How were you introduced to the SLAP Messageboards? Did you hear about it from a friend, or from seeing it mentioned in an interview? Did you just stumble upon it?
When I was first getting interested in skateboarding, I used to Google Search skateboarders in order to learn more about them. I remember that I was searching the Web for information about Andrew Reynolds, and a link for a topic about him on SLAP came up. I remember being so psyched that there was a website full of others who were just as interested in skating as I was. I lurked for a year or two, and then eventually signed up as a member.
-
i was googling for a safe place to post your dick pics, and boom slap was at the top of the list.
-
Friends/pros/mags/comments mentioning SLAP.
-
i think watson mentioning it on 'you will soon'.
i usedta fuck w/ them skate blogs heavy, BTO, YWS, PI, CBI, QS, texas ted barrow's 'in remembrance of all things whatevs' and frozen in carbonite.
then slowly but surely they all went away except snackman and pilot light [and occasionally chops and peel].
think maybe it was the situation 'covers baby' and that lead me down the dark hole of 'real confessions' [read that thread from the beginning] and then i lurked a while and here we are today.
-
interviews in magazines always asked people if they read the forums. They always made slap seem like it was more than just a bunch of skate nerds fucking around. it's not...
-
My friends stopped skating so in the search for a community I found the Bob's trick tips forum. When that got shut down like fifteen years ago I didn't have a place to talk about skating and was pretty bummed. Think I read something about the message board from the actual print SLAP, lurked for a while then made my first account a few years later. Skating with no friends or sense of community sucks ass
-
I posted on the Transworld board when I first started skating but it sucked. It was either someone over there mentioning this place or just totally random, I'm not sure. The fact that that was like 17 years ago, and now i'm right back here, is in-fucking-sane.
-
10 years ago thru the beautiful woman thread.
-
Slap used to be a content website for the magazine where we could would watch videos and shit. The forum was always there for lurking, just started posting this year.
-
back when I was a kid, Slap was a magazine.
-

-
I had no friends in college so I used to lurk online all the time. I found skateboardrumors.com and Slap in '03 or so, then sr got shut down for publicizing Danny Way's address or something lol.
-

Hahah i use to post on transworld back in the day when i was in high school. What was your username over there?
-
Knew about slap for a while. Getting a desk job combined with the excitement of the Dill styling on you thread made me sign up.
-
Watson's mention of it on You Will Soon sent me here. So if you hate my posts, take it up with him.
-
My best friend was a poster on here. You may of heard of him. His handle was BLOODONMYDICK
-
I had a year subscription to the actual magazine in high school around 97/98. Really wish I still had those plus the 4 years of thrasher I had back then too. Pretty sure Pops tossed those years ago. Years later I’d find this wonderful place. Anyone remember when slap went out of print?
-
My friends seemed really happy, so I set off in search of sadder friends. That search led me here.
-
Connections through the dark web
-
i knew DLXSF.com had a forum but i found slap after googling photos of ground down trucks and finding the grind to the axle thread
-
Subscribed to the actual mag, always lurked, Rick James asked Charlie Murphy what the five fingers said to the face, MJ getting kicked off Chocolate via a MC interview and various stylin' on yous got me here.
-
Someone showed me a photo of useless wooden toy banter from 1921 and I realized I’ve always been here
-
Used to read the mag back in the day because of my older cousin. Came across the forums when I was about 17. I turn 30 in a day so I’ve been lurking for a minute.
-
Lurked a couple times but when Guy and Koston left Girl i found myself coming on here more often and checking all the rumors and shit
-
I bought the first issue and then had a subscription for years after that
-
In a way... Slap discovered me.
-
skateperception
-
I feel like Thrasher may have mentioned it in something (negatively) and then I started lurking.
-
Came here from Reddit
-
same. people thought i was bitching too much on reddit and asked me if i came from here because i was such an asshole. figured it'd be a nice place

Oh god I don’t even know haha. I was like 13. Now that I think about it I started posting here summer 2001 because that is when I moved to a new state and had no friends haha.
-
After skateperception shut down made the switch
-
The first One in a million.
-
i must have followed a link from Skatedaily or skateboard.com or something while avoiding work at my cubicle job. had to have been at least 15 years ago
-
They mentioned it on WiSkate once, and my friend mentioned he called Austyn Stephans a lesbian then made fun of me for not knowing what Slap was. That was like... 2008ish.
-
The Emerica messageboard aka the EMB was dying down, a few of the remaining members over there mentioned posting on SLAP so I followed suit.
-
I came here as a refugee when the hip hop forum I posted on got shut down around the same time I started skating again. The fuckery here is kinda comparable. I had heard about it a few times over the years.
-
Heard about it for a while but never was into internet forums. Read the jenkem mag Slap mod interview and thought it would be fun running around in the muck with you freaks and geeks.
-
I read the magazine a lot, and hated myself, so it made sense.
-
Thrasher magazine message boards
-
Truth is I was talking shit about Scientology /arguing on instagram with Steve berra on a friendship skateboard post quite some time ago. Friendship said something to the effect of “woah guys save it for the slap message boards” so here I am, just waiting for berra.
-
I preordered the mindfield DVD, and did a Google search about the video to see if I could find any spoilers as there had already been premieres. Of course there was a slap thread, multiple pages. I lurked for 6 years before making an account.
-
I discovered it by being a loser with nothing else to do.
-
I subscribed to the magazine when i was in elementary school/middle school in the mid/late 90s. I googled it a few years ago when i started skating again and found the website and saw it never got updated and then clicked the forum and voila i found a great place to find great conversation and waste a ton of time while at work/not skating ;)
-
Through the Emerica message board oddly enough. Back in the dayo I was enamored with all things Emerica. Particularly “Baker” Emerica. I fucked with Reynold’s and especially Ellington’s first shoes hard. One day while perusing the Emerica website I noticed they had a message board. Curiosity got the best of me and I peeped it, only to find the banter on it unsavoy to say the least. Curious to find the “it” message board. I found this place. Lurk for eons swearing I would never sign up until one day and was finally compelled to sign on and well here I am...
-
I would look at Slap mag at my local adult book store (there was a guy that allowed teenagers in the magazine area). Lurked the message board for years. Finally made an account over a year ago.
Bonus, saw one my high school teachers walking out from the back area, dropped off a tv control on the counter with what looked like some cleaning chemicals, looked my way, made eye contact, walked out. Never told anyone about this. I guess it was a mutual, I won't tell if you won't tell kind of deal.
-
The older Brisbane guys told me about SLAP way back in the early 2000s (Pretty sure BNE still posts from time to time or at least looks at SLAP)... i made an account but forgot the password straight away so I just lurked.
ended up making this account in 08... haven't looked back since... much
-
Was briefly on the awful Thrasher forums and then jumped over here and made my first account since I'd heard pros mention it every so often and saw an ad for it in Thrasher. Eventually ended up making this one instead.
-
Saw issue #1 at a magazine rack near my hometown. I also discovered Transworld and Poweredge, at the same store, before I ever saw them in skate shops. Eventually, all the magazines had their own message boards. I quit TWS when they required registration and Big Brother had too many English majors.
-
Friend worked at SLAP and created the forum, signed up the first year.
-
First read the mag then came to the boards after googling illegal downloads for Fully Flared which had just come out. Slap delivered the link and haven't looked back since..
-
My psychiatrist told me about SLAP
-
I bought a very thin paper stock, not glosy, magazine from Funtastics in PA. No one had ever heard of Slap before that. But it was a great new magazine.
Edit* I first came here to the forums following a search for a free video link. Got so excited there were still likely skating and talking about all things skating. Joined instantly, and came to the reality I was too old and think skinned for internet forums. When I came back around Pretty Sweet premier time, I just looked daily. This also was because I'd gotten my first office "job" where all I had to do was look busy watching the screen. After years, I finally created a new account for the some reason to yell at Tracer.
-
slap used to a little news sidebar on the main page that was always the first to announce team changes and shit, so i used to check that all the time. somehow i moved on from there to the message board. i lurked in fear for a long time before i made an account
-
Used to write bits for the print mag in the SF heyday around 20 years ago.
-
not getting pussy. therefor, i scoured the world wide web.
-
What happened to the jailbait thread?
-
I got some copies of Slap at my local shop in the late 90ies and really liked it. Discovered this place much later (maybe 10 years ago) through youwillsoon. Even tough I hardly post anything, I lurk pretty intense. Anyways I just posted here to say thank you, Watson!
-
Someone mentioned it on stormfront.
Nah, I thought Slap was the best mag out there, so at some point I saw an ad for their website and found the forum. It seemed like a good place: small community, without much flaming, and plenty of interesting discussions. Been here since the grey boards (under different names).

During a bout of depression in 2016, I decided I was no longer going to pay attention to the news, social media, or politics. Things like reddit, facebook, talk shows, they all seemed like such bullshit to me. No matter what the subject matter, no matter who was talking, it always felt like I was watching the two most annoying people from a group of friends arguing vehemently over things they knew nothing about.
Skateboarding is something I love and never took seriously, so I didn't cut myself off from it. I ended up here by googling some skate gossip I heard (maybe Fallen had gone under? I dunno) and I found links to slap. And voila, lurked since.
I had a great time. The things I said about two annoying friends arguing is still true here, but it's skating, so I liked it. I hadn't really anticipated the things that bummed me out about mainstream media, like racism, political antagonism, Nazis, etc. becoming omnipresent here as well. Additionally, the irony that I made an account directly in response to these things is not lost on me.
-
Sluggo....
-
Someone showed me a photo of useless wooden toy banter from 1921 and I realized I’ve always been here
lol classic
-
My best friend was a poster on here. You may of heard of him. His handle was BLOODONMYDICK
OMG Bloo Don was everybody's favorite. You're lucky to have such a good person as a friend.
-
I read the magazine back in the day but never really came to the forums till I searched skating in your 30s or 40s or something like that and found the old dudes thread. Weird thing is I found out a couple posters here used to be on the Giant Robot forums where I was a regular.
-
Friend told me this was the best place to hear about skate news and gossip, signed up after a couple weeks of lurking
-
I've been here thousands of years. SLAP was built around me.
Thanks a fuckin lot Watson
-
my buddy won one in a million and was getting flamed super hard in here for his fits. i came and tried to defend him, kooked it hard, did more damage than good, got vibed by a bunch of OGs, felt sick for a few days after getting smoked on here and then came back for more. been hooked every since.
-
First mag I had was slap, Chad Bartie back tailing a white Hubba was the cover
-
I was hating on Bam at imdb when they had a forum, and somehow found my way here.
-
Always heard about it in interviews and magazines growing up. But it wasn't until I got this desk job behind a computer screen 8 hrs a day that I needed something skate-related to pass these hours of boredom.
Have gotten caught twice now with the slap window open while on a call, so now I must be more careful, and the rate at which I post now is reduced greatly.

Made an account on skateboard city in 09, bumped a thread from 04, got shit on by some dude I was subscribed to on youtube. That eventually died, but I didn't migrate until 2013. I feel like I was always aware via mentions in mags, but I remember watching the 2010 OIAM the summer after. Somebody bitching about how we don't need anymore "PROS WHO GOT ARRESTED" threads clued me in that there was some juicy shit on here. Also seeing a bald Haslam on a brand called deca really made me understand how little I knew. Heavy lurking ever since, I also remember getting annoyed with all the Josh Stewart threads and learning about static. Now 2 and 5 are some of my favorites and i go back to search for all those threads.
-
SLAP found me motherfuckers just kidding I looked up “skateboard rumors” on google while ignoring my girlfriend at the time
-
maybe as early as 2000 or 2001 i found this place just by checking all the skate mags websites. the dlx forums were there but i think that was really it at the time and the dlx site was barely trafficked. im not sure what made this place different at the time. i think it was just there werent a lot of options back then and the mods were active enough to keep it out of chaos.
-
I think I clicked on a link Quartersnacks posted. My first SLAP experiences were lurking all day in a windowless unfinished basement room all day while on heroin in November, 2012. Very strange. (I'm now 2.5 years clean and sober from everything).

wanna get high?
jk, keep the faith and all that. i don't have that long but it's prolly not too far from 2 yrs for me.
i already answered YWS but i had the magazines before anything. first one w/ carroll and 2nd one w/ chris pastras interview. he called cheers 'a conservative white fuckup because my black peoiple aren't represented.'
militant dune!
-
I don't remember anything other than it was an early issue and it had the Del the Funky Homosapien interview where it's a big, close up picture of him lighting a joint... I subscribed for years, always thought it was so much cooler than Thrasher. I would check the website years later, maybe a few times a month for news and clips, but didn't mess with the forum.
-
I'm trying to undiscover slap at this point. But I'm addicted.
-
Some guys at a shop 10-15 years ago were talking about the Danny Way incident. I didn’t know what the fuck they were talking about, so I looked it up online. After looking through some Google searches, I found this place and wasn’t disappointed..
-
There was an article on Jenkem with an illustration with an old pro skater in his room with boxes of unsold goods, looking at his computer opened on a slap thread about him talking shit about him/his product
-
got a free SLAP mag when i got my first complete
from a real local skatehop. but there wasn't really
internet back then in my area. i looked it up since
it kept being mentioned by Watson on YWS later.
-
Oh cool one of comments got made into a thread! Jake Donnelly’s one in a million 2 weeks in sf vid on YouTube is how I found the message board. I had known about slap magazine from other magazines and interviews discussing it but had never seen one in the wild.
-
It was a combination of a few different things - OIAM, the Jason Dill Slap Pals questions, and You Will Soon. Mainly it was the Slap Pals questions that are unfortunately defunct. Wish Jake Johnson completed his.
-
I had no friends in college so I used to lurk online all the time. I found skateboardrumors.com and Slap in '03 or so, then sr got shut down for publicizing Danny Way's address or something lol.
I migrated over from skateboardrumors.com too, that site was fucking juicy before that D-Way shit went down
