Lower Bottom in Oakland has the homegrown DIY spot with Preston’s grill. It was a fitting place to have an invite-only Thrasher and Antihero collab contest. From Royce and Ox to Red and Marty, it was all thriller no filler. –Jake Phelps
pretty heavy crew in this!

I know I'm old and lame, but I would have made it an alcohol free event. Or turn it into an event to raise money for a local free sober cab program or MADD or something.
Everything does matter.
Edited for clarity
-
Was it an alcohol free event? By the looks of the video everyone missed the memo.
-
so sick

the dudes video series was "bru-ray". you can be old and lame, dont jock on people drinking beer and celebrating for the cause. this argument doesnt have to taint this thread.
those mosaic tropies are so dam sick, i want to be there to see this next year
-
From the footage I would have had tfunk in the final. Not that it matters.
I’m sure pstone would have loved manning the grill and the long lens at that event. RIP to the big dog.
-
This is skateboarding!
Looks like an event that will go down in history. Will definitely be watching this before I go skate to get me "fired up" haha
-
I've been thinking about how thrasher has been lacking in tour videos lately, and getting extra bummed about p-stone.
-
Strangely quiet when TNT was skating......
-
From the footage I would have had tfunk in the final. Not that it matters. And GT winning
-
Raven is the cat's meow when it comes to transition skating. That Raney is good, but his style seems a little pooey.
-
i wonder how many idiots drove home drunk after that event.
great stuff in there none the less.
-

This is a big one, actually. Are the use of drugs and also problems with addiction under the responsibility of individuals, groups, or even society at large? Is keeping alcohol away from certain events going to solve issues for individuals? I doubt it. As long as there is no concept of drug education in our societies, we will have to accept that some use and others abuse, some have fun and others die.

That full-cut finals jam part was fucking amazing.
Raney deserved that win, especially given that Grant usually gets all the love.
Oski is like a loose Euro version of Raven and I back it 100%.
And lol oh Cody Lockwood. You can do all the insane Blunt combo's you want but you never had a chance. No-one made a peep for his SW FS Blunt, which was pretty fucked really.
Whoever noted the alarmingly noticeable lack of tour videos/Bru Ray edits was on the money. P-Stone left a big ass hole in the scene...
Any of you cucks make it out to this?
-
What’s up with the girl/chocolate crew showing up and not getting much love?
Was Cory Kennedy invited !?!
-
Starting watching but ill just watch on acid on Saturday, weird edit vibes
-
That was crazy. Can't hate on Raney for winning it but I thought it was a tossup between him, Grant, and Oski. Lockwood had a couple of insane bangers in there, too bad he's know better for his hat than anything else.
Raven should have been in the final.
-
Wow, so much gnarly shit. Raven's noseblunt on the hip...goddamn. Raney goes super hard too. Almost hard for me to imagine him cruising down the street and casually doing a slappy. Very gnarly.
Also noticed the silence during Tnt and especially Codie Lockwood. Did some of the gnarliest shit, but I guess he's not part of the club.
-
Cody Lockwood should lose the Coke hat
-
Not surprised it was silent for TNT in that he sucks at skating now and beats women.
-
So much sick skating.
Not that it takes away from his skating but kinda funny how 90% of lockwooks tricks were on in the same spot.
Grindline the Band is really bad.

anyone else think this was kinda weird? like having a skate industry popular guy party at lower bobs for what seemed like an antihero/thrasher production, all the while the anti-hero old guard (stranger, cardiel, t-mo, hewitt, gerwer) hardly anywhere to be seen, while the antihero new-guard GT and raney are center stage all nike'd/conversed out. really heavy nike presence overall. while TNT/andy roy have got their thing going on.
the whole thing kinda felt like havin the neighborhood over for a 4th of july bbq while mom and dad are in the middle of a divorce.
idk just seemed weird.
anti hero kinda peaked for me since destination unknown/robbie russo grew up.
-
Emmanuel Guzman was fucking charging in the initial heats!
-
These guys ruin Van Halen for me (Phelps and company). I wish this boozer aesthetic would fucking die. You didn't have this shit for most of the 90s and all of the 80s -just the skating was bad ass. I never watched any of the thrasher beer videos cause I wasn't feelin it. I thought it was wack.
-
Whatever dude....keeping up to date with outfits is a lot of work.....
-
something funny about Zach Allen vs. Oski
-
one of the best edits i've ever seen Thrasher drop. glad this will be an annual thing.
-
Every body looks frantic and stressed but Ishod is relaxing on his board here. T funk skated well too.

Must've missed the memo.
Cool trophies btw, heres the photos

Cardiel and T-mo were both definitely there, same with Andy, woman beater, Robbie, Raney, Albino, Kanfoush, GT, a bunch of flow kids....I'm not sure exactly what you are saying...are you saying that because not every single member of the team was in the edit that Antihero is falling apart? Because I just saw this huge contest held at a DIY spot built by a crew of people led by an antihero pro and filled with antihero skaters, that was won by a pro for antihero and cheered on by a bunch of guys who skate for antihero.
Fucking stoked Raney won. Dude shreds so fucking hard

yeah that's what i mean. all those guys were there but no real team vibes. not like in the old videos, at least. like anti hero used to have this anonymous, low-profile ethos. and that's what made the first beauty and the beast tour what it was. because antihero was the opposite of the high profile look that girl had. but nowadays, a beauty and the beast like thing wouldn't have the same effect because antihero is trendy in a way that it hasn't been before. it's not the company's fault. it's just where skating is at. even the antihero working guy look has been boutique-ified in skateshops and everywhere else. i'm tempted to say there's a kind of Dillian upriver/downriver dynamic at play.
love robbie russo, but he's nowhere near as relevant to antihero as he used to be. peabody and petaishiski are gone. other guys got older, and now it has a different flavor. not falling apart at all. probably the most successful the company has ever been. but it's different to me.
not asking anyone to agree with me. just wanna know if anyone is gettin the same impression that i'm getting.

That makes more sense, but I feel like you are miscategorizing Raney. Dude lived with Andy Roy and cracked his skull skating on a roadtrip. He fits perfectly within the Antihero tradition, even if the tradition is more commodified now.

yeah ur right about that.

That was sick, glad no one got hurt.
Raven, oski, Raney and GT all go so fast, makes me want to get better at skating transition this summer.
Also the caption on the photo of koston, "koston getting flared"
