BUMMED ON BUMMER HIGH
« on: September 01, 2009, 02:10:27 PM »
Like, are you serious ETHAN?  I went to a skate shop the other day and instead of their shop decks, they had a bunch of shitty looking bummer high decks.  And they were CHEAP!  Seriously skateboard decks should not be selling for $25!  It felt cheap and looked cheap.  They looked like blanks.  I think it was a good try, but if it hasn't gone out of business yet, Ethan should brain storm for a minute and reintroduce his brand with QUALITY PRODUCTS!  Sorry, I'm a true fan, but when my favorite pro's blow it so hard, I just have to comment.

one-upping is rad.  so is beaming.  both so unquestionably identify the kooks...saves a lot of wasted time/small talk.  you instantly know who to avoid.

You might be an alright dude, but you're way wrong if you buy skateboards online.  Support your local skate shop bro!

used to buy nothing but powell blanks because they were cheaper until i realized they chipped easier than any other board.  are bummer high boards worse when it comes to this?  never skated one...

I too fell victim to the cheaper blanks at one point. Had the same findings as you. I found the one bummer-high deck that I had to be very good and responsive for the first day or two. I break boards less than regularly and I broke the tail off on a pop-shuv down this little warm-up gap out front of my house. I was bummed, then I got high.

out of the four i've skated, i only remember one chipping on the nose a little bit. those decks are supposed to be like 'pricepoint' decks or something anyway. they're not too shabby. they've got this odd shape with a narrow nose/tail and shallow but other shapes are rounded well with more concave than the others.

the one i skated was quality man...lasted a good amount of time....that is so cheap because it's a pricepoint; it's made differently and graphics are simple

i've been riding a bummer high for the past month and its actually really good.  maybe you should actually TRY ONE before going off on some internet tirade about how bad they suck.  but i guess they could still charge regular price for their boards like all the companies that do shitty china wood.  fuck them for trying to pass the savings on to us.

and the dude above me is right.  they just bought prime woodshop.  so i think they are doing ok financially, and we'll probably be seeing them around in one form or another for a little while.

I think this thread is poorly titled. I think you should have called it "WAH WAH IM A BABY AND I HAVE SOILED MY SELF" or some variation thereof.

everybody down here seems to like them, why the fuck should people be paying $50 a board that only cast $5-7 to manufacture. Do dudes that can barely put out one video part every 3 years deserve all the money they are making off of skateboarders.

True.... Bummer High - owned by GoodWood. GW's sell to the shop anywhere from $12 to $16. they get boards from China at the $5-$7 range and use them for shop decks, GW and Black Out, and yes Bummer High gets slipped in the mix. They do however have a few different qualities of shitty china wood ranging from, really shitty on up to not sooo shitty. The not sooo shitty ones are generally used for Bummer High but sometimes the really shitty ones get thrown in when they are out of not sooo shitty decks. I've road their boards before and I can say I've had a couple last pretty good for a couple days and but for the most part they were pretty shitty. The Owner of GW (not Ethan) just bought out the sinking ship that is Prime mfg. so there should be some, somewhat better boards on the market soon.

How about the quality being shittier?
How about that your local shop has to sell twice as many boards as before? You don't like their couch, don't you? I like it. I'd like to keep that couch around.

bottom line: they're pricepoint decks. they are going to be cheap in both respects.

for the record, there are boards made in china that are pretty good IF you find the 1% of manufacturers that know what the fuck they're doing. most chinese pricepoint shit is made with either all chinese/russian maple, or chinese/russian maple with canadian maple top and bottom veneers. like i said, there are a few that make it 100% canadian maple. all in all it's easier and wiser to just get them made in north america.
