With Supra putting legends on their payroll, are they are any pros out there that deserve checks even though they barely skate anymore? (Judging from the amount of footage, photos, or ads the produce) Which pros deserve to live off their name? if any?
-
my wiener and jason lee and mark gonzoles
-
How about since this dude doesn't exist anymore, you post names of an older pro skater, the next person says whether they should be admired or retire.
Mark Gonzales- Admire
Jason Lee- retire
Darren Naverette- admire or retire?
-
Admire
Ed Templeton
-
Admire, he still runs toy
Enrique Lorenzo
-
Admire
Jeron Wilson
-
Retire, he does some really good stuff I just can't stand his style.
I know he retired (or tried to) but how about Heath?
-
retire- anyone that makes a living only skates vert ramps, not even parks but those pros out there all padded up going back and forth all day like it's 1985 still. Go buy a fucking snowboard already.
admire-gonz, cards, natas, daewon/mullen

Kill yourself. colin mckay>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>grant taylor.
-
retiring from skateboarding is stupid.

Kill yourself. colin mckay>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>grant taylor.
You speak from theory, not experience. You can't even drop in on vert. Stay out of it.
-
HAHAHA you're an idiot if you don't think i could drop in. you probably can't drop in, because you suck at skateboarding.
-

You want to skate right? How about Venice park or San Pedro? Both have vert.
-
nope.
-
COTG challenge part deux: "Nope"
-
nope.
Of course. You can only skate ledge spots.
-
nope.
-
nope.
Prove it. skate a man's spot for once instead of foot high ledges, 5 stair rails, and 3 foot minis
-
It would be admirable if you both would retire from arguing.
No but seriously you guys should get together for a weekend and document it.
Saturday: Street and plaza type ledge stairs shit only, no transition allowed (example Stoner, Wilmington)
Sunday: Bowl and transition type park shit only, no street allowed (example San Pedro, Venice)
Let's see it.
-
And yet another thread was turned into a fairly pointless gipper/cotg argument
I didn't say stop though
Let's keep going while we're at it
Chris Senn (I don't doubt this one bit, but I'm sure some people will)
-
hate to say it but retire, i don't see enough people caring
chaz ortiz
-

HAHAHA this is exactly what I'm talking about. You're a clown with no integrity. and a weenie. I
-

That's why I thought there'd be doubts. If he was still cashing in element checks maybe, but him being on Blood Wizard is so rad. Good for that company to have such a classic name on their team and I don't think he asks too much money. More of a bro thing I guess, that's why I don't think he should "retire".
Chaz Ortiz on the other hand should keep making his energy drink sponsors happy and try to get a tv show or something. Nobody cares for him except for 12-year olds who follow the dew tour and like to see kf front board kf outs. As long as I don't have to see his pictures in my thrashers, he doesn't botter me. So no retiring, but I definitley don't admire him.
Duffy ?

Duffy - Admire.
Max Schaaf?

Keith Hufnagel?

admire. Dude's kept it real since day one. (no pun intended)
Jason Adams
-
admire. Dude's kept it real since day one. (no pun intended)
Jason Adams
He is in 1031, so he is kinda retired...
Austin Stephens
-
Jason Adams admire for sure.
Tim O'Connor
-
^ Retire to both of those.
O'conner might still be amazing, but 3 tricks a video is a bit lazy
Austin Stephens, awful.
And COTG, I've skated with every other person who has talked to me about it. I just don't like you, though I knew you wouldn't be down with skating something besides a 3 inch tall ledge.
-
retire. I love his footage as much as the next guy but he's just holding back a spot from younger kids on the east coast who are killing it.
kris markovich

Admire. All industry shortcomings aside, that dude consistently puts out great parts. I'd hate to see him go.
Devine Calloway

Retire...in '99.

Yes that one, and I just remembered the ad with shoes falling all over him, when he got a pro shoe. But no skating...

To be fair, he's been rubbin elbows with dignitaries lately.

Speaking of the young guys who seem to be here to stay for a while. Here's some pretty sick footage of Ryan Sheckler and Chaz Ortiz at the Dew Tour finals this summer. It's all behind the scenes footage of them warming up and the riders meeting. Pretty cool look into what goes on when the cameras aren't rolling.

You have posted this in three threads, and I still haven't watched it. I do not not need to see Ortiz footage, or read another of your posts, pretty much, ever. Your life is in your hands, squeeze hard.

The chocolate video is being filmed right now. I'm guessing he's keeping shit on the DL. Videos taking 4 years to release is the worst thing to happen to skateboard spectatorship ever. You don't get to see guys you like, except every few years. LAME.
Ben Gilley? retire as fuck.
Omar Hassan

admire. he still kills it
todd jordan

Admire.
Screamin' Lord Salba

I can't see myself buying one of his products or watching any video parts of his, so I'll say retire.
Paul Shier.

Shier- Admire. Big guy, little board. It's funny.
Austin Stephens.

Admire, dude's done his own thing forever and isn't trying to take my skate dollar away from any legit companies. Let that boy pressure cook.
Mikey Taylor
-
Admire, he has a well refined style and trick selection. Just wish he would produce more.
Andrew Pott.
-
admire for a year or two more, he did hardflip Wallenburg.
Chet Childress?
-
^ Chet rips. I like his lines. He knows how to make skating a park look fun, even if he is relatively limited in his tricks.
Retire, even if only to stop tarnishing the golden sorry-era memories of what he was.
Mike V?
How fucking stupid are you? Sorry-era Penny? Are you joking? That was wayyyyy after his golden years. God do I hate it when people make it really obvious they just like a guy because they think they are supposed to.
-
Oh, and Chris Senn
-
Admire, Chris kills it.
Brad Staba

Retire......
Matt Mumford?

Mumford is sick!
Chet Thomas

justin eldridge

justin eldridge
admire, if he actually has a part in the chocolate video
adrian mallory

Mallory- I hear he's been riding for Creature but I haven't seen anything since his Slaughterhouse Part. So unless he comes out with a surprise killer part within the next few months, I'm going to have to say retire.

Admire, and I think some of you guys are missing the point. This is about older guys, asking whether they are clinging on to skating, or have a genuine place as a legend/ are still killing it, not whether a pro is good or not.
Matt Beach

Admire.
Mike York

Retire
Richard Angelides?

Admire, but he probably should retire. Doesn't do much of anything
Brandon Turner?

Jeron Wilson

pat duffy

retire
jamie thomas

matt field should stay in the game and kenny reed should retire? get the fuck outta here!
JT's in it for life.
matt pailes?
-
Hell yeah Kenny Reed should retire. He's been coasting off his 7 year glitch and static 2 parts for the better part of a decade. Everything he's put out since then has just been disappointing.
-
Whoever said Jeron is fucking crazy, that dudes been putting out some of his best shit over the past few years.
-

I think all pro vert skaters should be forced to start skating the mega ramp or get out the game.

dont kid yourself quims style USED to be pretty dece but for the past 7 years he looks uncomfortable on the board or something, so vertical and stiff. RETIRE, organika has amazing ams that deserve that pro check way more than him
EDIT: forgot to list someone, josh harmony, or steve berra (only one choice here)

i would obviously say admire, but ive seen a suprising ammount of hate in here on him, especially in the thread where he hit up the shallow end of a pool, so i was interested in what people would say.
dill should GTFO
Cory duffel
-
Duffel admire, because he is gnarly despite his clothes
Kristian Svitak
-
Svitak retire.
Always the same thing.
Brian Wenning?
-
you guys are being pretty loose on the admire thing.
there are probably only a handful of pros that should always have a board out, and can still be relevant in skateboarding even after they've "retired"
-
Wenning, retire.
Duncombe?
-
I actually hadn't seen that Kevin Taylor footage, and he's come out with a bunch since I said that, so I change my vote to admire.
Duncombe, haven't seen the blind video, but he seems like he's still on top of his game.
Erik Ellington

Just got an email with a picture of two new Willy Santos decks.
So, Willy Santos. (I don't think that has been said yet)
-
I'm a fan of Willy for sure, but I don't think my admiration is biased. Willy's been killing it hard since the early 90's, put out about 10 parts since then, and his part was probably the best in the new Birdhouse video. Plus he always puts out footage from their tours, most recent one was just months ago. His Syndrome park part from last year was sick too.

Running out of reasonable people to ask about... Mark Gutterman?

who cares about that guy. EE, retire. willy santos obviously still has it in him.
think anyone will retire after the real video? schaaf or huf perhaps?

You speak from theory, not experience. You can't even drop in on vert. Stay out of it.
thats fucking nonsense, you dont have to drop in on vert to know that colin mckay is the shit. plus, you cant really compare those two skaters, but mckay is obviously a master so why bother.
-
who cares about that guy. willy, retire. EE obviously still has it in him.

Huf is supposed to have a retirement part similar to Heath's.
Colin Kennedy?
Oh wait, even better: Brian Sumner
-
damn that sucks about Keith. I was hoping he'd have a shared part with someone. heath's little retirement 'part' was weak. sorry to say, but that dude should have just had mindfield be his retirement part.
brian sumner..that guy has no relevence in 2011. I haven't even heard people talk about birdhouse since their video that came out what, three or 4 years ago? shit, hang it up sumner. seems like a nice guy but he's just taking up a spot from a young gun who's killing it

you're an idiot. He was claiming everything he said on here was based on skating experience and everything anybody else said was theory, then posted footage of him skating shitty on a miniramp, and got into a conversation he knows nothing about. I agree that Colin and McKay are stupid to compare, COTG's thing was always to compare tech vert ramp dudes to cement park rippers. McKay's got legend status for sure.

Check the new tws he's killing it harder than ever.
Muska admire
Pure legend
Same with Mckay.

heaths last line made me gasp out loud, i dont care that was a sick retirement part. i think if you retire, you should get a highlight of your best tricks, and heath had the best tricks. mindfield was his last real part, but i do agree with how emerica played it off the whole time like he would have a full part, at least dont be coy about it.
what about matt rodriguez?
i have a feeling schaaf is gonna retire too, man is getting older and seems like he has other interests (bikes, cars) than going out skating all day

Matt Rodriguez? Are you kidding me? ADMIRE.
Are you talking about Heath's hillbomb line? That was just kinda cool because of the attitude. That bump is huge, the hydrant is small, and the hill is mellow. Heath rips, but that wasn't his hammers. I find the complete lack of perception of hill steepness on here funny. The hill John gets worked on in OIAM was mellow, the one heath cruises is the gnarliest thing ever. Are we looking at the hill or just thinking that a guy you like bombing a hill is cool, one you don't like is "gravity"
-
I believe he meant the 360 over the mega ramp.
-
My next board is gonna be a matt rodriguez stereo
how about tony cox? or did he kinda just slip off into obscurity/retirement from skateboarding?
