Great watch. I'm torn on if I l like people's footage sprinkled throughout vs. having full parts. The GX crew has literally turned the city of San Fransisco into a skatepark. If you've never been to SF go. I'm 34 and I wouldn't dream of even trying to bomb some of the hills these guys are pulling lines down.
The speed this crew skates at is... It's almost incomprehensible. Props to the filmers and multiple angles. And the entire crew trying to keep each other safe. Seriously, one rock. One little crack in the pavement that knocks you off balance... I'm surprised these guys haven't had more trauma.
I know GX has faced its fair share of controversy and tragedy. Props for the skaters that are still rolling. And trying to be better.
But yeah, I don't think we've witnessed something this groundbreakingly "gnarly" since D Way's mega ramp stunts in the DC video some 20-odd years ago. That's sorta what this feels like. Stuff that like so few pros can even comprehend trying, these skaters pull off.
My jaw is on the collective floor during that last handrail session. Those might be some of the most high-consequence rail + ride-out tricks ever done.
I have the fullest respect for a wide range of skateboarding, styles, spot selections and trickery of all types. But this video is just fucking insanity.

100%. Skaters need to unionize across the industry.
And when any skaters are in the position to start a company, start a Worker's COOP to make sure that money is always going to the people putting their bodies on the line.
I know there's not a ton of money in skateboarding overall, but there is clearly enough to be siphoned out of the community with Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Cariuma all investing so much in positioning their straw in the cup.
More broadly, there's also so many companies that are apart of giant conglomerates that are making people at the top rich off of the passion farming of everyone lower on the totem pole. Unionization is a way to fight back against that, and if the Workers COOP is formed with the right legal designations, it can prevent the company from ever being corrupted by that influence, even after the original founders move on.

I know there's not a ton of money in skateboarding overall, but there is clearly enough to be siphoned out of the community with Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Cariuma all investing so much in positioning their straw in the cup.
More broadly, there's also so many companies that are apart of giant conglomerates that are making people at the top rich off of the passion farming of everyone lower on the totem pole. Unionization is a way to fight back against that, and if the Workers COOP is formed with the right legal designations, it can prevent the company from ever being corrupted by that influence, even after the original founders move on.[close]

And they have a brand they are trying to build, putting a gx vid on Thrashers YouTube would do so much more than on their own personal that would have way less subscribers and visibility.

One of my favorite tricks in this I actually kept thinking about all day today was that one alley-oop nosejam 270 tailgrab thing towards the end with that wild surfy landing. Would anyone care about enlightening someone who can be out of the loop about who that skater is? I mean I'll probably run into that clip on IG soon enough anyway but still, what a fucked up maneuver and clip (out of another gazillion in there, I've been to a lot of those hills and can relate to how impossible they are).

Someone said it earlier, but the audio was beautiful! There were a couple of pole jams where the sound of metal clanging metal then leading to a wheel screech… the effect was like hearing a hot rod engine revving and peeling out. Amazing.

I can't even begin to describe how insane this street is. The steepest in LA (which says something compared to the Baxter St hillbombs we've seen) but as you can see in the clip, the only smooth paving (putting it generously) is just a couple feet wide. So cutty. If you're ever near the highland park/Mt Washington area its worth seeing. Definitely never thought that would be touched. Another angle from his insta:

now I wonder if this type of skating will become more popular? lines at Mach 10 that go on for 6 blocks....Paris for instance does not have gnarly hills like SF but I can think of a few places/neighborhoods where the same approach could be applied. Like it's pretty much all downhill from Porte des lilas to Republique.
"going from A to B, hitting everything along the way" has always been my favorite type of street skating. Ricky Oyola and his crew back in the day were a big inspiration for me to go out and find runs through Paris when I still lived there, but the GX cats are taking the shit to a whole other level. this vid should be shown to all the people who don't understand why park footage looks bland and sanitized....

now I wonder if this type of skating will become more popular? lines at Mach 10 that go on for 6 blocks....Paris for instance does not have gnarly hills like SF but I can think of a few places/neighborhoods where the same approach could be applied. Like it's pretty much all downhill from Porte des lilas to Republique.
"going from A to B, hitting everything along the way" has always been my favorite type of street skating. Ricky Oyola and his crew back in the day were a big inspiration for me to go out and find runs through Paris when I still lived there, but the GX cats are taking the shit to a whole other level. this vid should be shown to all the people who don't understand why park footage looks bland and sanitized....
I've been watching it in small doses....shit is too hectic for me to watch in one sitting ha!
anyways I'm almost finished now, damn I'm kind of at a loss for words. Those downhill runs have to look 10 times crazier in person. The one time I've been to SF the hills totally humbled me, you really have no idea till you go there.
also pretty crazy how underground these guys are, I mean I don't know a single of theses dudes'names. who's the guy with the big beard for a start?? Rad style.
