RIP. No one made ollies look better.
-
Very sad day for skateboarding.
RIP to an absolute legend that had an immeasurable impact on the East Coast and Bay Area skate scenes. In his prime he was ollieing higher than most and gapping out further than anyone to lipslides, manuals, etc. Can't forget how quick footed he was while doing all of this either.
RIP HUF
-
Fuck 2020. I am going to ollie some shit this weekend.

-

-
fuck, i didnt take that other thread seriously, RIP huf. one of my all time favourite powerhouses

noooooooo this sucks. I dm'ed him like a man once about a graphic he had on one of the best boards I had ever ridden and he said sorry, I've had so many I don't know which one you're talking about but glad you liked the board so much.
plus he made SLAPXHUF gear
-
What a motherfucking bummer.
I just keep seeing him turning his on his face away from the camera in the intro to penal code with whiter shade of pale playing. I actually put on an old as pair of UPS ripoff HUF socks this morning to go to work in. Fuck
-
Damn shame, will always remember his EE, Zoo York and Rreal parts from the early 2000s growing up. Was never a fan of his cloting brand, but his skating was absolutely amazing.
RIP
-
Such a tragedy. Keith’s contribution to skateboarding is absolutely timeless. Power and style never get old, and his name will always be among the first in the list of skateboarders who demonstrated that the best. RIP.

I was in 8th grade math with his nephew(?), as soon as I mentioned skating he wouldn't shut up about HUF, brought in a whole bunch of signed gear the next day. What a G...

Fuck. Fuck. Gonna go do some ollies. I’ve been buying a lot of Huf gear lately. Gonna go get some more..
-
Dude taught so many of us that being a pro skateboarder was so much more than just doing the gnarliest/most tech trick. As a kid I would see his ads doing a backside flip on a bank either NYC or SF and it was just a slap in the face that it was all about the power style and form. Forever appreciated his skating from then on
-
this fucking sucks......
Go buy some huf clothes slap
RIP
-
fuck this one really hurts. RIP to one of the best to ever do it. A true NYC legend in the skate world. Fuck Cancer if thats what it was.

He was such a stand up guy. Truly a legend and just all around great person. RIP , I hope his wife and kids are doing okay. I’m sure they were all prepared for this but still. Fuck cancer. Fuck 2020 . RIP HUF thanks for everything you did for skating and reminding us all how cool Ollie’s are.
-
I saw the ronson lambert post on facebook yesterday and posted the thread that got deleted by the mods. I figured it was fake news.
This is devastating.
All of us who only knew his skating are at a loss and hurting, I cannot begin to imagine what his fam is going through.
Huf was a fukin TITAN in our world, heartfelt condolences to all close to him.

Always dug Huf's skating; proper clean style, good trick selection and big pop.
So sad to read this news today :(

-
SOB! FUCK YOU 2020!
-
Hopefully he can skate with Dylan now. RIP HUF!
-
Thank you for everything Huf. RIP to one of the Realist
-
HUF really was one of the Titans of skateboarding. Everything I loved about skateboarding stemmed from watching his video parts - powering through the streets with style and control, no matter how unbelievably crusty the spot might be.
Keith's legacy will live on in skateboarding forever, no denying it. Master of the streets. It just feels unbelievably difficult to process as someone who only knew him from afar, as a skateboarder. My condolences to his family and friends who knew the man behind the legendary skateboarder.
Rest in peace Keith Hufnagel, you are the east coast powerhouse.
-
This year just keeps blowing it. RIP.
-
Roll forever part is a classic & first I heard of Huf. Fast forward to the shoes and I fell in love. Rest in power Huf.

I was trying to find the 360 flip lipslide on the Beneficial gap to ledge. Thought it was The Reason, but maybe I am wrong?

Fuuuuuuuyuuck. Sad news. R.I.P Huf.
-
watched his Non Fiction part like crazy when I was a kid. Helped me realise skating with power, intention and style was where it was at. RIP.
-
My friends and I when we started skating had "Huf Days" where we'd just try to go fast and only do ollies, 180s, and if we were good enough Kickflips. Gonna have a Huf Day soon in his memory
-
this fucking sucks......
Go buy some huf clothes slap

Weed socks at half mast :'( :'(
Such a good cool skater and awesome to see someone with great taste able to translate that into a successful brand. Loved those quake print sneakers. Hoping someone can put together a 90s heavy retrospective. Those loose IG clips blow me away

So many iconic photos but this one at black rock is just so cool. He was the embodiment of "speak softly and carry a big stick". Who would have thought the quiet ollie guy would build one of the biggest brands? Seemed like a genuinely great guy by all accounts. RIP.

Man....he handled his cancer like Chadwick Boseman. Respect to him for keeping his illness to him and his family.
When I read about the news on here the other day, I shot this photo for fun. I know it's a shoe photo but I bought these from the HUF Sutter store and thought it'd be cool in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.

He totally made it in every capacity, RIP to a complete legend. Couldn't ever be forgotten.

Funny how every skater today skates like HUF did in 1997. What a huge, game-changing influence he had. RIP
-
Absolutely horrible, RIP to a legend.

RIP. Anyone know what the clip is from where he ollies up onto some sort of bench then does an amazing tre flip off then rides off the curb all steezy? In downtown Manhattan. I need to watch it.

Legit fucking gutted over this one. Real -Non Fiction was the first video i owned and watched religiously. One of my all time favorites.

I lost an old skate buddy from high school earlier this week.
Been a shitty week.
Huf was amazing. I always loved his style. I always wanted to skate more like he did. We will all spend our weekends trying to shifty this shit out of our systems.
-
Fuck!
-
I lost an old skate buddy from high school earlier this week.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Huf's skating was some of the first to show me that tricks aren't everything - my high school friends used to always want to skip his Skate More part, but I didn't. His technique is absolutely timeless - so many classic parts are very visibly of the time they were filmed - ledge dancing in the late 2000's for example. Aside from the gear, Keith's parts could come out tomorrow and still be respected. Maybe half cab noseslide to back tail backside bigspin was in vouge for 3 years there, but a strong ollie will always be more memorable. Not only that, but he's one of the few skaters to hold their own on both coasts without either coast's footagew seeming like (to borrow a quote from Quartersnacks) the 'summer trip to SF/NYC' vibe. He made both of those cities his.
The fact that not one person has a bad thing to say about him (even his ex-wife, if you watch his Epicly Later'd) says a lot about him.
RIP HUF.

I was just thinking about his big ass backside flip on that metal bank the other day. Keith had such a powerful style and watching him in Skate More gave me such a different vibe in that video. I started to appreciate the speed and pop he had and how it translated to SF, NYC and several different places. Dude gave me a different outlook on skateboarding instead of all the tech and rail chomping skating I was into at the time. Rest in Peace.
-
Someone post the instagram vid that strobeck posted earlier. It's from Non-Fiction. That is the epitome of street skating, hands down.
-
RIP to a legend. Gone way too soon.
I was very lucky to have skated with him on many occasions. Saying he had the best push or Ollie is just talk until you’re skating with him.
RIP
-
No pop no style. He had both in spades. RIP Huf.
-
RIP to the legend. HUF was easily one of best skateboarders to ever do it. Try and replicate that snap. You can’t. Period.

in addition to what everyone else said, his skating was so special. was he a new yorker or an SF guy? yes. always loved his approach to skating. had such a great style and the perfect trick selection. in the 9 club he talked about it - they just skated all day and whatever spots they found, they skated. not to mention HUF as a brand basically reinvigorated the movement that we are seeing now for smaller brands being able to be successful. RIP to a legend. thoughts are with his family and friends. fuck!

He was originally from New York I believe. He used to skate with Keenan before he moved to San Fran.

yea! what i meant was that he fit both of those cities so well to the point where you didnt think of him as one or the other. not a lot of people can pull that off. i think somebody else mentioned but his footage never looked like a "summer vacation to SF". his approach felt so natural wherever he was.

RIP Legend. Thoughts and prayers to his friends, family, and loved ones. This man was a true inspiration.

Wonder if this is why they pulled the pin on the shoe program. He probably wanted to do it to his best ability and couldn't see it happening because of obvious reasons. I hope he didn't cop too much grief over that.
Respect.

It was so dope how he would give kids jobs so many kids who went on to create very prominent brands and careers I would love to see a family tree of HUF influence. RIP and condolences to his family and friends and supporters

Rest in peace, Huf.

I’ve listened to uptown top rankin at least 7 times tonight

fucking heavy. fuck cancer and fuck 2020
edit: it took me a while to really start appreciating skaters like HUF - choosing power over the sheer quantity of tricks. if I were to start my life over, I would definitely want to skate like HUF
-
Great video parts aside, he showed the world that there was a life outside being a pro skater having run a successful shoe and lifestyle brand. I'm probably getting the dates mixed up but I always remember HUF shoes as being simple, functional yet elegant. His brand proved that an independent brand could thrive and laid the groundwork for bespoke board and shoe companies.
Him skating to Heart in Real to Reel will always be etched in my heart. RIP Huf, you're shredding with angels now.

The Real to Reel-era Real had a lasting impact for me as a skateboarder.
Just the name "KEITH HUFNAGEL" alone sounded so damn cool so we were magnetized towards his skating. Like for many others, anytime Crazy on You plays, first thing that comes to mind is "Huf, Real to Reel."
RIP.

Such a big loss.
On a trip to the US around 96 I bought Non Fiction on VHS. I brought it back with me to Europe and it was a bitch to convert, cause European VHS format was different. I finally managed to convert it and his part was the one I watched the most by far. Even though quality was shitty because of converting.
RIP, my thoughts go out to his family.
I really want to watch that 9 club itw but if he was already sick....gonna be a hard watch.

RIP to a Real skateboarder, I think it's a good time for us to exhalt his genius.
Not a trend follower, sticked to his great style.
He showed how to transition correctly from Pro Skateboarder to Entrepreneur

Pushed hard on Weed marketing, and made a huge profit of of it
Started a successful shoe brand which stood greatly next to the big corpo brands.

My best friend is currently fighting brain cancer, so this is hitting me especially hard. Even with all the best treatments, the prognosis is really bad. He had a gran mal seizure about a year ago and they found a massive tumor. He was told he may only have a few years. It still hasn’t sunk in for me.
Skimming through pictures, you can see the scar over his right temporal lobe from the tumor removal in lookbacklibrary’s photo from a couple years back. Listening to his 9 Club episode, it didn’t really impact speech/memory so much. That was a real blessing for his family.

RIP HUF.
Has anyone else from NYC, a relatively flat place, learned to skate SF's hills the way he did?
Pspliff was also from nyc
RIP to two gnarly New Yorkers.

even on the main page of CNN right now, RIP and all the best to his family and friends
-
I met Huf in 1995 or 96, when the REAL team came to my town for a demo.
I remember buying a board from him; everyone was skating toothpick 7.5s at the time, and the deck he sold me, the same model he was skating, seemed absolutely huge, but was probably an 8.25 (at most). I couldn't believe how much better I skated and how much more fun I had on that deck, it was a revelation. I could pop-and-catch kickflips seemingly effortlessly.
Anyway, even though I only spoke to him for a few minutes, I can still remember being impressed with how cool he was. Seemed mature beyond his years (he must have been 22 or so at the time).
Rest in power to a true legend.

Huf was a solid person. I'm with Sleazy on this one... by that I mean I am watching his parts and honoring his legacy. In an unrelated manner to sleazy, as a narcissist, of course I want to make this about myself. I remember seeing Rattatat open for Interpol in LA in the late 2000's or early 2010's (can't remember exactly) but they fucking ripped. I wanted to use the song Huf used but fortunately he used it instead of me.
The ultimate equalizer (death) of our fates should remain a constant reminder that we need to make the most of our time here with the people we are experiencing this life with. His passing is a sobering reminder that the clock is ticking for each of us and that we should soak up this experience in 2020, even if 2020 is a veritable shitshow.
Keith is gone far too soon. Don't spend too much time at the office. Don't spend too much time worrying about the numbers you see in your bank account when you log into your bank account. Rather, spend time hearing those sounds we find so therapeutic (urethane over cracks; that abnormally gratifying crunchy grind on a poorly waxed curb or coping).
Fuck cancer

One of the first videos I saw was Real to Reel & it had a huge impact on my skating, style, music, etc... Keith's part always stood out, he didn't have to do the techest tricks or the biggest rails but everything he did looked fucking good. I'll never forget that last trick ollie at the carwash gap with Lance Dawes commenting, "That's the real shit right there." Keith was the real shit, there is too much I could say about him & the way he impacted me as a skateboarder, a fan & the industry as a whole. Sending my thoughts & love to his family, goodbye brother.
