That was fucking boring. He's a legend and all but none of that was impressing. medicro fliptricks and bluntslides in ditches yeah cool bro.
-
Geoff was one of my favorites when I was younger. Out of respect for the man, I will not talk too much shit about his red shoes or terrible brand name. Was every trick into a bank?
-
Good to see Penny.
Was every trick into a bank?
Pretty much. Many of them in the same banks.
-
That was fucking boring. He's a legend and all but none of that was impressing. medicro fliptricks and bluntslides in ditches yeah cool bro.
Fair point but I thought it was just awesome to see Rowley getting after it. What’s he like 47? The guy is pushing whatever he has left. Besides Guy and AVE who else is this fit? I admire Geoff’s drive and this made me want to push myself a little more.
-
Sick style, skating what he wants, on his own terms, Penny guest tricks - haters gonna hate, but lets see what y'all skate day to day? Also he's 47 - shred city. 10/10 love it.
-
Been waiting to see 2:43 for so long, it’s right by my local, so big in person. Someone posted a pic of him there like 2 years ago, I think it’s un skateable now. I could see how it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, shit name for a brand, kinda shit music, writing your name on skulls is lame but enjoyable enough to watch with my morning coffee.
-
Is it hucking gnar skating like he did in 2001?
Nope.
Still, For a dude pushing 50, I'm just glad he's still skating and putting things out.

Reynolds of course, Tony hawk still going strong, rune had a part last year I think, Jamie Thomas said he's working on a part. Maybe tony hawk has some hidden knowledge when picking the people for his game

pretty amazing for his age.
can't lie, ditch skating is my least fave variant. i'm not sure if it's even that the tricks are boring. visually, it's just huge slabs of colourless concrete, in vast, arid, lifeless landscapes. it's the least interesting thing you could choose to look at it really.
however, there was a tom penny trick and it was a fucking back noseblunt slide, which he's never filmed before so a penny nbf makes it a valuable contribution to skateboarding.
-
i liked it, but maybe that's because i'm getting old and appreciate bank type skating more these days.
dude is 47 and still filming parts gotta respect that
-
One of the GOATS, shredding, looking great for his age, and doing his own thing (which is kind of the point of skateboarding). Hating on Rowley is wasting energy.
-
I feel like he’s released the same part 3 or 4 times in a row now, but sick to see him still go at it like that.
-
I bet huge ditches like those would be really intimidating irl. Serious risk of eating shit let alone for a person who is almost 50.
-
“Free dome” at the skatepark isn’t ever free there’s always a catch22 for instance now I gotta pay for sti medications
-
need the story with the flames paint followed by the shot of the tags over this "whoever did this over my little brother's grave" (watch 4:02 - 4:08)
-
ollie into the metal grate was crazy.
late stage Rowley footage is exactly what I expect it to be and I'm fine with that. I mean the guy's pushing 50. It's not like he's putting out a slappy part or something.
-
270 in to the big double bank looked awesome!
I love that Geoff still doesn't respect his body's well-being.
-
I don’t know what’s worse:
The unironic use of butt rock…
making your own checkered vans with sharpie like a kid in middle school…
using a terrible pun of a euphemism for getting a bj for your board brand…
or
going from vegan punk to meathead knife guy
-
I don’t know what’s worse:

Geoff and Motörhead are kind of a tradition.
-
Dude is a legend, and gave 100% to this part. Ollie into the grate was bonkers
-
Crazy stuff in this....
Is it odd when someone does more than 2 tricks at the same spot at multiple spots multiple times?
-
Geoff still fucking rips, but that was one of the worst edits I've seen in years. Hopefully Jack Mansfield is the name of his 13-year-old son. Pretty good for an 8th-grader, but you're trying too hard to please your father. 3 minutes would have been more than generous. I suddenly have sympathy for Ty cutting everyone's 5 minutes down to 3 clips.
Nevertheless, I still love dude's skating. The rough cut should be sick.
-
Dude is a legend, and gave 100% to this part. Ollie into the grate was bonkers
Yeah, I thought that was grate. If you showed me these clips back in 2002 when Sorry! came out saying, “hey, here’s Geoff in 21 years”, I’d be like wtf he’s still alive?
Also ditto on the THPS comment above, I’d be shocked back then to find out how many of them would still be shredding in 2023.
-

My thoughts exactly.

Is Rowley still a "super pro"?

I don't know, but he has definitely earned his legend status

Oh weird. Good catch

Crazy stuff in this....
Is it odd when someone does more than 2 tricks at the same spot at multiple spots multiple times?
yeah there were some spots where he had like 4-5 tricks, none of which were that high level. i think there are totally times when it makes sense to do that (especially when it might display how nuts a skater went on one specific session) but it happened on like 4 different occasions in this and felt a little superfluous. 8 minutes of ditch skating is a bit exhausting, think this could've benefitted from some trimming and quality control. very sick to still see Rowley out there getting it though, good for him and i certainly wouldn't step to most of these spots

yep just show the best trick @ each spot and use a few of the weaker ones for the trailer. that would have been more impactful.
-
I thought it was gonna suck because of you guys and I ended up really liking it. Fast as fuck, rough as fuck and dangerous. Felt like Rowley still 100% doing his thing.
I don't get the hate. I'm not gonna do any of this in my 40s
-
This and his Propeller part reminds me how boring tech skating is sometimes, nothing better than fast and gnar.
-
Lest you young ones forget. Respect is due.

-
Let the dude do his craft.
Best trick was not in a ditch.
-
I’m begging anyone with editing skills to remake this one and cut out all the ditch/bank bomb rideaways.
-
Lol that intro “warning” was the most geoff rowley intro ever.

Ehh not my favorite Rowley part. Like others said the Ollie into the grate was sick but everything else is much the same from him since propeller. Tired of seeing noseslides on ditches, which never really looked cool to me anyway. Felt more like an 8 minute long instagram compilation than a legit part.
With that being said, the guy doesn’t owe us anything, he’s old, and he looks like he’s having a blast. He’s one of my all time favorites and Im just happy we still have the privilege to watch him skate.
-
Not sure if this was his first part (2:25) but there's some ditch action way back here

On election eve 2012, I got into an argument with Geoff on Instagram because he was posting about how Obama was going to come and take his guns.
Anyone want to DM him like a man and ask his opinion on the vaccine?

He doesn’t believe in vaccines he only believes in free dome

but how about corey glick's trick that shit was amazing

Best trick was not in a ditch.
yeah! you tell em! it wasn't even done by him either. it was done by tom penny.
-
I liked it. Hope I’m still skating at that age. Lots of haters on here, jeez. Guy is a legend and you can tell he is still enjoying it.
-
Man....when I saw Apples I thought there would be a guest trick by him too. Almost all of those OG Flip riders don't skate like they used to or don't skate at all so it's cool to see anything from these guys.
After watching this and even the Nine Club with Cole and Thomas, it bums me out that these guys are putting out their last parts we'll ever see.
-
I bet huge ditches like those would be really intimidating irl. Serious risk of eating shit let alone for a person who is almost 50.
That's exactly my takeaway from this. Mad props even hitting these spots at that age. Better than any of us here. At this point we're no better than football fan couch couches if we hate on this.

Veganism is pretty wack and knives are one of the most useful tools on the world

Man who gives a fuck? You're not a child to be having role models at your age.

only sane take in this thread. let the man do his thing. he wouldn't have to but decides to get out there. it's sick to see
-
My favorite skater ever. That first nose blunt sent me back in time. Dude is still skating shit most of y’all wouldn’t touch on your best days and he’s pushing 50. The Penny guest trick was smooth as butta.

Geoff lost me with his hunting shit, but it is pretty admirable to see people expanding the boundaries of age and skating. The back 360 into the bank and the ollie into the metal grate were sick.
-
Metal grate filming was botched :( and I saw kyle walkers name in guest tricks but can't remember seeing him in there?
-

Noticed that too and it also credits Appleyard. Maybe they had tricks that got cut but they'd already made the credits or just giving them a shoutout for giving him a high five after a trick. Altho is that Sumner at the very end?

Same. Watching a dude Geoff's age do any of this shit is rad as hell. If you feel any type of way about all the ditches you should try to skate one, they're fucking gnarly.
-
Years ago I scoped out the spot where his last trick is at thinking I could front tail it. For some reason just at that particular spot that first flat part is rough as all hell and there’s no transition, you just roll down, smash into the flat (for some reason its rocky and crusty as all hell) and then fly down another steep bank.
People have been getting clips in Skips Ditch for over 30 years, there’s a reason that’s the first time I’ve ever seen it in anyone’s part.
-
The dip down and up into the river, after the lipslide was gnarly! And then Apples pops up to say the same.
That was sick. It was nice to see him flipping his board directly into the banks and well as skating those rails and ledges into them, too.
He has been pro for 29 years, right? When was his first photo in a mag? '89? That's 5 decades, if so. 4 if not.
Madness.
Yeah, the flip to stall to start sliding on a bank can be repetitive, but I feel like he was a little more varied here.
Some of that stuff was on shit most of us wouldn't even drop into.
He's already legend status. This is just bonus shit for us all. He's got nothing to prove...

my problem was rather with the edit and music- hella lots of looong ride aways and the songs just were at the same pace the whole time so no build up, nothing. wich i guess made the multiple trics into the same spot kinda boring. I'd enjoy a re-edit for sure!
That said, rowley pushing 50 and still havin great style is beautiful. its kinda crazy, that he looks very agile when he slams in this part, that is amazing at that age!
cool to still see him do his thing, dude's a legend!
-
Still has one of the best styles in the game, pushes himself and does daredevil shit, so no complaints from me. Wish every legendary pro would do 10 percent of this at his age.
-
crazy he has been skating that 1 ditch spot at LA River for like, 30 years now...

This part was cool to see Penny, Rowley’s style has been gnarly 15+ years ago do I want to see him update his style to today’s game? Yes please however he’s going strong and for that kudos to you buddy.
-

Pretty sure he’s spoken before about needing some risk/thrill to enjoy skating, and that with age he’s found it in trick to banks. Boring but awesome to see Geoff still skating.
Also was so stoned watching this, was overjoyed watching penny point to the sky
-
I'm really just interested in the flame mural/tag over situation as well. I'm glad someone could read the whole thing, all i could make out was "whoever did this..." i wonder if there is any chance of the person ever seeing this video - 'cause now they know exactly who did this.
also, geoff rips, that was pretty repetitive/too long and free dome is a bizarre name that is very bad.
-
I say this with rowley being my favorite for nearly 25 years. Ditch skating is just really hard to get excited by. It’s basically the same thing every time - the ride away is the hard part. Still stoked to see him ripping, but would’ve loved more of that mini ramp tech we know he’s capable of
-
I'll always love and respect Rowley's skating but I'm not gonna lie, his persona/machismo is about as gnarly as these

tbh this part would be way more watchable if it was only 10% of the current length.

This what geoff blast in his way to the bank spot everyday

this seemed super low effort... but had good tricks. I couldn't make it more than a minute tho
-
Cool to see Rowley ripping. Part was cool, not a part I'll have on repeat. The ditches can be repetitive and hard to watch after a while. Whatever, he's doing his thing. Also, am I tripping or was Penny wearing cariuma's? Someone please correct me. 2:03 mark.

All these cynical takes are ridiculous… Geoff didn’t need to put out shit if he didn’t want to…. he could let that cherry early 2000’s money accrue without a blip. He’s fucking up these ditches for the love of it.
Maybe he gets a buck or two out of this but it’s well deserved. He’s risking his little northern English bucktoothed ass out there.

100% agreed. I’d love to see any of these critics even ride down one of these ditch spots. I live in AZ, they are massive.
-
Kudos to Geoff. I think the feedback in this thread is a reflection of how challenging it is to capture and portray massive bank skating. IRL these things are crazy, most can’t grasp how big they are- I can’t- and when that’s virtually the entire part you do start to go numb to it; your brain is comparing each bank to the last one & you lose perspective on their scale. A few more angles from behind to show steepness would have helped too.

Agreed but I think the part would be more impressive if they had edited it down to 4 minutes or so.

Freaky Friday; Bobby drops a pure ditch part, Geoff pure cellardoor.
-
I think I enjoy Geoff Rowley's footage as much as the next 30-something skater guy but this just felt like a generic and less inspired version of Fred Gall's Spiritual Healing part. Right down to a similar video length and terrain choice. Basically 97% bank/transition footage but with a much less cool spot variation (Maybe it's just down to such vain things as colour and texture?!). Hell Rowley may have even had a more interesting trick selection at 3 years Gall's senior but still, I lost interest after 2-3 minutes of really trying to focus on this part. All of the footage accumulated between the few perfect/generic California ditch spots started to get old visually pretty quickly to me even with the barrage of nose/blunt slide variations performed on them. Everything about it just felt more rushed and thrown together in comparison but this surely isn't exactly a hot SLAP take despite me never voting for Fred Gall as an easy out on any poll before. This is the best drunken edited summary I can post. Crucify me if necessary.
-
Slaps gonna slap. lol I can't wait for Koston or anyone else from that era to put out a full part with effort.
