bullshit. All he cares about is skateboarding you can't hate on that.
I was serious about good luck, I'm glad you are moving on to other ventures. I don't wish ill fate on anyone. Skating is making a move away from the polished 1080 clean super produced stuff and I'm all for it. That stuff has its place, you are good at it, go make some money.

If you've got a job you enjoy and make enough for the lifestyle you want I'd say you're killing it. That's the measure of a good career, not a lifetime of devotion to an industry targeting 12 to 24 year olds.

Amen. But if I'm not trying to bag on those who live and survive in the skate industry who are doing just that. Lot's of people are in the industry and they are enjoying life. Phelps aint the only dude.
-
I met Phelps a few times. He demanded I give him cigarettes. I looked at his feet and saw he was wearing the Emerica MJs. I said 'nice kicks'. He said 'yeah they are, look, my NAME in on the tongue! You see that?? Thats fucking cool!'
He later on was egging on these super young black kids at Potrero to fight. I guess they were all locals, maybe it was cool, whatever. Seeing a 50 yearold man encouraging 10 yearolds to fight in any situation is pretty whack IMO.
-
Do you think you'll ever try a brand of your own again?
I definitely will. That's a yes.
off the nose... OFF THE NOOoOooOoOOooOSSSE.

Although Ty is a serious dick for asking for the part to be deleted, defending Jake Phelps is pure nonsense.
And Ty, if you are still lurking. Can you explained wtf happened with Dev Calloway?
-
Although Ty is a serious dick for asking for the part to be deleted, defending Jake Phelps is pure nonsense.
Jake doesn't need defending. He doesn't care.

Phelps may be annoying, but he's been here for skating forever. Thrasher is better than its been in a long time (seriously, go look at Transworld, its sad) and their web content is blowing everyone else away (the berrics? TWS? Please). Phelps has something to do with that. His heart is obviously in skating, he's not just a corporation coming into it. To me this trumps his irritating behavior and horrible skate rock music.

Say what you want about Phelps but you would never hear him say "editing a magazine is good regardless of if its a skate mag or not." He's down for skating and that's it. Not that I don't hear where Ty's coming from, and if he's happier doing other shit than good for him. But don't get down on Phelps for not "progressing" out of skateboarding.

Yeah maybe. But how does someone have right to make another person delete a video part worth of footage? Fuck you
-
Nobody made anyone delete anything--Mike just said he's got a copy of the footage he forgotten about. He forgot about it because it wasn't that big a deal.
The time leading up to FF was a blur for everyone involved. It'd be silly to take any one's word as gospel.

Fuck you Ty. You can say whatever the hell you want to justify your history of creating stress for skaters, but to me its all bullshit.
How the fuck do you not understand that skateboarding should never, ever, EVER be stressful for the people involved?
I blame a lot the current state of the industry on what you did in Fully Flared. Creating pressure and some grand expectations you felt the skaters should live up to. I understand companies/filmers want to push skateboarding and their own limits, but you just come off as a bully.
I've read a million fucking interviews with Pros and almost all of them agree that skating and video parts were best when things just happened naturally. Pro filmers weren't involved, there were no "trick lists", no hype surrounding videos, and friends were filming shit as it happened. Every fucking skater will tell you this.
The thing you will NEVER realize Ty is that most core skaters, the people you should care about, don't give two shits about the quality of footage or tricks. We just want to see our favorite skaters skating. Period.
You can justify changing the video industry for the worse all day, but from all the interviews I've read it seems like you created completely unrealistic expectations for Girl/Chocolate. MJ isn't the only one who said it. BA's recent interview basically spelled that out for us.

Fuck off asshole. Name one thing I said that hasn't been backed up by interviews from skaters themselves?
Okay, obviously Fully Flared wasn't THE video that set up the high pressure/expectations we see now, but it certainly didn't help.
Maybe MJ is overly sensitive, but I guarantee he wasn't the only one to go borderline crazy during FF.
If the skaters wan't to put enormous pressure on themselves and their video part, that's fine.
But it should never come from the filmers.

The worst thing about this isn't that you pulled such a dick move, the worst thing is that you put yourself and your 'vision' ahead of the talent actually doing the work. That you grudgingly cherry-picked the best parts makes it worse.
It's not easy putting films together, and shit gets heated. But you gotta realise that without the skaters, you have no video. Your attitude towards it all kind of shows that your work is about you, not the skating. That's sad, and it will hurt your career in the long run.
In short - you need skaters, they don't need you.

Ok, thats just wrong, if people really didnt need editors everyone wouldve loved extremely sorry. You need both for something good to happen. Theres nothing wrong with having a "vision" for what a video should look like because all the best videos usually have a solid concept but its another thing to not follow through with your vision and not make all that misery worth it for everybody involved.

The act of skateboarding for fun doesn't require filmers or editors but pros who want to make a living sure do. Companies to want to generate revenue so they can pay their pros sure do. When you look at the industry as a whole who is more in demand editors or pro skaters?
And everyone who was upset about that part that was forced into deletion, how deleted really was it?
@QUIT SINNIN there's tons of pressure put on pros to perform from TMs, owners, filmers but honestly most of it is internal. Some dudes react like MJ and some react like Pops. High expectations can produce some really monumental stuff. Look at Ternasky (rip).

If the bigwigs aren't doing it themselves, they're having someone else check shit out here who reports their findings back later on. It's all market research, happens in every industry.

yeah i would guess in the big days of the slap forum and the skateboard rumors website employees of companies were told to not post anything important on here and that they would be in some shit if they did. In the Mike Sinclair thread he talks about lurking the site checking stuff out.

since bigwigs read this shit they should realize that the fun aspect of skateboarding (tiltmode, chomp on this) will generate just as much sales as the jock contest scene... there is 2 sides to this shit the fun side and the contest/money side and the longboard shit is dominating the fun side... Skateboarding needs more fun at a pro level

Chomp and Tiltmode vids are good no doubt but you're delusional if you think they generate anything near the sales of vids like FF and Pretty Sweet.

It's sort of startling how you don't see the bigger picture as an artist (art director here). If you are catering only to what is NOW (middle school mall demo) and unable to anticipate/help steer towards what is NEXT, you're a hack. Anyone can do that. Also, if you care more about selling to your largest sales demographic without satisfying your core fanbase (lifers), you're a hack. You are supposed to be able to carry the vibe over from the inspirational projects (Chomp etc) to the mass audience. There have been numerous posts from you suggesting that your priorities as a professional creative are out of line with where they should be.

And why is that? Theres really no excuse for editting the video that way. It effects the perception of the brand when you do something like that and over time that effects who wants to ride for the company and who wants to buy the stuff they make. I dont have a problem with intense video productions if thats what a company is about but leaving out whole chunks of higher quality footage? Lame lens decisions? Not really making a quality video with the raw material available? Rubbing people the wrong way with no payoff at the end? Thats all on you.

You're right to a point, but putting a filmer/editor ahead of the skaters is putting the cart in front of the horse. Ty's ego getting in the way of MJ's hard work is twisted and the reaction of Carroll really says a lot.
I like that Ty has raised the bar of skate filming, it just seems that it's come at a pretty high cost. Put it this way - would you rather the world had Ty's filming or MJ's skating? The answer is pretty easy to me and I'm a film nerd who loves seeing HD skating.

I actually give Ty a lot of credit for coming on here and facing his critics.
That being said, some of the shit you're saying is whack as hell. Based on your logic you must think Bieber is a great artist because he sells a lot of records and is appealing to the "young demographic that sells product"? You can talk all you want about sales records that PS and FF set, but I think I speak for a lot of us when I say the world wants another Tilt Mode or Chomp video more than they want another FF. And I buy a lot of product, so my opinion must mean something to you.
You seem to be contradicting/ignoring a lot of what you said in your Jenkem interview a few months back.
To suggest that us "core" older dudes are irrelevant in the skateboarding market is a joke. If this is true, how has Anti-Hero managed to stay in business for so long? Funny, I don't remember them putting out a big-budget video to help sell product?
Would I like to see a balls-to-the-wall Stranger or Gerwer part, or a team video? Absofuckinglutely, but I buy Anti-Hero boards because they do everything on their own terms. Not because some big shot filmmaker sticks an expensive camera in their face and says "This is the future of skateboarding. Deal with it!" And those dudes are loyal to a fault.

Was Mouse marketed toward the middle school mall demographic? Or did Rickoo & Spike just set out to make the best quality, most tasteful video possible, according to their aesthetic judgement, without much concern for how "the market" would respond?
Of course that was a different era--simpler, more naive. There's so much more at stake now. The rich need to get richer.

It's not exactly a statement from Merril Lynch, but if anything these are likely to be lowball estimates. Over the past 20 years, Rickoo has skimmed from every piece of Girl, Chocolate & 4 Star piece sold. Plus Lakai money. Not to mention, once you have dough, it opens up all kinds of other revenue streams--stocks & bonds, mutuals & index funds, real estate flippage, etc. He may not have $40m in the bank but when you consider the equity value of brands in which he's a stakeholder, I'd be shocked if he was worth under $45m.

How would you know? Your paycheck-to-paycheck ass clearly can't wrap your head around what it's like to own a business and be wealthy. There are thousands upon thousands of multi-multi millionaires in America, and if you believe the owners of some of the global skateboard industry's biggest brands (one of whom is a successful Hollywood filmmaker) aren't among them, then you're mentally deficient. Please exit the discussion.
-
i think all those raw fruits are fucking with your mental function.
-
Ok so I'm not saying Rickoo Pro skater, multi-brand owner is way off on 45 million net worth estimate, Its just that Spike should be bigger on that estimate.
And I just read that They did not include Spike Jonze as a multi skateboard brand owner. That's how they miss that estimate.
Roger that...

I suppose you think because Rick Howard can still switch tre he's just "one of us" and you don't like to think of him as that guy with a portfolio worth gazillions, but I assure you, he's that guy. Or would you care to correct me (and celebritynetworth.com) by chiming in with your own estimation of his net worth?
As it happens, I've rubbed shoulders with literally hundreds of millionaires, even a few billionaires, during a career about which you know absolutely zero (and presume far too much), and when you have a successful business of any type, it doesn't take much to put your net worth above the million mark. And after you've made your first million, the second one's much easier. Play your cards right (as Rickoo clearly has), moving millions of units over the years in dozens of countries around the world, and it's actually not that big a deal to achieve a net worth in the $50m range.
Now since you've made something of a second career out of a Slap Pal and it's clearly skewing your sense of reality to the point where you've become obstinately opinionated about matters of which you have seemingly little comprehension, I'll encourage the thread to return to the topic by leaving you with this tidbit of advice:

After this and 360 frip's comment, I went to look on Urban Dictionary. I always thought that taint and chode were synonymous, but I'd never heard of the wider than long penis definition. It turns out WE ALL WIN, it's just that Nallid gets to be first.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Chode%201 (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Chode%201)

I always thought a chode was a small nob.
So, a chode can be a taint too.
That could lead to confusion. "I said suck my chode, not my taint."
Also is being called a taint (chode definition 2) an insult?

Ty's not solely motivated by that. He's interested in making films. He's focused on his career. He's trying to find a way to stay creatively engaged and make a living. He made some pretty fucking good skate vids along the way, and as it turns out, MJ's footy wasn't deleted after all, so...
"Thanks for the vids & good luck bro," seems like a more appropriate response than "fuck Ty," but maybe I'm just missing something.

Agreed.
Right after I read the interview I had a feeling that the MJ/TY delete story wasn't accurate. Half the interview MJ seems to be mentioning he was out of mind on booze during FF. How could Ty have the pull to make other filmers delete their footage and why would Carroll and Howard even let any of this happen under their roof? I think some of you are giving MJ a little to much credit since he is one of the best to ever step foot on a skateboard.

@QUIT SINNIN there's tons of pressure put on pros to perform from TMs, owners, filmers but honestly most of it is internal. Some dudes react like MJ and some react like Pops. High expectations can produce some really monumental stuff. Look at Ternasky (rip).
I agree with that completely but you shouldn't feel like your spot on the team/place in skateboarding is on on the line if you don't perform, which over the years and interviews I've read about FF it comes off that way.
Yeah 'cause dudes are getting kicked off left and right from Girl/Choc for not producing.
Ahahahaha fucking gold.

Yeah it seems like people on here automatically take his perspective as the truth just because they love him on the board. Since he says that he was drinking a majority of the time he was filming, it definitely is a huge possibility that he has some shit distorted.
-
the way i see it is Marc Johnson filmed a part and wished for it to be in the enjoi dudes vid. Rick Howard was psyched on the idea, and then without consultation, Ty Evans had it pulled. Now if that is all true, theres not much you can say that will change my opinion regarding Ty Evans being a sack of shit.
-
First it was deleted now it was pulled... Save your judgement for when you actually see the part.
And to say Rick or anyone at Girl was psyched on MJ putting out a part for another board company at the same time as his FF part is a bit of a leap. FF was a huge investment of time, creativity, and resources--everyone wanted it to shine as much as possible.

Whether or not the part is groundbreaking, it should have been released in some capacity if that is what MJ intended and Rickk was okay with it. Even if the part is not on par with his FF part I'm sure it would have been a joy to watch. He has one of my favorite styles in skateboarding and even a mediocre part from him would be more coveted to me than a full fledged part from other top tier pros. If anything, that would leave me wanting more which would have been delivered by FF.
Also, I feel as if credence should be given to the skateboarder in the production of video parts. So if he made the tricks, he should be able to dictate how they are used as after all the video part should be a reflection of the skater themselves, not the filmer (although I understand that it is a filmer's job to have input into the direction of the whole project). Weren't there rumors of MJ having 23 minutes of footage to choose from???
-
yea seriously, where's that footage? he must have 10 more mins of footage if that numbers true. he only released a couple mins of bonus footage from fully flared. I'd watch a half hour mj b sides

you keep nit-picking at my posts as though it will make you seem better, you did not let an MJ part get put in a video against his will, therefore you're a douchebag. the fact you're too stubborn to admit it was a dick-move just strengthens you're douchebag-ness. I'm definately buying MJ's full story over yours anyway. MJ does not have a history of leaving shit out, whereas if you watch that abortion of a music video you call "pretty sweet", you left out a fuckload lolololol.

Maybe not as severe as what's listed above, but I also really hated how Alvarez's part was edited, kinda ruined what could have been an incredible part from an incredible skater..

But the angry internet dude side of me is fucking pissed off at the fact that the stopped a Marc Johnson "fun part" from ever being seen. Ty, I'm sure that the level that MJ was skating at in the lost part is nowhere near what is in Fully Flared or Pretty Sweet, but we dont give a double flying fuck about that. You see, we, as skateboarders and fans of skateboarding videos, don't get to constantly hang out with the best of best of the industry on a daily basis. We dont get to film them doing the craziest trick taking 7+ hours to land. For you, thats probably what you think we'll enjoy. Even if its badly filmed or the tricks are only curbstalls or parking block grinds, dork tricks and dumb stuff, we'd love to see it.

Ugh. When I think of "shitty late 90s / early 00s style", I think of Scott Pazelt. He was a friend of mine's favorite skater back in the day. That friend is now a scientologist. I think that says a lot.

Many people have made great art at one time and then kooked it out. Modus is still my favorite vid of all time. Deleting MJ footage is unforgivable.
The worst part is that it seems Ty himself doesn't even like the videos he's making now. Go back a few pages and watch that Epicly Later'd...he talks about the stress and craziness of FF, how Chomp was so much more fun and they should make another video like that. So no one -- not the skaters, not the Pals, not Ty himself -- no one is happy with where videos went. Except the general non-skateboarding public, and 13-yr-olds. PROGRESS.

If some clips were used - cool. But at the end of the day, there are those of us who would really appreciate viewing the content in its original edit.
Best post in this thread. Pretty much sums it up for me.

It was a stressful time with a lot of shit clouding everyone's judgement. Everyone involved with FF probably has a list of things they'd go back and do differently if they could.
With MJ's other part it was just a timing thing with the release of FF. In hindsight it wasn't a big deal but at the time it felt like it.
I'm happy the part's being released.

This reads so funny to a queen like me because gay dudes use "FF" as shorthand for fist fucking.

Ty will not be forgotten easily, but he will be remembered with something to his name. Pretty Sweet may not be appreciated here, but there are a ton of other non-forum-lurking skateboarders who really dig it.
He did create some of the greatest videos in Skateboarding, watch Modus Operandi and those who remember it, remember it.
But we want to see a humble side to MJ's skateboarding also, and thats the part that you dont seem to understand. Modus will not be forgotten and truth is Ty made some good vids but pretty sweet bummed me out.
Every super tech bullshit flip in/out trick looked so desperate and gross. I miss the days of 5 trick lines and homies filming. This shit is trying to turn into a sport and if that is fully accomplished watch the shit disappear. The whole game is fucked up. It's supposed to be about pushing yourself not having somebody else push you. MJ is the shit Tiltmode all day

Read both MJ interviews, read this whole thread, and it's still only noon...
